I also subscribe to GB.com and it is well worth it, since you know that there is info in their archives. There's a lot of other info available, too, such as the SSDI. Not too expensive, but I would recommend the annual rate--much more reasonable! Let me know if I can help look up records in Trenton, NJ, since all the state records are there. I'm close and go there often. --Judi

What is your g-g-grandmother's name? The asylums will often list the names of their "inmates" in the census. There was a large asylum in Trenton c. 1920. Will get you info on that. Also, when inmates pass away in an asylum, their home address is sometimes given, if they still maintain a legal address outside the asylum. I just did some research on this very matter a few years ago, so I will dig into my files. Do you have her obit? Which paper was it in? --Judi

My gr-gr-grandmother's name was Susan Bateman Case; Bateman was her maiden name. Since posting this, I have found an obituary that says she died at home in Flemington on Maple Avenue. But there is a persistent rumor among family members that she was institutionalized so I'm wondering if she spent time in an institution and was later released. She appears in all censuses at home.

Do you have your parent’s birth certificate and your father’s birth certificate? You should be able to get them from the New Jersey Department of Health but you will need dates and locations.

Also the Social Security Death Index has these two entries.

Name: George Epley
SSN:	136-20-6092
Last Residence:	New Jersey
Born:	4 Aug 1900
Died:	Apr 1963

Name:	George Epley
SSN:	150-28-8871
Born:	9 Jul 1938
Died:	Apr 1972

You can order the social security applications for both of them which will have the names of the parents. They do charge $27 for them.

Curt

The only stories I have are the little memories from my Dad's childhood and my Dad's mom's stories. She is getting kind of old and is easily forgetting things. I actually have her going to the Epley family grave area. I remember seeing it once and I know it had the Freemason Symbol on it. But once again I do not know much. Thanks for the leads though.

The 1940 census for Ewing, New Jersey has a George M. Epley, born about 1939, son of George and Mari Epley. This census also state all three were born in New Jersey.

The 1930 census for Ewing shows George N. Epley and Mari R. Epley who married about 1927. George was born about 1901 in North Caroline and Mari about 1899 in Pennsylvania. If they married in New Jersey the State Archives in Trenton should have the marriage certificate on microfilm.

I found this birth record in North Carolina.

George Nelson Epley born 4 August 1901, father William Epley, mother Fatima Jamison.

Does this sound like your family?

Curt

My father's side is a complete mystery. My father's name is George Nelson Epley III, his father was JR, and his Grandfather was George Nelson Epley. My Uncle's name was Scott P. Epley. I never met my grandfather. He died I believe around 35 from alcoholism. The Epley family that I know of consists only of my Dad, Uncle (who passed in 2001), my two sisters, and myself. I am not sure how to get any more information. I have put in all the information I know on my Family Tree and have not received and further hints.

I am looking for "insane asylums" in the Trenton area in 1920-1921. Supposedly my great-great-grandmother died in one. She appears in the 1920 census in her own home in Flemington, and died in 1921, so she was not in one for very long. I know of Trenton Hospital - any place else that was in existence at that time? I'm also considering places in PA if anyone has any information about hospitals there.

There are several newspaper articles about Willliam in the Trenton Evening Times. I have a subscription to GenealogyBank.com and a quick search found the marriage announcement for Miss Eva May Watkin and William Logan Cameron in 1916, a birth announcement for son John Watkin Cameron in 1917, an article about William returning to Scotland in 1924 when his mother became critically ill, a few articles about his involvement with soccer, Eva submitted many recipes to the paper, William's obituary ....

This is a paid subscription but I believe there is a free trial period that you could get all of these articles and more relatively quickly. Are these things you are interested in or do you already have this information?

Good Luck!

I have already located the family in the 1910, 1930 & 1940 US census living in Mercer Co, NJ.

I also have found William's passport application and a few times in travel to England.
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have seen that 1900 Census record. That is my last "sighting" of Albert S Cubberly, Jr. In 1921, the family and the lawyers searched for him in order to settle the estate of a deceased uncle. Someone heard that he had headed west to California but they never found him and assumed that he had died.
Again, thanks for taking the time to search and reply.

