I'm new to geneology, my great, great great grand father George Fries was a farmer on the 1860 census in Swedesboro/Woolwich ( listed as George Frieze )His son Andrew was born there late in 1860. How can I find some more information on them both i.e. baptism of Andrew, location of farm or something else of value. Thank you for any help.

I don’t know what else you have on George.

In 1870 George was living in Philadelphia. In 1880 his name was George Freas in the census index at Ancestry. He was still in Philadelphia. In 1900 I believe I found Andrew in Philadelphia.

The 1860 census for George does not have anything in the column for the value of real estate. He may have been renting a farm which would make it difficult to determine where the farm was. The deed would have been in the name of the owner.

For baptism or other church records you could try looking for a church that had a German congregation. The Gloucester County Historical Society may have information that will help you.

The New Jersey State Archive in Trenton may have birth certificates for the children born in New Jersey. They may also have marriage certificates for some of the children.

If Andrew married in Philadelphia the Family History Center has indexes of Philadelphia marriages. From this you can get the certificate number and order the certificate.

Curt,

Thank you for the advice. As I said I'm fairly new to this and I very much appreciate the assistance. I'm going to contact the Gloucester County Historical Society.
