My 5th great-grandparents are Peter and Mary Margarette Hoffman Frambes who came to Philadelphia from Holland on 11/22/1752 on ship "Phoenix." They settled in PA, but were driven out by Indians, then settled by Njon (sp?) Church in Bargaintown, NJ. Both are buried in that church's cemetery. (Large monument with info) The rest of my line stayed pretty much within NJ boundaries, Atlantic & Gloucester Counties:
1 Peter (b. 9/15/1723, d. 3/8/1782)& Mary M. Hoffman Frambes
2 Michael (b. 1/15/1775, d. 10/28/1853)& Sarah Edwards
Frambes
3 Nicholas (b. 4/21/1803, d. 6/27/1849) & Lydia Kendall
Frambes (A notation from my great-aunt: "He (Nicholas)
brought up a load of oysters to Philadelphia from
Pleasantville...took him 3 days" (no date))
4 Hannah Smith Frambes b. 1/1/1829, d. 4/20/1903 & Israel
Townsend Shaw
Rest of my line continues to me. Perhaps this info will be of some use to you. My great-aunt is the genealogist of our family and she has passed down her love of it to me. I just check out her 30 years' worth of research. Her notes indicate that major source of info was book ATLANTIC COUNTY that she found in the Gloucester County Historical Society Library in Woodbury, NJ. If you have any info about my Frambes ancestors, would you be kind enough to share it with me? Many thanks. Sharon Smith

Hello Atlantic County
I am seeking information on the Frambes Family of Atlantic County. I have found the data in "The Daily Union History of Atlantic City and County" by John F. Hall dated 1900. However, I find a fair number of crossed data entries or I am misunderstanding the data presented. If any one has information on this Family. With Particular attention to Peter and Joseph sons of Nicholas, I think Peter and Joseph moved to Ohio -- Clearmont County about 1800 to 1810. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

My Mother was a decendent of the Nicholes Frambes Family. She was born in Atlantic City in 1903. I think her Mom was a Mary Frambes. I have more details and would enjoy sharing.

Hi Sharon. New to this so not yet sure what I'm doing. I was interested in you response to Coulson Mucher re: the Frambes family. You have much of the same info I had, except you have more details, like the exact date and name of the ship Peter & Mary Margarette came over on. I had that they came on the same ship, (no name) but that they were children at the time. They settled in Upper Dublin Twp, PA and were driven out by Indians. The name of the church at Bargaintown was the Zion Church. I was interested in the source of the dates you had for the first three generations. Peter, Michael & Nicholas. My husband descent is: Peter, Nicholas, David, & Peter, Peter, Mary Ann, (David & Mary Ann married) then Daniel E., Frank & Helen. My only source for any of this family has been The History of Atlantic City & County, NJ by John F. Hall, publ. by The Daily Union Printing Co., [1900]. Appreciate any sources you can lead me to.

TIA Daisy

Hi Sharon, I've been on genealogy.com frambes form recently and have shared E-Mail with Martha who mentioned you. One of your postings led me to rootsweb.com - thanks!
Anyway, you and Martha have given me much more than I had to share. My line appears to be Peter>Andrew>Joseph>Samuel>William - William's daughter, Bessie, my great grandmother married a John Washington Adams and so ended the Frambes name for my family.
About the only info I could add to your extensive info is some personal stuff that may or may not apply to your line descending from Peter and Michael.
I traced causes of death from Joseph, who died of consumption, Samuel who died of chronic Bronchitis around age 72(1909), William-TB-39(1906), his brother Frederick-TB-34(1912) and Bessie-TB-34(1925). My Aunt, now 71, a granddaughter of Bessie's has chronic respiratory problems. There may be a genetic respiratory weakness there! Any such thing in your line?
Also, I saw Peter listed as a weaver, nothing on Andrew, Joseph possibly a farm laborer at 70 years according to 1880 census, then Samuel and his sons, William, Frederick, Robert and John all glassblowers. You have any info?
Also, at various times my Frambeses were in Gloucester, Salem and Camden counties.

Are you related to Walter J. Mucher from NY or his father, John Mucher. I only know that my grandfather came with his brothers to America through Ellis Island.
