It sounds like many Cornish Miners came here to work in the mines
http://www.empiremine.org/

It also has information on asking for family research.

I see from his WWI record, he was born on May 24, 1889. I see him in Grass Valley in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, still single, and still a miner, but I have not found him in 1940 yet, nor in the California death index after 1940. I will keep looking.
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MH75-CY4

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XCDD-171

You can search the www.familysearch.org site for free

It has developed to become one of The Salvation Army's most distinctive international services in many territories where it continues to be in operation 120 years on.

The mission of the Family Tracing Service is to restore or sustain family relationships by tracing relatives with whom contact has been lost, either recently or in the distant past.

Its key objectives are:

To relieve the anxiety of enquirers, by assuring them of our concern, and the full support of our service

To trace relatives, in order to advise them of the enquiry

To open a line of communication between enquirer and enquiree

To act as intermediaries until such time as trust is established between the parties

Where appropriate, to seek to resolve the difficulties which brought about the break in the relationship

To find out more about the Family Tracing Service or to apply to have a relative traced, please contact the Salvation Army in the country where you reside.

That so nice of you, thanks! We have one article, but not two, so one will be news.

In fact, our cousin, Edna's estranged son, turned 90 this month, and his son took him to the towns where Edna had lived, including Lovelock. I understand the locals were very kind and helpful, and he eventually found out that the cemetery records were kept in someone's house. He found them, and located Edna and Frank's unmarked graves. I haven't had a letter from him yet telling me about the trip, but I can imagine he feels a great sense of closure. He's looked for something of his mother all his life.

Of course, genealogy helped!

Using Newspaper archives. com I find these two items.

Reno Evening Gazette 1942 4/29 page 2
Frank Borgeson and wife die in accident today.
Couple on way to work when tragedy occurs.
Lovelock, Nev., April 29 [AP]
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Borgeson, long-time Lovelock residents were drowned today when the car in which they were riding failed to make a curve and overturned into a water-filled slough at the east end of tiwn.
Their bodies were found pinned in their submerged car which came to rest on its side in the slogh.
Borgeson, sixty-eight was a former mining man employed as a guard at the city water works. His wife, Mrs. Edna Borgeson, was forty-one.
Officials said Mrs. Borgeson apparently was dirving her husband to work at the water works, seven miles east of here when the accident occured.
A coroner's jury today returned a verdict of acidental death by drowning. Relatives of the couple have not yet been located.
Nevada State Jounral 1942 April 30, thursday page 2.
Couple Killed in car crash.

Lovelock,Nev. April 29[U.P.]
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Borgeson, Lovelock residents were killed near here today when their automobile skidded into a ditch.
Borgegson, 68, had been employed as a guard at the Lovelock water works. Mrs. Borgeson, 41, has a brother, J.J. O'Hara, at Grass Valley, California, and a sister at Sacramento.

So with that information you now have a exact date of their deaths and proof they lived in the Lovelock area. I am sure they must be buried somewhere in the Lovelock area.

Good luck in your search.
Arline
Edna Jane is a mystery. Raised in Grass Valley, California, married Charles Joseph Ahern in 1920, lived in Oakland, CA with him long enough to have two children. The first died, and after the birth of the second, a son, her husband disappeared. Before long Edna left too, apparently returning to Grass Valley but without her son. He was raised by Charles' parents and never saw his mother again. Around 1935 she married a man who seems always to have lived in Nevada, Frank Borgeson. In the 1940 Census they are living in the town of Lake, Pershing Co., NV. In 1942, they drowned in an auto accident that happened around Lovelock, Pershing County, Nevada.

According to a newspaper account of the accident, services were held in Lovelock.

We can find no marriage record for these two, no cemetery records nor death records. I'm researching this for Edna's 89 year old son, who has asked me to see if I can find records of her. (He asked Carson City for records, but none turned up.)

So if someone who has managed to get this far in my story can assist, we'd be very very grateful.

