Thanks Andrea! At least that is something to go on. I have that marriage for an Alexander Miller to a Beata Turner, but not until 1762, so maybe they just assumed by the will that Beata was mother to the Elizabeth b. 1743 who m. Robinson? Not clear til I get more details, but without sources the bio is suspect unless I can prove otherwise. Might be a case of collapsing generations together, confusing father and son of the same name. And some evidence I have suggests there was another REV. Alexander Miller around Princeton in the same time frame. He actually might be the better candidate for family connections in this case.
Tavern licenses were most often granted to those who were unable to support themselves any longer for reasons of health...but preference given to vets. Miller was innkeeper around what became 7 Stars for about decade in the 1740s, but had been constable in 1736. Just holding that office suggests a mature man, not a kid to me.
With a name like Alexander, I was leaning towards Presbyterians despite the marriages I'd seen in the Swedish church, since they served all comers. Possible Delaware connections surprise me not at all, after all, only a mile away, New Castle adjoins Salem county for all intents and purposes. I've been looking that direction too...just not convinced yet we aren't talking several different individuals.
Just at random, looking for ANY and ALL Alexander Millers within range, I found a couple more
In Philly marriages
Alex. Miller and Ann Scott 1759
Alex. Miller and Sarah Daliton 1739
Appreciate the sighting, will give me a direction to follow up, see what sticks.
Thanks again,
Val
