I may be able to help out with anyone doing research in and around Gloucester County New Jersey. I live in the area and would be happy to help out. Don't expect me to run over to the Historical Society the next day or every week. But I can stop by when I am in the area and help out, so get a list of things you want, because it may be a month or so until I stop over there.

If you have a tombstone photo that you want, I can do that too.

Jeff

Antolik, Andrew, Susie 1920 Franklin, Gloucester, NJ

Hello,
I am looking for a death index for NJ or Gloucester Co.

I have in 1910 in Newark the family of Andrew Antolik - he is not listed as head. Wife (head) is listed as Susie. Children: Andrew Antolik 14
Helen Antolik, age 13, Joseph Antolik age 10, Agnes age 8, Emma Antolik age 7, and Charles Antolik	age 5.

Then in 1920 Andrew is back as head of household and they are living in Franklin as Antolink. Susie is not listed - Her sister Mary Sinmansky is the housekeeper. Children are: Augustin age 18 (possibly Mary's son), Emma age 16, Charles age 14, and Cande age 8.

This make me think Susie has died.

Later at least 2 of the children, Emma and Charles end up in Chicago, Illinois.

Any assistance about a death index online would be appreciated or ideas about searches for NJ.

Will be glad to reciprocate with Chicago or Illinois records.

Thank you

Sometime ago I was walking through a cemetery in Hurffville, a Methodist cemetery on Rt. 47 and stumbled across a grave site for Thomas Van Meter.

Would someone do a look-up to see if Thomas is buried in Pitman or Gloucester Co. and the details of death, internment, and others in the plot. Thomas may have been a member of the Methodist church that owns the cemetery since the family was Methodist. Thank you in advance for your help and all the good work everyone does.

In mid April we will be visiting Burlington, Monmouth and Glouchester Counties to research genealogy of the LIPPINCOTT, ENGLISH, ALLEN, BUNTING & TILTON lines. We are interested in the best places to conduct research in this area as this will be our first trip to New Jersey. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I am looking for any information about a Julia Malchefski who supposedly lived in Paulsboro in 1952. The only information I have about her is from a Nov. 1952 obituary of her brother Adolph Norwillo in Plains, PA. I have tried tracing her through the only Catholic church in Paulsboro at that time without luck. She would have been born in Lthuania about 1880-1890. Unfortunately, I don't know her husband's first name. I know I'm probably up against that "brick wall," but it's worth a shot. Any help greatly appreciated.

I am attempting to connect George Dilks, born 8 June 1804 in Gloucester County, New Jersey to Jonathan Dilks, born 1800 who married Jane Hamilton Simpson. I believe that they are brothers and the sons of Jonathan Dilks and Mary. However, the only information I have connecting George to his father, Jonathan Dilks, was a small handwritten reference in a personal family source. I would like to know for sure if these two were brothers, and if Jonathan and Mary had any other children. My George Dilks married Hannah Harrie Richie in Philadelphia. He died in Philadelphia at the age of 51 shortly after the birth of his last child. George and Hannah were Quakers.

William, Ida M. & Leroy Johnson, in 1900 Census; What's Ida's maiden name?

My G-Aunt Ida May Hamler, b. 1872 in PA but lived in Sussex Co., NJ as a child, married a "Johnson" but I have not been able to find anything about her past that. (This Johnson family seems to be connected to the William **M.** Hamler family, the Jennie Baldwin Hamler family and the Kemp family who are buried in Sussex Co., NJ. I have not been able to connect my Hamler family with William M. Hamler yet.)

I did find this 1900 Census that looks very "suspicious" and I would like to know if the mother in this family is my G-Aunt Ida Hamler Johnson:

Census of 1900
Glassboro, Gloucester Co., NJ

William H. Johnson b June 1874, NJ; father b. NJ; mother b. NJ

Ida M. Johnson b. June 1872,PA; father b NJ; mother b. NJ

Leroy Johnson b Oct 1898, NJ (son); father b. NJ; mother b. PA

Ironically, Ida May Hamler's father was William **H.** HAMLER, b. 1839 in northern NJ (Warren, Sussex & Morris Co. area); her mother was Anne E. Townsend.
Ida May's paternal Grandparents were born in New Jersey too.

It just sounds so suspicious that the Ida May Johnson in this Census entry might my G-Aunt, Ida May (Hamler) Johnson, b. 1872 in PA.

