Looking for the ORIGINAL Crawford-Hughes-Hand bible with family register of Crawfords, Hughes and Hand families. Bible dated 1712. I found that it was in possession of Mrs. John Bate of Fishing Creek, NJ in 1926. She was living with her daughter, Mrs. George Ogden Cummings (Beula Bate) in 1930. She may have passed it down to the daughter, Beula Cummings. Beula died in 1937.

Beula and George O. Cummings had at least two sons, George H. Cummings and Edwin J. Cummings who may have had the bible given to them. They have both passed away, George in 1938 and Edwin in 1989.

Edwin and his wife, Marjorie Pettit Gould had Edwin J. III, born 1928 and died 2007. Edwin III wife, Betty, and his sister, Nancy Thurber of Greenport, NY were alive at time of his death in 2007.

If anyone knows if this bible still exists and knows its whereabouts, it is a really important piece of genealogical information to the families in Cape May County, NJ. Several important genealogy books have been printed using a transcript from the bible and not the original bible. It would be important to see the actual handwritten records in the bible before taking these transcriptions as "gospel" truth.