Lookup Help Needed - Reese River Reveille

Does anyone have access to this paper for about 1899-1902? I'm looking for any information about my g-g-grandfather, Edward MILTON. He is shown in the 1900 Census as living in Austin, Lander County, NV with his daughter and son-in-law, Dorcas & Daniel WIGSTEAD. After that, he vanishes - perhaps he died, or moved to somewhere else in Nevada or California to be with one of his other children.

Daniel was a Methodist-Episcopal Minister in Austin during that period. I'm hoping that was a prominent enough position so that he and his family were mentioned in the local paper's "society notes". Any help would be much appreciated!
Mary Chamberlain

Re: McKane, Schwabb

Bottom Line First: I reviewed your posted family tree first. It REALLY helps volunteers to see your tree to determine what information you have already.
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/13932421/person/21125437
The John McKane on your tree (death certificate) appears to be a person that had just arrived in New York on the Lusitania just two months before, and appears to have left his wife in Scotland. Unless you have documentation that identifies this person to be someone that mined gold with a Mr. Schwabb, there doesn't seem to be a connection. It might help for you to identify what data you do have on your John McKane. This person does not appear to have a connection to your Margaret McKane, except for both being born in Scotland.

From your posted Death Certificate: John McKane.
Date of Birth, Nov 25, 1861,
Informant: G.A. Willard, 615 Grand Ave, Oakland
Mount View, Cemetery, Oakland
James Taylor & Co, 15th & Jefferson St, Oakland.
In CA: 10 Days, in US 2 Mos.
Age 48 years, 6 months, 2 Days.

Informant: G.A. Willard, 615 Grand Ave, Oakland.
The 1910 Census for Oakland, Alameda County, CA, living at 615 Grand Ave.
George A. Willard, age 71, born in Canada to both parents born in Maine, employed in Real Estate. Married 46 years.
Charity J, wife, age 64, born in Canada, immigrated in 1859 (Naturalization status not shown. In 1910, the wife was considered to have the citizenship of the husband. That changed in 1922). She was mother of 7/6 living.
They had a 20 year old Japanese servant, George Kosuda.
--This is probably the informant on the death certificate for the John McKane identified. Do you know of a connection to this person, or to his wife, Charity, with either your John or Margaret McKane.

Burial in the Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland:
http://files.usgwarchives.net/ca/alameda/cemeteries/mtvview-...
shows born 11/25/1863[sic], died 6/15/1911, born in "Dunfermline, Scotland." Plot number 33.
--This would be a lead to contact this cemetery to see what, if any, records they may have. There "might" be information concerning John, a burial permit, possibly other data. The owner/purchaser of the grave site would be information that might lead to other information.
--Your tree identifies his birth as 11/25/1862, the Death Certificate 11/25/1861, this record 11/25/1863. Your date of death shows 16 June 1910, this record shows 15 June 1911.

The Canadian Census of 1901 for: Subdistrict of: Kootenay (West/Ouest) (Rossland Riding/division Rossland); District of Yale & Cariboo, British Columbia, Canada:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/View.jsp?id=61843&h...
shows a John McKane, born Feb 1860, age 41.
--Your information on your family tree shows this person as age 39. This person by the census does not appear to be the same person as being researched as being on that death certificate.

The New York Passenger Lists 1820 to 1957
--This person was aboard the Lusitania, sailing from Liverpool on 11 March 1911, arrival 17 March 1911 (Which would be about two months in the US if this was the person whose death certificate was identified).
John McKane, age 50 (1861), Race: Scotch, Last Permanent Residence: Scotland, Edinburgh. Name and Address of Nearest Relative: Wife, Mrs. McKain, Caledonian(?) Hotel, Edinburgh. Final Destination: New York. Whether ever before in the US: Yes, 1907 Place of Birth: Scotland, Dunfermline.

England Outbound Passengers:
J. McKane, year of birth: Unknown, departed 1906 form Liverpool, destination: Canada, Montreal. This is from a pay site.
Canadian Passenger lists for 1906 with arrival at Montreal, departure of Liverpool identified 71 arrivals, each with their own passenger lists:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/00104...