I think an obituary for her would be particularly helpful if anyone has it.

Thanks for any help.

Kathleen Hamler Purchase
LPurch6636@aol.com

I found an Almira and Sthepen [prob Stephen] Dilkes age 22 in the 1850 Deptford census and am needing as much info as I can get to determine if she is the Almira Lippincott Dilks who married my gggrandfather, James Kelly in Brooklyn, NY in 1859.

The census states she was 17 and had attended school during the year. I'm thinking she may have married Dilks after graduation. A John Dilkes family was on the same page. I'm wondering if he could be related to Stephen [too young to be his father at age 31].

Any info you may have would be greatly appreciated,

judy
Wolf family of Gloucester County, New Jersey late 1700s

I am researching an ancestor named Hannah Wolf who married John Briggs, Sr. in 1809. Hannah was born 1786 in Gloucester County, New Jersey and died September 13, 1840 of Paralysis. She was buried at St. Pauls Churchyard in Philadelphia. What I am hoping to find out is who Hannah's parents were. A number of Wolfs show up in the New Jersey tax records of the time, to wit:
Michael Wolf, David Wolf, Harmon Wolf, John Wolf. It seems as if Michael owned a large plot of land that got subdivided around 1791 to what may be his sons (David, Harmon, and John). As they all dwell in Woolwich Township, I think it is safe to deduce that Hannah is part of their family but exactly how she fits in, I can't figure. If anyone has any information about this branch of the New Jersey Wolfs, I would be much obliged!
Thanks!
Jen Dragon

Looking for any other children, wife's maiden name, parents.... all the usual stuff. With a name like Azariah you'd think he'd stand out like a sore thumb.

Anna Eliza Middleton b 1800 Greenwich married George Myers, Jr

Anna and George are my 4th Great Grandparents. This is the information I have and additions would be greatly appreciated!

Anna was born in NJ around 1800, they married March 22 1820 in Greenwich and they lived in the area for the rest of their lives. I have no idea who her parents were. I have found several Middletons in Greenwich on the NJ Census tax records that could be her Father. They are William, Jacob, Aaron, Nathan and John.

George was born in PA around 1800 and died before 1950 I believe, since she is listed without him on the 1850 census. Family information indicated that his father, George Sr., was from Germany but that's all I know. Joseph may have been a brother to George Jr., but I'm not certain. Joseph married Emily Stiles.

I would dearly love to know who their parents and siblings were.

Thanks in advance for any help!

You can e-mail me directly if you wish at:
PennyDeMora@verizon.net

Take Care,
Penny

What kind of records
would be available from that period and where would they
be found.

I am researching my family history - Fowler and Stone of New Jersey. The information obtained from Anne Kerr of my immediate family has the name of Gerladine Mae Fowler and myself as the daughters of William E Fowler. GM Fowler is a half-sister I did not know about until now. To put the record straight I need the name of the birth mother to Gerladine Mae Fowler, born 5th Dec. 1952 in Woodbury, New Jersey.
I obtained all records of the Descendents of Benjamin W. Fowler from Anne Kerr who has a site on WorldConnect Projects Roots web relating to the Stone Family of New Jersey.
The relationship of Cheryl (myself) and Geraldine to William E Fowler is mentioned in the records of the Gloucester County NJ Historical Society. There is an error of the name of the mother to Gerladine Mae Fowler that needs correcting.
Cheryl Fowler (nee)

Robert Friend PRICE and Hannah PRICE

I am trying to locate information on Robert Friend PRICE and his wife Hannah or "Leze" Price who was a half sister to Margary Price Mickle, wife of the Quaker diarist Samuel Mickle. I think the Price family was from Haddonfield. The Price children that I know are: Margary b 1748, Hannah b 1766 and Blanche. My primary interest is determining how Margary Price Mickle and Hannah Price (who married Dr. George F. Alberti of Philadelphia) are half sisters. In his diary, Samuel Mickle says that Margary's parents were Robert Friend Price and Leze Price . "Notes on Old Gloucester County" by F. Stewart says that Margary's parents were Robert Friend Price and Hannah Price. Robert died in 1782 and it appears that Leze Price married Daniel Smith by 1792. Any help in solving this puzzle would be most appreciated. I am descended from Hannah Alberti. Many thanks, Nancy

