Received the marriage certificate but it didn't have any new information. I called the office of vital statistics and they said they didn't have the book copy. They put me in touch with someone else to see if they can locate it. Waiting for reply.

As far as I know they only had one daugther, Eleanor Evelyn Lutzhoft, born February 27th 1913 in Paterson - the one that was placed in fostercare back in Denmark. But I'm not 100 % sure....
I'm wondering if the reason why there isn't any death notice for him is that the wife was already dead the year before and he was only survived by the infant daughter - with all his and the wifes family living in Denmark. That might explain it - when she died he was still living.

Theodore did not appear in the Morning Call Obit Index, most likely an notice was ever published. Do you know if there were children of his living in Paterson when they died, it may help find where they are buried, most likely Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson or Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa.

Thank you so much for your reply; I actually also found the very same document after posting my first message in here. And it's truly a very interesting document with the description of Theodor Christian Lutzhoft and everything - I gave the link to his greatgrandson afterwards, and it was so amazing for him to see it.
I'm sad to hear that the church burned down in 1967....let's hope they had the church records somewhere else. I also thank for the links to the church archive. Maybe they have something on the deaths of Theodor Christian and Ellen Josephine.

Thanks once more...Laila in Denmark

Laila,
Lailia,
Maybe some of this information will be some help in your research.

Theodoe Christian Lutzhoff, DECLARATION of Intention Papers to become a USA citizen in the Court of Passaic Co.,NJ states the following:

Intention Papers #5822, filed: November 5, 1913
Theodor Christian Luthoff, age 29
Occupation: Fireman
Color: White, Complexion: Fair, Height: 6 feet, Weight: 200 pounds, Hair: Brown, Eyes: Blue.
Born: Lyngby, Denmark, March 13, 1884.
Now resides at: 450 10th Ave., Paterson.
Emigrated from: Copenhagen, Denmark on the vessel Hellig Olav, last foreign residence was Lyngby, Denmark. Arrived: Port of New York, July 9, 1912.

Below is a short history of Calvary Methodist Church of Paterson. I do not know what happened to the church records or if they survived the church fire in 1967. You may want to contact the Methodist Church Archives. They do have a research/genealogy request link on their wesite.

gcah@gcah.org
973-408-3189

Methodist Church, General Commission on Archives & History
36 Madison Ave., POBox 127
Madison, NJ 07940

Website: http://www.gcah.org/site/c.ghKJI0PHIoE/b.3590369/k.F932/Cont...

Calvary Methodist Church - Founded 1884

Calvary Methodist Church began at a grove meeting held on Rip Van Winkle Avenue (now Belmont Avenue) by several members of the Grace Methodist Church. A Sunday School was organized with thirty students in August 1884. the group met in a private home on Rip Van Winkle Avenue. J. L. Farrell was the Superintendent; the teachers were Mrs. William Stiurr, H. B. Crampton, John Goble, and Samuel Smith. the Sunday School was a success and continued to grow. In 1887, a hall was rented at 73 Belmont Avenue opposite North Sixth Street. Later the hall was purchased for $1,200. In 1899, the building was enlarged and in the same year the mission was incorporated
as the Calvary Methodist episcopal Church. A deed to the property was presented by the trustees of Grace Church to the newly formed church. the first trustees of Calvary were Stephen Barnes, H. B. Crampton, John Goble, W. A. Hall, W. H. Mason, John Mitchell, and D. Montania. the church became part of a circuit, with Haledon and West Paterson. Rev. J. H. Robertson was the first pastor. As the congregation continued to grow, it became evident that larger quarters were needed. A building site on North Seventh Street was purchased. It was one of the highest points in Paterson with a clear view of the Preakness Mountains on the north and the business section of Paterson on the south. In 1895, a church was constructed at 9-15 North Seventh Street and dedicated by Rev. John krantz, D.D., the presiding elder, assisted by the pastor, Rev. Jackson on November 3, 1895. Only $1,500 debt was on the property at the time of the dedication. In 1905, a new parsonage was built. During the last year of the pastorate of Rev. William S. Newsom, electricity was installed in the
church and parsonage. An organ donated by brothers Seeley and James E. DeRemer was installed in the church in the Autumn of 1921. In succeeding years, various improvements were made, including the installation of the pulpit and chancel rail from the historic Market Street Church.
Rev. William A. Ihde became pastor in 1929 and died during his service to the church. Mrs. Ihde assumed the responsibility of preaching until 1933 when Rev. Leroy e. Wright was named pastor. On February 24, 1952, Calvary
Church merged with the Hamilton Avenue Church. Rev. Frederick L. Long assumed the pastorate of both churches in 1950. After the merger, the Hamilton Avenue Church was sold and the funds derived from the sale
were earmarked for improvements to Calvary. As was the fate of so many Paterson churches, the church was destroyed by fire on January 2, 1967. After the fire, the congregation worshipped with Christ Church, which was located several blocks away on North First Street. Christ Church suspended services as of October 1, 1968 and asked to be dissolved. Calvary Church was discontinued in 1974.
I'm doing some research for a friend, and I hope you can help me. His maternal grandmother Eleanor Evelyn Lützhoft was born February 27th 1913 in Paterson, New Jersey, and according to the information when she's confirmed in 1927 in Denmark, she was baptized at home January 12th 1915, her parents belonging to Calvary Methodist Church in Paterson.
Her parents should be Theodor Christian Lutzhoft and Ellen Josephina....they die in 1915 and 1916, according to the information I have. I believe him to be Danish, and possibly born on March 13th 1884.
I hope somebody can help me with confirming the birth/baptism of Eleanor Evelyn Lutzhoft, and the deaths of her parents.