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA

My mother in law is laurie albertson. They were married in 1982 right before their first son was born, which is my brother in law. Laurie just knew about his two sons, besides their two. One he had with Sandra, who is Jeffrey's mom, and the other with Kathy, who had Jeremy. Those were the only other children John ever brought up. He never kept in touch with them.

In fact Jeff was in his 20's when he met his dad for the first time. Since my father in law wasn't very good about taking care of his children and knowing who they are, I was wondering if he ever had any children with those two women. Laurie and him sperated in 2002 after my husband graduated from high school their divorce was final in 2004, so they haven't spoken to each other since.

I've looked for information on here, but not all of the births are recorded, so I posted a message here on this message board looking for any one who might know him or one of these women.

When you post, go ahead and just post the person's name, date of birth, place of birth, whatever you have on the person. A volunteer can check records to first try to identify exactly where a person died and is possibly buried. A good background of the person might identify they were buried somewhere beyond where believed.

For example, the Social Security Death Index identifies a "last residence." It is NOT necessarily where a person actually lived. The Social Security Administration calls it simply the "home of record." It is not necessarily where any benefit was paid to the person, survivor, or the lumpsum death benefit. It is sometimes the location where the notification of death was sent to the SSA, sometimes where the lump sum death benefit was sent.

So, post the information on the person and volunteers can see what if found.

I see this is your first posting on a Rootsweb Genealogy message board. When you post, it's important to provide some basic information about the person you seek. Their date of birth is always helpful. If you don't know that, something that would give an approximate date, such as date of high school graduation, etc. Or identify parents, siblings, children.

There are probably hundreds/thousands of Steve (Steven/Stephen) Monroe. The Nevada Marriage Index shows two, that married in 2004/2005, probably not the correct person? There is a Steve Monroe, born 1946, that lived in Las Vegas in 1996. A Steve J Monroe lived there in 1993.

In Idaho, do you know where? A Steven M. born in 1947, was living in Deary, ID, in 1987 and 1993 (possibly in between those years also). A Steve L, in Lewiston, born 1951.

www.zabasearch.com shows two Steve Monroe in Idaho.

So, basically, a volunteer researcher would need more information about the person.

From a family tree owned by "elizabethcohea13"
Beverly Stephen Reynolds, died 2 July 1978 in Orange County, CA. Her mother, Virginia E. Dalzell, was born in Indiana
--Your tree:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/24508483/person/1550249172
has an approximate birth date for Virginia of 1898.

The 1930 Census of Maywood, LA County:
Beverly S. Reynolds, age 33 (1896/1897) born in Pennsylvania to father born in Massachusettes, mother in Nevada, first married age 18, engineer, railroad.
Virginia, 33(1896/1897), born in Indiana to father born in IN, mother in Ohio.
Beverly D(as transcribed), age 14
Dorothy, 9(1920/1921),
William, 6(1923/1924)

"The marriage was filed on Jan. 3, 1936..." Where? Have you obtained a copy of the certificate? It might show the names of witnesses, sometimes enough information to trace, which would help identify more information about them. As example, another person named Price, might be a brother.

On the Social Security Death Index, I ran the name "Beverly" and "1915." A Beverly Overbey, died 2 Sep 1992, "last residence" Las Vegas, Clark Co, NV. This person was born on 5 Sep 1915. Coincidence? This person's SSN was 530-22-9168, issued in Nevada 1952-1953.
--The "last residence" on the SSDI is NOT necessarily where a person actually lived. The Social Security Administration calls it simply the "home of record." It is not necessarily where any benefit was paid to the person, survivor, or the lumpsum death benefit (in 1972 was paid to anyone paying burial expenses, family member, funeral home, city/county, attorney). It is sometimes the location where the notification of death was sent to the SSA, sometimes where the lump sum death benefit was sent.
--You could learn if this is the correct person by ordering this person's application for her SSN (SS-5).
It would show her parents names:
http://www.sephardicstudies.org/records.html
To order:
https://secure.ssa.gov/apps9/eFOIA-FEWeb/internet/main.jsp

Public Records 1950-1993:
Beverly R. Overbey, born 5 Sep 1915, lived at 6216 Fargo Ave, Las Vegas. Also identified at this address was a Harry M. Overbey, born 27 Jun 1904.
--Middle initial "R," sometimes married woman use the first letter/full maiden name as their middle..

