The 1880 census (Passaic County, NJ) shows a Louisa Rhinesmith, age 14, relationship listed as adopted , living with Charles Morris, his wife Sarah, and their 2 sons, John A and Adna. Adna was my maternal grandfather. There is also a 31 y.o. servant named Henry Newton. My grandfather never spoke of an adopted sister and no one in the family has ever heard anything about Louisa.