Many regards, Laila in Denmark....

Okay - got it. That marriage is found on Family Search. Alfred's residence is given as Asheville, North Carolina. Juanita's residence is given as Buncombe County, North Carolina.

!

This suggests Alfred didn't go to North Carolina just for the wedding (which seemed a possibility). Rather, the two likely met in North Carolina, as both were living there when they married.

LINK:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-14708-28775-35?cc...

LINK:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VXTQ-L3K

Alfred was a weaver in a silk mill.

But hey - I live to serve.

Wrickett did you find a jpg of the original marriage certificate for Alfred and Juanita somewhere? Or were you looking at a transcription?

Lyfailla, presuming wrickett quoted a transcription, a really good move for you would be to order that marriage certificate for Alfred and Juanita and see if his parents' names are included on it.

Are you sure Katherine was born in 1937?

I have looked in the 1940 Census and can't find a record of any of them. Juanita Flonnie Lunsford Schultz was born 2/25/13 in Buncombe County, NC. On my mother's (Katherine) her last name is spelled Shultz however she says that is the wrong spelling. I don't know where they were married but I have tried searching and can't find anything. Everywhere I look I come to a dead end. She has very little information about Alfred. Thanks for your help.

Presumably the family should be in the 1940 census (indexed and free to search, courtesy of Ancestry.com). Another free website is Family Search.

Can you add a date of birth for Alfred Schultz and/or Juanita? Were Alfred and Juanita definitely married? In general, can you add more information?

I started to add various "candidates" for your Alfred - but that's confusing, because there are too many (but none in Passaic County, New Jersey).

If you can locate "your" Katherine in the 1940 census and post that, we'd have a place to start.

Katherine had no contact since around 1944 with him. Would like to know if he had other children. Who were his parents? When he died and where buried?

Thank-you for your time and effort! We did not have the 1910 census, which shows that Jane Richardson had died by that year. We know that some of her children (including my grandfather) went to the orphanage there, which is why it has been so hard tracing down his parents and so on. Yes, that is the correct family that arrived in 1894, though Jane had come the year earlier. Appreciate your looking very much, thanks again!

K.

Looking for any info on a John Reid, born abt 1872 in Glasgow, Scotland and died abt 1908 in Paterson, NJ. He was probably a silk mill worker. His wife was Jane Richardson (1872 Oldham, England) and they had four children, James, William, Hannah and Sarah. Children were sent to orphanage when parents died young. I am trying to find out the names of John's parents in Scotland and anything at all about him or his family.

I'm not related but have you checked the Passaic Cty. naturalization database? http://records.passaiccountynj.org/
There is a common pleas petition for 1895 that could be him. It doesn't give you the info you are seeking but it tells when he came to America if it is the right one.

McKenna McBride McMenamy Blandford Krattiger Boyle

Since my last post on this board a few years ago, I have a lot more information to go on. I would like to find any descendants of 3 sisters with the maiden name of McKenna.

Rose, Catherine and Mary-ann were the children of James McKenna and Catherine McKenna.

Rose emigrated to NJ in the late 1800s and married James McBride. they had a son Andrew in 1908. James McBride died sometime between 1911 and 1915. Andrew married Anna Lena Krattiger sometime after the 1940 census. Not sure if they had any children.

Mary-ann emigrated to Paterson, NJ in 1915. Sometime after the end of WWI and before the 1920 census she married Benjamin William Blandford. He was a printer and Andrew followed in this profession. I don’t believe Mary ann and Benjamin had any children as she was aged over 40 when she married.

In 1920 Peter and Catherine McMenamy emigrated to Paterson NJ with 3 of their children Mary Rose (or Rosemary) b. 1911, Bridget (or Winifred) b. 1912, Peter James b. 1915. In the 1940 census Rosemary is with her parents on census night with the married surname of BOYLE.

Hopeful of finding any descendants of these families.