Dear Ann
Our family wa Quaker in 1821 when Adam Morgan ran the SIgn of the Golden Sheaf in Swedesborough, NJ. We were Quaker before that, but as you know the records for NJ are not available from 1790 to 1830 in census data. Adam Morgan married Rebecca Tomlinson in August 1817 in NJ, although she had been born in Pa. Adam Morgan born about 1798 NJ left Swedesborough, NJ by 1825 because when he appears in the census in 1850 in Philadelphia his son John was born in 1825 in PA. But his son Benjamin Rush Ellis Morgan was born 1821 or 1822 in Swedesborough according to the death certificate. The family left NJ supposedly because Adam Morgan was disowned, but it may have been his son Benjamin who was disowned about 1845 when he married Hannah Leach -- we do not know if she were Quaker. The family said the Morgans had always attended Morrestown Meeting or Gloucester Meeting which is a contradiction. But they lived in Gloucester Co. across the line from Burlington Co. where Evesham Meeting was. Records must be somewhere for this family. John and Sarah Morgan sold land in 1817 at Carpenters Landing -Gloucester Co-NJ to Nathan Thomas. The land they sold was next to Adam Morgan. John and Sarah Mogan may be his parents or his aunt and uncle. If it is his parents, Sarah may be Sarah Flaningam/Flanigan whose mother was Sarah Jennings. If John and Sarah are his aunt and uncle, then perhaps Adam Morgan is his father and our Adam is a junior. His mother was a Sarah Flanigan or Flaningham and her mother Sarah jennings.
1. Is there a record for an Adam Morgan b about 1798, wife Rebekah, mother Sarah
2. Is there a record for a John Morgan and wife sARAH
3. Is there a record of Benjamin Rush Ellis Morgan b 1821 NJ, wife hannah leach
Thank you so much
susan aldridge

WOLF and DAVENPORT families, Gloucester Co, NJ, 1800s

I am interested in finding sources related to the WOLF and DAVENPORT families in Gloucester County, particularly 1800-1870 or so. As I am not familiar with New Jersey records, I am not sure all the best places to look for records that might show family connections... any help would be appreciated.

My primary interest is the following family group (data from census records 1830-1860 and marriage index):

I. Charles WOLF (b. ca. 1800 NJ) m. Martha W. DAVENPORT (b. ca. 1808 NJ) 11 Feb 1830 Gloucester County, NJ
a. Thomas D. WOLF (b. 1830)
b. unknown 10-14 girl from 1840 census (possible twin?)
c. Mary WOLF > twins b. 1845
d. Martha WOLF

Papers which I think may hold clues are:

1844 Will of Thomas DAVENPORT (Gloucester Co. NJ 04721)
1847 Will of Isabella WOLF (" " NJ 04814)
1856 Inventory, Martha WOLF (" " NJ 05105)
1865 Will of James M WOLF (" " NJ 05419)

I found these citations in the Index to New Jersey Wills, 1698-1890 (Ronald Ver Jackson). There are many others, of course, but these 4 names are of particular interest.

My known ancestor, Thomas Davenport WOLFE (b. Nov 1830 NJ), first shows up in Pensacola, FL in 1860. Based on census data and childrens' names, I think this is his family, but am lacking evidence.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

K C
1830 Marriage Record Request -- Charles WOLF / Martha Webb DAVENPORT

I am interested in the record for the following marriage:

Name: CHARLES WOLF
Spouse: MARTHA WEBB DAVENPORT
Marriage Date: 11 Feb 1830
County: Gloucester
State: NJ

I am not familiar with New Jersey records, so I do not know what type of information to expect. I would be interested in any information anybody has to share about this couple and their descendants or ancestors.

I know they were in Gloucester County in 1830, 1840, and 1850, but by 1860 Charles, two twin daughters, and a new woman "Susan" had moved to Camden County, NJ. I surmise that Martha had died.

Thank you!

K C
looking for the parents of, birth or marriage of, or any other info on :

<<< Jacob Spencer, he was born about 1737 and died in 1837. An obituary in the New Jersey State Gazette, Trenton, NJ, December 1, 1837 reads: "DIED At Gloucester, Jacob Spencer, aged 100 years. Mr. S. was probably the oldest man in Gloucester county; he was constable of Deptford Township, more than sixty years ago; he was an active man during the Revolutionary War, and served in the capacity of Orderly Sergeant about one year, and in most of the battles and skirmishes that took place in this county, in the years 1777 '78. He had seven wifes during his life time, and but one child (John Spencer,) who is now living in the neighborhood of Squankum."

