This is probably my great-grandfather who had been married to Emily Jane Parsons. He divorced her in 1884. She moved their 3 sons to Lovelock, NV. The boys were Charles Parsons (my grandfather), John Hazen, and William Irving.

They are John and Wanda Hinkey, in Tupelo, Ms...I am sure we are related somehow since there were only so many Hinkeys who came from the Motherland...Hope you are still checking, maybe this will lead you somewhere, or maybe you already have the info. Peace out!!!

Hi Ayre,

This is your aunt Rhonda, Jeffry's sister. I saw your post on this site and hope that you are doing well. The last time we saw you, you were 6 years old and my son, Louie was 3. We are going to be in Reno to visit Grandma Robin & Grandpa Robert next week. I know you were already there this summer, but I wish we could have been there the same time. I haven't talked to your dad in years, but if I hear from him, I'll tell him to call you. I hope everything is going well with you and I'm on facebook if you wanted to contact me or Louie. We love you and hope that you have an awesome summer. Rhonda, Clay, Louie & Makayla.

I was going to go the library to see if I could get microfishe (sp) of these articles. I don't know how else to get more information. I was hoping maybe someone with pictures in the are might have pictures or information about these people.

But I am going to look into the RW thing though.

Thanks for the quick response.

I'm looking for any information on H.H. McColley b. May 1833 Ohio. Died Nov 13, 1918 winnemucca, Humbolt Co. NV. Marrried in 1869 to Lucy (Leinert)in Winnemucca Creek NV. Lucy had one son from a previous marriage. William Coulter/ McColley b. 1863 d.approx 1905-1908. He had one son Herald Nixon Coulter b. approx 1900-1905.

Does any one have pictures or information on this family. They lived in several places through the years, all in Humbolt co. In Dun Glen he rented a hotel in 1862-3, built a trading post 1 mile above Winnemucca and a trading post near Camp McDermit. Lived near Alex Middleton at Willow Point at the lower end of Paradise Valley. Quin or Queens River Valley and lastly Willow Creek where he was the oldest resident when he passed away in 1918.

1866 he hearded Cattle in Winnemucca when there was only 1 house belonging to Billy Lay. He later built a ranch in Quinn River Valley and raised cattle and horses.

He spent time with a captain Payne buring the Indian troubles in 1864.

Hiram's brother William came to the area in he owned two ranches near McDermit when he died in 1905 at age 65.

He helped open a new route to Idaho and to Camp McDermit which shortened the routes by several miles to each one.

1870 the land that he bought from A.B. Cutler in 1866 is taken from him by the government and made into an indian Reservation.

1882 He sold his ranch of 1000 acres, 2000 cattle and 125 horses to Jerry Hearn for $42,000 and keeps his Willow Creek Home. On the Census he is listed as a miner/prospector.

1906 His hotel in Willow Creek burns to the ground.

I would appreciate any information on any of the people listed as part on this family. I would love to know if the Coulter family stayed in the area or what happened to Herald Nixon Coulter or an Uncle John Coulter who lived with the family in the 1880's.

I have a sticky note with some information from an obituary. The reference says from rootweb.com.

Were there obituries posted at one time that have been removed?

The one I had from the Silver State Newspaper was for William Walter SMELSER who died 4 Feb 1881 in Golconda. He the son of Isaiah and Eliza SMELSER.

This family shows up in the 1880 census as SMUSNER.

I'm going to be in the area soon. I'd like to look through records for this family surname and some more recent marriages. Where is the best place(s) to search and what are there addresses? I want to search obituaries, probate and possibly land records from about 1877 - 1910 at least. Marriages for 1951 & 1952. Are any of the localities open Saturdays?

The remainder of the original Oddfellow/Masonic cemetery is on Hwy 95 north, across the river. In 1909, land was given for a new cemetery on the west end of Winnemucca. Several times during the years following, mass disinterments & reinterments were made, some to the new cemetery, some to other areas and some were not moved at all. There are just a few marked graves left, and how many unmarked is anyone's guess. The new cemetery has approximately 12 sections, including separate sections for the IOOF and Masonic lodges. I've inventoried these cemeteries, with regular updates, and have added additional information into the database and accounted for many unmarked burials. Who is the person for whom you are looking? I would be glad to check my files.

I have been doing a lot of research in Washoe County, Storey County, and Humboldt County. The Nevada State Library keeps a microfilm archive of most all of the Nevada Newspapers and through an Inter-Library loan you can have specific rolls transfered to your local library for viewing. There is usually some transfer cost but it is worth while.

Kevin

I found this in the Nevada State Journal January 3, 1968 page 20. This is a Reno newspaper.

Father, Duaghter Back for Reunion at Orovada
Special to the Journal
Winnemucca - Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Frey of Orovada and their grandchildren received their one Christmas wish - that the family be reunited with the father of Shelley,Holly and Marshall Kirkwood, Gilbert Kirkwood, and their 5-year-old sister, Colleen.

Kirkwood and Colleen had been out of touch with the remainder of the family for several months, since after the death of the children's mother. Kirkwood, it developed, had been hospitalized in Las Vegas.
The two arrived by bus in Winnemucca just in time to arrive at the Frey's Orovada home for the hoped-for family reunion.

Hope some of this might be of help. That is all I found.
Regards, Arline in Reno

Nevada Historical Marker 105 Golconda
Golconda is a one time Utah Territory mining town whose hot springs, a landmark on the California Emigrant Trail, were of more enduring fame then its gold and silver boom.

In 1868 Golconda became an ore shipping station on the new Central Pacific Railroad. Renewed activity in 1897 resulted in the narrow-gague Golconda and Adelaide Railroad to the Adelaide mine. Golconda grew to 500 inhabitans by 1899, but the next year the mine and mill closed and railroad service ceased.

The hot springs (97 to 150 degrees fahrenheit) flowed aout 100 gallson per minute. A rare occurence of tungsten in the silica deposit of a fossil vent, one mile east, was once mined. Active vents north of the railroad tracks were the site of a famous health resort hotel which burned in 1961.

Location: Humbodt River Basin, Humboldt County, Nevada. Located on Interstate High 80 in Golconds, Nevada.

Do a google search on "Golconda and Adelaide Railroad" and you will get quite a few hits.

You could also try: www.nevadaculture.org for information and it also lists census information from 1860-1920.

Happy hunting, Arline in Reno

Anna Benson "Benzie" or "Benzy" ROBERTSON

Looking for information on the death/burial of "Benzy" ROBERTSON. According to information I recently received, she died in Minnemucca, Nevada around 1973. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Benzy, b. Dec 04, 1895, was the wife of Charles Robertson, m. May 10, 1915 in Boone County, Arkansas. After Charles' death, she left AR, going to California where we've been searching for her. Based on the information I received, she apparently left CA and went to NV in her latter years...possibly some of her children were there.(??)

I would also be interested in "talking" with any of her descendents.

Sue
in NE Arkansas