The Clark County Recorder:
A recorded document for "Affidavit Termination" recorded 9/1/1993, concerning a Harry M. Overbey and Beverly "D" Overbey...Also identified as Beverly Dalzell Overbey. This basically proves this person was Beverly D. Reynolds/Price/Overbey. I found no other records, property included.

So, at this point, you would need to obtain a copy of her obituary.

Ron Bestrom
Tacoma, WA
Marriage to Unknown 12 Sep 1985 in Carson City, Nevada. A Hubert Walter Monger, born 7 May 1918, Albany, Alameda Co, CA, died 16 Oct 1998 in Hermiston, Umatilla County, OR. He was married in 1936 to an Adeline A. Cherrington (born 5 March 1919 in Utah, died Nov 1984 in Henderson, Clark Co, NV) in Oakland, CA in 1936. They had three children (per a family tree owned by Lavinia Phillips: Lyle Anthony "Butch" MOnger, b: 8 Apr 1942 in Albany, Alameda Co, CA.
--One of your first leads would be to obtain the obituaries of Hubert and Adeline. The obits "might" identify where John/Hugh was at the time and possibly the name of his wife.

The Reno Evening Gazette, 12 oct 1943:
In the Second Judicial District Court of the State of Nevada, in and for the County of Washoe: Hugh Walter Monger Plaintiff, vs Adeline Louise Monger, Defendant. Summons: The State of Nevada Sends Greetings to the Said Defendant. You are hereby summoned to appear within te ndays after the service upon you of this summons...
--There is no proof these are the same person, but likely. It would then appear they stayed married if Hugh John was born in 1945.

Father of (From message posted on Ontario, Canada board ?)
John Hugh Monger, born Hugh John Monger, 1945, in Nevada. "kept in touch with his last two sons because my mother in law stayed married to him for 19 to 20 years." WHO is the Mother-in-law ? Have you "interviewed" her to obtain as much info as she has? He was married to "Susan Marie Hegler and Debbie Dee Eberle.

The California Birth Index shows a Hugh John Monger born 23 June 1945 in Stanislaus County, mother's maiden name Charrington.
--So, he was born in California, not Nevada.

The California Marriage Index: Hugh J. Monger, born about 1946, marriage to Sandra M. Paiva, 10 Feb 1968 in Alameda Co.
--The Reno Evening Gazette 6 March 1971
In the Second Judicial District Court... Sandra Monger, Plaintiff, vs. John Monger, Defendant.

California Divorce Index:
John H. Monger, 45(year of birth), Susan M. Hegler, 45(year of birth), 75(year married), 12/75(Preliminary Dissolution) 1(type) 01(county) 473478(case number) 151860(State file number)
--This indicates they were married in 1975 and dissolution 1975.
--This case was in Alameda County.

Nevada Marriage Index:
Debbie Dee Eberle, resident of Nevada, marriage to John H. Monger, resident of Nevada, on 24 August 1979 in Clark County.
--The CA Birth Index shows a Debra D. Eberle, born 15 April 1956 in LA County, CA, mother's maiden name: Armstron. There is NO proof this is the correct person.

While it is highly unlikely you'd find either woman in the online telephone directories, I looked anyway (I don't reference if it doesn't have the information). Their names of Hegler and Eberle were found, but no way to determine if any was the correct person. Their first name with Monger was checked. But, I would "assume" both have married since 1975.

I would suggest contact of the County Auditor Recorder in those counties of marriage and the COunty Superior Court (or Judicial District Court) to obtain a copy of the divorce decree.
