Surnames: Caswell, Felch
I have an old family group picture, almost certainly taken in Seabrook, New Hampshire just after the turn of the century. I am trying to identify the individuals in it. There are 21 people. I believe it is either the family of Henry N. Caswell (b.1846) or Albert Felch (b. 1837). As there have been more than one marriage between these two families there could be both Caswells and Felches as well as spouses, Collins, Eaton, Knowles, Walton, et.al. Are any of these names familiar to any listers?
John E Collins (b. 1825-35)
Albert F Felch (b.1837)
Benjamin Walton (b.1840)
Lola Eaton (b. 1858)
Lucy Felch (b. 1863)
George Felch (b. 1865)
William Clarence Felch (b. 1869)
Maude Arabella Caswell (b. 1871)
Emma Albertina Caswell (b. 1874)
Harriet Caswell (b. 1880)
Alice May Caswell (b. 1882)
Mabel Caswell (b. 1885)
Bertha Caswell (b. 1887)
Bernice Caswell (b. 1890)
Viola Maud Felch (b. 1891)
Ida D Caswell (b. 1892)
Clara Felch (b. 1894)
Doris Felch (b. 1902)
Leonora Pearl Felch (b. 1904)
Helen M Felch (b. 1906)

Have you been able to identify anyone in the pic? Just wondering if Henry Caswell was in it.

Surnames: Caswell, Felch, Eaton, Tarleton, White
I have been able to positively ID a few and guess at some more. Are you a descendant of Henry N. Caswell? My descent is through his daughter Maude by his first wife Lydia Robinson, then her daughter Leonora Felch, then her daughter Eleanor White, my mother.
The short answer is that Henry isn't in the photo because he died Jan 16, 1893. Tombstone paid for by the government because he was a civil War vet, buried in the Smithtown Cemetery in Seabrook. The photo must have been taken during the warm months of 1907.
I believe that the woman in the center of the door is Lola (Eaton) Caswell Perkins. She would have been 49 in 1907. She was Henry's 2nd wife. This would have been her house, probably built by Henry on Farm Lane and still standing in 2005. The man just in front of her on the right is likely her 2nd husband David Perkins. I have not figured out who is the young man/boy next to him. All the possibilities I have looked at had died previous to the time of the photo.
The other man in the picture is probably William Clarence Felch, who lived next door and was married to Maude (Caswell) Felch, Henry’s eldest daughter, surrounded by her 5 daughters. Maude is the woman with the rather severe hairstyle just to the left of the tear. She is holding a baby, Helen age 1. Left of Maud is Viola, hand on hip, 15 or 16, wearing a blouse with mutton sleeves and a dark neck piece. I am not sure who the child in front of her is. The little girl right of the tear is Doris. Behind the tear may be Clara, 12, and Leonora 6. This is likely because Leonora hated pictures of herself and was known to have torn herself out of pictures she disliked and probably tore this one.
The older woman in the flowered dress may be Achsah Ann (Brown) Eaton, mother of Lola.
The only other woman I know for sure in the photo is the one on the far right. She is Harriet (Felch) Tarleton, William’s sister. She seems to be holding something and if the blur at her feet is a child, it is Sherman age 2, hard to tell.
The other women may be Henry Caswell’s other daughters: Emma by his 1st wife; Alice May, Mabel, Bertha, Bernice, and Ida by Lola; or others unknown. Lola and David also had a daughter, Louella who would have been 10 or 11, but none of the girls seem that age.
Hope this is of interest. Do let me know how you fit into the family.

Yes I am a descendant of Henry Caswell through his daugter Bernice who married Corydon Perkins, had Clarence Sr. who married Helen Marshall, had Clarence Perkins Jr. who is my grandfather. Also Lola's daughter with David Perkins, Luella married my Great Grandmother's (From My Grandmothers side) brother Emery Beckman. Do you know where the house on farm lane is or was? also wondering if you know Henry's middle name N.? Thank you for the info. M.Potvin

Well Hello Cousin-
You must be a generation younger than I am.
My mother's Aunt Helen (daughter of Maude, daughter of Henry) married Emery's brother Archie Beckman. I remember Louella keeping a penny candy store in her house on Farm Lane. I am now thinking her house may be the house in the picture. It was on the north side of Farm Lane just east of Causeway Street. Going further up Farm Lane on the same side was the home of Archie and Helen.
Archie and Helen had two daughters, both of whom died young. My mother helped care for them when she was a girl because they never developed. "They just stayed babies and had to be changed and fed." One was Mildred and I have found no name for the other. If you should come across that item in your research, do let me know.

p.s.
This is all starting to come back.
I have a photo of Jimmy Perkins. (see attachment) A handsome young man, a cousin of some degree of my mother and a good friend as well. Would you by chance know how he fits into the family picture?
Also my mother and grandmother knew a "Junior". I met him as a child. When I asked who he was Mom said he was second cousin if you figure it one way and a fourth cousin if you figure it around the other way; my first inkling of the complexities of Seabrook families. Was your grandfather Clarence Perkins, Jr. called Junior

Do you belong to the New England to Canada Caswell group?
If not, you might think about joining.

Lots of information available on both sides of the border.

I beleive Jimmy Perkins is actually Corydon Perkins Jr., which would make Corydon and Bernice his parents and my Grandfathers uncle. And yes my grandfather is call junior.not sure if it would have been him or not. He was born in 1931, would that be right

I think you must be correct. Although I was under the impression my mother's Jimmy was closer to her in age. She was born in 1924. Teresa may know(or you may know) my first cousins who still live in Seabrook on Causeway, I think, Ronald White and/or his sister Marcia.
I have quite a few generations of Caswells and Eatons etc. in my tree. The Eatons were researched because I thought that Henry N. Caswell's wife would certainly be my great-great grandmother. That turned out to be wrong when I discovered his first wife. My mother told me that some people considered it scandalous that Lola was buried between her two husbands. I have not seen the gravesite however.
If you (or any other listers) would like the ancestries or GED.COM of these folks, I will be happy to share what I have.

Do you have any information about a Eliza Herriet Eaton (1846-1927)supposedly born in Seabrook? She married Darius George Brackett and moved to Mass. She was the mother of my grandmother but is a problem for me. Her husband is another of my problems.

Thanks, Mary Ann

Mary Ann -
I have not found the exact names you mention, but I did find two entries in the book Vital Statistics of Seabrook, New Hampshire, 1768 - 1903 by William Haslet Jones.
Page 121: Davis C. Brackett age 25 (b.about 1839) Marriage Intent 17 Aug 1864 to Eliza E. Eaton age 17 (b.about 1847).
Page 141: Eliza C. Eaton age 17 (b.about 1847) Marriage Intent 17 Aug 1864 to Davis C. Brackett age 25 (b.about 1839)
I can well believe that someone's handwriting could be mis-transcribed. That Davis could certainly be Darius and the C. could be really a G. Obviously Eliza E. and Eliza C. are the same person.

Best of luck in your search.

Thank you, that is one little clue to the mystery of those 2 people. I really appreciate you taking the time to look for this information for me.
Thanks again, Mary Ann