Here are Hans and his family before 1930. Hans' WWI draft registration card stated that he was deaf and mute. He is not in the 1910 census with the rest of his family, but then returned by 1917 (there is a school for the deaf in Trenton, so perhaps Hans is there in 1910--update...found him, he is there, but listed as Peter; people often switched between using their first and middle names). WWII draft registration confirms he was born in Hoboken on 3 May 1896.

1900 United States Federal Census
Name:	Carsen P Hanson
Age:	46
Birth Date:	Nov 1853
Birthplace:	Germany
Home in 1900:	Hoboken Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Male
Immigration Year:	1874
Relation to Head of House:	Head
Marital Status:	Married
Spouse's Name:	Anna Hanson
Marriage Year:	1879
Years Married:	21
Father's Birthplace:	Germany
Mother's Birthplace:	Germany

Name:	Anna Hanson
Age:	42
Birth Date:	Dec 1857
Birthplace:	Germany
Home in 1900:	Hoboken Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Female
Immigration Year:	1883
Relation to Head of House:	Wife
Marital Status:	Married
Spouse's Name:	Carsen P Hanson
Marriage Year:	1879
Years Married:	21
Father's Birthplace:	Germany
Mother's Birthplace:	Germany
Mother: number of living children:	3
Mother: How many children:	4

Name:	Adolph Hanson
Age:	10
Birth Date:	Dec 1889
Birthplace:	New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Male
Relation to Head of House:	Son

Name:	Anna Hanson
Age:	8
Birth Date:	Jan 1892
Birthplace:	New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Female
Relation to Head of House:	Daughter

Name:	Hans Hanson
Age:	4
Birth Date:	May 1896
Birthplace:	New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Male
Relation to Head of House:	Son
------------------------------------------------
1910 United States Federal Census
Name:	C Peter Hansen
Age in 1910:	56
Birth Year:	1854
Birthplace:	Germany
Home in 1910:	Hoboken Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Male
Immigration Year:	1873
Relation to Head of House:	Head
Marital Status:	Married
Spouse's Name:	Anna Hansen
Father's Birthplace:	Germany
Mother's Birthplace:	Germany

Name:	Anna Hansen
Age in 1910:	52 [56]
Birth Year:	abt 1854 [1858]
Birthplace:	Germany
Home in 1910:	Hoboken Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Female
Immigration Year:	1883
Relation to Head of House:	Wife
Marital Status:	Married
Spouse's Name:	C Peter Hansen
Father's Birthplace:	Germany
Mother's Birthplace:	Germany

Name:	Adolph Hansen
Age in 1910:	20
Birth Year:	1890
Birthplace:	New Jersey
Home in 1910:	Hoboken Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Male
Relation to Head of House:	Son
Marital Status:	Single

Name:	Anna Hansen
Age in 1910:	18
Birth Year:	1892
Birthplace:	New Jersey
Home in 1910:	Hoboken Ward 2, Hudson, New Jersey
Race:	White
Gender:	Female
Relation to Head of House:	Daughter
Marital Status:	Single
-----------------------------------------------------
1910 United States Federal Census
Name:	Peter Hanson
[Peter Harson]
Age in 1910:	14
Birth Year:	1896
Birthplace:	New Jersey
Home in 1910:	Trenton Ward 10, Mercer, New Jersey/New Jersey State School for the Deaf
Race:	White
Gender:	Male
Relation to Head of House:	Scholar
Marital Status:	Single
Father's Birthplace:	Germany
Mother's Birthplace:	Germany
-----------------------------------------------------
U.S., World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
Name:	Hans P Hansen
City:	Hoboken
County:	Hudson
State:	New Jersey
Birthplace:	Hoboken, New Jersey
Birth Date:	3 May 1896
Race:	Caucasian (White)
Do you claim exemption: Deaf and mute
----------------------------------------------------
So far, I was only able to find Adolph in 1920. According to the 1930 census, Hans and May wed c1920. Hans is working as a teacher at the deaf school.

