By process of elimination, I believe that Josiah Melvin of Chester is the best candidate for the father of Sarah (1816) Mahettable (1822) and Eliza (1829) Melvin. Josiah and wife Sarah "Sally" Blanchard were born and married in Chester but moved for a time to Anson, Somerset, Maine. There appear to be no records available in Maine. After the death of the mother, the family returned to Chester. Eliza was still young enough to be in school. The sisters moved to Hallowell, Maine by 1850, but their father remained in Chester (Auburn) until his death in 1858. Does anyone have a suggestion for finding a will or school or church records that might help me to confirm or disprove the connection?
