I am seeking information concerning the above family of Ann Hopla ( nee GRIFFITHS ) and George Hopla, originally from Merthyr Tydfil, were they married in 1847.

They appear to have emigrated to America in the late 1860's, and I am told some of the family died in Keyport, Monmouth County, New Jersey.

It is information (any) that I am seeking [ if anyone can help me :-) ]

OK, the Asbury Park Press appears to have published her obituary or at least a death notice on 21 Jul 2003. Here is what came up in their archive search using just Svea White:
Obituaries
Asbury Park Press - Asbury Park, N.J.
Date: Jul 21, 2003
Start Page: 8
Section: A
Text Word Count: 5253

You would need to go to their archives website by copying and pasting this link into your browser:
http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/app/results.html?st=basic&Qr...

Then for $3.95 you can purchase a copy of the entire obituary listing for that date (the text word count being 5253). Hopefully, this link will work for you. And there were two other obits (2000 and 2004) that came up using her name. Perhaps they also might be worth purchasing in case those mention her as a surviving relative. You can purchase all 3 for $9.95 or choose from several other purchase package options, if it suits your needs. They send you the full text online right away usually.

Your last option would be to contact the Asbury Park Library - online since it sounds like you're not local. Sure you could find with a google search. Good luck.

I don't think there are any connections there I'm afraid, but thanks anyway.

Svea is an unusual female name for the US, but not uncommon here in Sweden. Especially not 100 years ago. :)

Elizabeth (Allen) Shinn of Upper Freehold

I am trying to identify the Elizabeth Allen who married James Shinn (1782-1851) in 1809. I have found absolutely no information on her except a marriage record - it provides no information beyond the date and the name of the Justice of the Peace. Tracking down the JP in other records shows that he performed marriages in Upper Freehold which, since it was the home of James Shinn (son of James Nicholas Shinn and Lavina Haines) suggests that Elizabeth is likely also from Upper Freehold. Presumably she would have been born between 1780 and 1790 to make her between 19 and 29 on her marriage date.

James and Elizabeth had one son, Charles Allen Shinn, b. 4 May 1810 and d.1834. Charles is not a family name on the Shinn side so perhaps there was a Charles Allen after whom he was named.

James remarried to Mary Miller (1795-1866) of Gloucester Co. in February 1817, and Mary gave birth to her first child at nearly that same date, suggesting that Elizabeth had died before mid-1816. I've located no death record and no gravesite for Elizabeth.

Although the father of James had been a Quaker (disowned on his second marriage,) I've found no evidence that James was Quaker at the time (the Hinshaw records do not mention him) and Mary Miller was disowned for marriage outside the faith on her marriage to him in 1817. The Shinn family lived in New Egypt in later years.

Any information or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Hi,
I rarely look at the message Boards and for some reason I did so today. In your message here you mentioned me, in that I had several errors in my tree. I certainly do not want that. Your name does sound familar, I hope we went through all the corrections you had. I ust don't like to see a posting referencing me with errors, if I've either fixed them, or not had the chance to do so.
In this case I think we did communicate and I have fixed the errors.
Feel free to contact me again if you find any others issues or new data.
It is really all too easy when we go so far back in time without a personal reference to make errors.
WE worked on the Debow tree to fix errors but I'm not aware of errors in the Eiermann line, if you know of any in my tree please contact me.

I am trying to discover the death date and possibly burial location, maybe even obituary for Lois Ryan, wife of Joseph L Ryan (maiden name Miller). She was born in Pennsylvania in 1886 and the last time that she appears in the census is 1930, in Shrewsbury, where she is living with her husband (an electrician) and son Charles.

I believe that she must have died between 1930 and 1935 because her husband is in the 1940 census, a widower, living in Kansas where he was born. The record states that he was living in the same house in 1935, and I doubt that Lois would have moved to Kansas away from her only son.

Is there an archive of obituaries that covers this period and location? Or an archive of newspapers at a library that I could consult? Cemetery inventories? I've looked online and haven't found a burial record. Church records? She would most likely have attended a Methodist church.

Since I don't have the exact date and location of her death, the state is of no help.

Any advice will be very much appreciated!
