I am planning my first trip to the Easton Library to copy Obits which they have indexed. Would appreciate information regarding accessing the Library and how the obits are accessed, can I use my laptop (any restrictions), etc. I am planning to spend two days there pulling all the Sutton obits. I have made a list from their index page. Would appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Thanks.

I was up there last year. If I remember correctly, it is just newspapers on microfilm. You'll have to search through the papers to find the obit, so be sure to bring the page number that is provided on the index.

Be sure to check both obits if the person's name is listed twice, but a couple of days apart. Sometimes it is just the little blurb that says "Died-Sutton, at ___, age 43" or something but the other may have more info.

I don't think you can save the info to a memory stick or anything. You have to print them out or write them down. To print, you need to get a card that you put credit on using a machine, so be sure to bring some cash...I forget how much a copy is...maybe 15 or 25 cents.

Hope this helps.

Are all your Suttons from Hunterdon County area? I have ones that are from Sussex County.

My wc.rootsweb database is jeff2cox

Jeff,

Thanks for the info on the library. I plan to spend 3 full days there so hopefully I get through the 300 obits I have listed as available. Did you have any problem in getting time on the microfilm readers? Is there a limit on the amount of time you can use them or is it on a first come basis?

My main family line is primarily from Hunterdon County but I have extended lines throughout NJ and beyond.

Dennis

I think there are about 5 readers. I can't remember if I went on a weekend or weekday, but I was the first one there in the morning. I think maybe two or three people came in later, so there was no issue with getting a reader. I stayed on there until mid-afternoon. I didn't see anything about a time limit, I think it is just first come first serve...
