I saw Joshua Mills Brown death certificate. His birth was 1805 in Jones Mills, NJ. There are a few, but most likely the one down across the way from Chatsworth as he sometimes taught school in Warren Grove which is right through the woods from there. His mother and father are definitely listed as Simeon and Nancy Anne Brown., I do not remember if Nancy Anne's entire first name was used or just one of her names nancy or Anne.
Regarding Howard Brown and Leon Brown - they definitely knew each other and knew they were related. Why were there two Joshua's in this family? I have no idea but I speculate that the first was not raised with his parents and may have been raised by a relative or someone as he was born before they married in 1808. He would have been about three then. My grandpop Leon knew that Simeon was his great-grandfather and talked about him as such. Looking at the map, Cassville, NJ, formerly Goshen, where Joshua ended up, was not too far from Jones Mills and Warren Grove. Also, my grandpop said that the folks from Cassville came down to Pennypot to see Simeon. About the death of Nancy Anne listed as Buena - it was more specifically Newtonville, according to Leon Brown.

Looking for Simeon's parents for over thirty years!

I was unable to figure out how to find it on the ATC Press website. I believe she died on 6/15/01 in Florida, and she could be the link to a side of my family whom I have never met.
I've been following your logic - since John died so young, Emily needed help with the children, if she was still living. I understand about relatives taking them in - that practice was still happening in our family when I was young. I had to look up what "Phthisis pul." meant on a medical site. So 1868 John and brother William had parents 1846 John and Emily. 1846 John had parents John and Ann. And that John had father Frederick. You can get blurry-eyed reading all the sites - I'll follow up on all these leads. You have helped so much - thank you! Do you know where I would purchase the birth records? (PS - If you get tired of Wildonger, I've come to a dead end on a Charles Murphy b.abt 1802 in South Jersey) - can't find his parents. Thank you again.

I was going to provide you with some additional information on ordering a copy of the Death Certificate for John Willdenger (1846-1868) when I discovered that the contents of FHL microfilm # 1003695 are available online at Familysearch.org.
See:

Unfortunately, this is actually a page from a death register, and it doesn't provide the name of the spouse or the informant. It says his residence was Bastian Place; however, I don't find him in the 1868 Philadelphia City Directory.

That's all for now.

MR

You might want to hold on to a few other items, which will be useful if you are able to confirm that the John Wildonger b 1846 in Montgomery County, and died Sept 20, 1868 in Philadelphia is, in fact, the father of your John Wildonger. As I indicated, I believe the John Wildonger born 1846 is the son of John Wildonger, born around 1801-1806 and his wife Ann.
I believe this is the elder John's grave in William Penn Cemetery, Somerton, PA
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=wi...;

He died August 2, 1891.
Based on his appearance on the 1850 census,
http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=...
I think it's safe to assume that the 80 year old Frederick Wildonger living with him is probably his father, born in New Jersey.

MR

This is the tree I mentioned, which lists a William Wildonger b 1866, PA, as the son of John Wildonger and Emily Jackson
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/10497751/person/-629873545?ss...=
If you look at the source citations for that tree, it shows William Wildonger in 1870 at the age of 4, living in Philadelphia with the Harding and Crosdale families. It would appear that little William was orphaned and was living with relatives.
In 1880, William "Wildonyer" age 14, is living in Montgomery county with James and Rebecca Bryant. Rebecca is listed as born around 1843.
That same tree has source citations for Emily Jackson, and shows her in 1850 living in Montgomery County, PA with her parents Richard and Mary Jackson, and her older sister Rebecca, among others. It's possible that the above-mentioned Rebecca Bryant is the same person as Rebecca Jackson, therefore indicating that William Wildonger is living with his aunt in Montgomery County, PA in 1880.

Take a look at this -
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=18...=
We find a John Wildunger and wife Ann living in Montgomery County PA on the 1850 census. They have a son named John who was born in 1846.
Then in 1860, we find the same John and Ann "Wilagoner" living in Philadelphia
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=18...=
Again, he has a son John Wildonger born 1846.

Now look on Ancestry at Philadelpha, PA Death Certificates 1803-1915.
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=...
We find a John "Willdenger" born 1846 in Montgomery County, died 20 Sep 1868. That would be just about right to have left orphaned children to show up on the 1870 census, as is the case with William. (I can't find your John in 1870 - he might have been going by another name if he was taken in by relatives.)
I think there is a good chance that this John (1846-1868) is the father of William, born 1866, and probably of your John Wildonger, born around 1868. One way to help verify is to order a copy of this death certificate. Notice the reference to FHL Film Number:1003695. You can obtain a copy from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City for $4. Hopefully, it will list his wife's name (or the informant) as Emily (or possibly a variant, like Amelia)
Here are the instructions for ordering copies:
https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Photoduplication_Serv...

Of course, it would be most helpful to find your John and/or William Wildonger's birth record (either Somerton, Philadelphia, PA) or Horsham, Montgomery, PA, as listed for William on another tree - http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/8506791/person/-933118331

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

MR

Yes, the entry for John Wildonger in the 1900 Philadelphia City directory has him at that address -- 2102 Ruffner. See attachment.

I hope to have more information for you tomorrow.
MR

okay - so I pulled up the 1900 census, looked at the original image and by then I see their address listed as 2102 Ruffner? Scanning to the right, John has his parents' birthplace listed as Maryland. But that could be a mistake as the entries above it were also Maryland. I'll also try tracing backward using William. Thanks again!

I found some interesting clues that may be of help.
John's surname was badly misinterpreted on the 1900 census for Philadelphia, PA, Ward 38
John Windinger 32 b. PA, "oil clot printer"
Jadia Windinger 25
John Windinger 7
William Windinger 5
Sarah Windinger 3
We first find John Wildonger in the 1893 Philadelphia City Directory. He is listed as a printer, living on Cresheim Road. In the 1896 Philadelpha directory, John Wildonger, printer is living at 2123 Midvale. Also living at the same address is a William Wildonger. IMPORTANT CLUE -- might be his brother. In 1897, John Wildonger is still at 2123 Midvale, but William is no longer there.
William Wildonger, born 1866 in PA, is listed on a Public Member tree on Ancestry, as the son of John Wildonger and Emily Jackson. I am not sure if this is the same William who was living with your John in Philadelphia in 1896.

Will keep looking.

MR

It was a good clue but I found a 1910 Miracode Index for 1868 John in Montgomery County and another 1910 Miracode Index for 1873 John in Bucks County. They were probably cousins. Thanks again for your help!

yes, thank you - the first 1910 census is the correct family with spouse Sadie. I wish I could know for sure if the 1880 family is young John - I understand how the census ages can be incorrect - I have no clue if the siblings match up. I'll use this to dig deeper. I appreciate your help - thank you, again!