(I don't know whether that means he really had only one child or that only one child outlived him. I don't know which of the seven wives was John's mother.)

It may have been Hannah Dilks, who married Jacob on 5 August 1777 in the Baptist Church, Pittsgrove, Salem County, NJ.

There was a James Spencer, born about 1712, who married Sarah Borton 1 August 1737 in Burlington County, NJ. They MAY have been Jacob's parents, but I have no proof.

also: The 1830 census for Deptford Township, Gloucester County shows a Jacob Spencer 80-90 and a woman 60-70. >>>

I am not asking you to go out of your way, but it seems to me that a man who lived to be 100 and had 7 wives and was in the Revolutionary War might have some mention of him somewhere, doncha think?

also an Ellen (Cheesman?) Jones (could be widow of Joshua Jones ? but not necessarily married to >)John Spencer Jr. I have her name listed as mother of groom on the marriage certificate-1878 of Joseph Spencer-born 1837 (first wife was Sarah Powell from Isle of Wight , VA) and Sarah Jane Letts/Litts-born 1847 (mother of bride was Sarah Truax, father Charles Letts/Litts)

John Jr born circa 1800 is listed as being married to Ann Albertson in 1818 in Washington Township. My guess is that Ellen would have been close to the same age and was a peer.

thanks, Ravyn
Am trying to find descendants of Mary A. DAVIS who married into the HOFFMAN family in 1910 in Atlantic City NJ:

HOFFMAN, Daniel Aloysius (3)(William Griffin (2), William D (1)) : 1885 -

1885
Daniel HOFFMAN was born 2 February 1885 in Washington DC.

I'm researching the Gerlack family from Harrisonville. My ancestor Fredrick had a brother Lewis that has disappeared on me.

Fredrick Gerlack was born 1833 in Germany and died 1900 in Harrisonville. Lewis was born in 1836, came to the US in 1857. He was with Frederick in 1860 census in Harrison Twp. After that I don't have any information on him.

Anthony Gerlack married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Mersinger in 1891. They had 12 children, of which 9 lived to be adults. Elizabeth Mersinger (born 1871 died 1949) was the daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Magin) Mersinger.
The Mersinger's lived in Woolrich and Logan Twp. from about 1868 to 1904.

Margaret Mersinger died in 1916 and had moved to Swedesboro before her death. Her obituary states she was visiting her niece right before her death.

Cathy

I'm trying to connect my Margaret (Magin) to the Magin families that lived in Bridgeport area.

William Bartlett & Charles Bartlett, Sr., both worked at Weymouth Iron Works in 1818-1819

Does anyone have any information on these two men:

Charles Bartlett, Sr.

William Bartlett

Both of these men worked in the Weymouth Iron Works in Weymouth, Hamilton Township, Gloucester County (now Atlantic County), New Jersey. My source for this is a writing by Mrs. M. Alice Stewart called "Weymouth, New Jersey, Over One Hundred Years Ago", which was read at the Picnic at Old Colwell Estate on June 2, 1934 and was compiled and found at the Atlantic County Historical Society (now called the Atlantic Heritage Center) in Somers Point, NJ.

Could this William Bartlett who work at the iron works in 1818-1819 be the father of William S. Bartlett (b. abt. 1830), husband of Harriet Adams (b.Sept. 15, 1835)? Both William S. & Harriet are buried in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Millville, Cumberland County, NJ. William S. Bartlett and his wife Harriet were married on Feb 04, 1856 in Lower Bank, Washington Township, Burlington County, NJ by the Rev. Nicholas Van Sant. Three of their five children died early in their lives.

Thanks,

Joe

Does anyone know any HELLEMS? Supposedly, in 1723, Henry Hellems, with his wife and 10 children, went by oxcart from Swedesboro into the "wilds of Pennsylvania." I'm mostly looking in New Jersey, but will take anything you might know about.

Thank you,
Cathie (Hellems) Warboy

Thanks to those who have answered. My home is in Gloucester County, I have gone to our Boro Hall, our Historical Society, and the Glouc. County Historical Society. I now know that my home was not here in 1876 but was here sometime in the 1880's. My next stop, County Clerk for deed records. Any other suggestions would be a great help.