WWII draft registration has him and May in Trenton until at least 1942.

Unless you can find obits for Hans and May, it may be difficult to obtain her maiden name unless you get a copy of their marriage record from the state archives. It will show their place and date of marriage, plus her parents' names.

I live in NJ--I'll call the cemetery and see what I can find out.

Looking for information or connections for Joseph Dye, Dey or Day, who lived in the Trenton area in 1818. I suspect he is Joseph Dye Jr., son of Joseph Dye Sr. & Phoebe Hance, born some time before 1795.

I do research on Officers of the State Prison system in NJ from years past. Primarily I search out those who died in the line of duty and see that they are included on State and National Memorials.

An Assistant State Prison Keeper, Joseph Dye was stabbed and seriously wounded in an escape attempt at New Jersey State Prison in 1818. I suspect that he may have succumbed to those wounds, but there are no good records that I have found thus far that will positively identify him and a date of death.

I think one of your dates is incorrect--if he was born sometime before 1895, then he had to be living in Trenton in 1918, not 1818. If he was in Trenton in 1818, then he was born sometime before 1795. Which is correct?

They have pencils and paper there if you need them. You can bring your own notepad and pencil, but no pens or markers are allowed.

If you bring any items that are not allowed in, like your purse, they will give you a key to a locker so you can store your items while you do research.

Records you print out and keep will cost you .25 a page. Unlike other places that I've been, you don't need to deposit the money in order for the copy to print. It's on the honor system, but copies that don't print out correctly can just be thrown away and don't cost you anything.
I'm wondering if anyone would be nice enough to look for someone for me if they go to Greenwood Cemetery in Trenton anytime soon. I need to know if there's a couple buried there: Hans Peter Hansen & Mae/May Hansen and if so, what their dates are. I'm researching this couple and I don't know when they died nor where they're buried. I can't contact the cemetery via the website because the "contact us" links don't work and I'm not in NJ to call them. So I'm rather stuck. Wondering if anyone would be kind enough to check with Greenwood and maybe Colonial Memorial Park. Any help will be appreciated.

Hans Peter & Mae Hansen/Hanson - Died Mercer Co.

I'm looking for information on this couple. I can only find them in the Trenton census records for 1930 & 1940. I was told they died in Mercer Co. They were both born about 1896/1897 in NJ. I need burial info & Mae's last name. Any info other than the census records will help greatly.

Jenn

You can bring pencils, paper, computers, cameras into the archives. You can make copies of anything you find on microfilm, books, or other media. What they don’t allow is tote bags, briefcases, or other containers that can be used to hide things. There are various methods for searching individual collections. There are indexes for some. Some are in alphabetical order. The staff is very helpful and will make it easy to get started.

Curt
When you go and search at the archives in Trenton how can you record any information if you're not allowed to bring in a pen or notebook? Are they easy to search...like is everything in alphabetical order?

Dominick's parents were Simon Krizsak b 1830 and Maria Vavrcsak b 1840. This is according to the 1869 census. Their children were Jakub b. 1858, Dominick b. 1863, Maria b 1866 and Rozalia b. 1868. They lived in Zdiar house n. 89 with Simon's mother Sofia b. 1801. Their son Simon b 1879 was of course born after the 1869 census. I have pictures and other information about Simon b 1879 and his family in Detroit. My e-mail is ljg5453@comcast.net. Send me your e-mail and I will send you much more, including the pictures I have.

The funeral home is still in business and active. The owner/operator is Betty Davis, who is a DAR member so is interested in family histories. Call the funeral home and ask for her.

I found this post asking about Simon Kriszak.

My Grandfather was Simon Krisak, born in Zdiar 28 Oct, 1879. He immigrated in 1904 to Bitumen PA and eventually settled in Detroit.

To my knowledge Simon had a brother Karol and a sister, name unknown, both lived in Zdiar their entire life.

I am not aware of a Dominick. Do you have names for Dominck's parents? Simon's parents were Simon Krisak and Maria Vavocsak.

I still have family in Zdiar that spell the surname as Krissak.

I'm not sure if there is a relation here or not
