I recently found out that the great grandfather of my children was born in Mayaquez,
Porto (Puerto) Rico about 1889. His name is the same as his father, John Frederick
Philippi. The father and mother, Annah Trautvetter, were born in Germany. I heard that his family had a sugar plantation in Puerto Rico.
He was married Sept. 18, 1918, in
Maine to a descendent of the Mayflower families, and as far as I can tell, they have always been Protestant. On the marriage application, the father was living in
Leonardo,
New Jersey and his occupation was listed as “merchant”, and the mother was dead. Also, he was working for Great Northern Paper Company. John and his first wife were divorced after a few years, and I heard he had other children from a second marriage who lived in
New York.
I would appreciate any help.
