I am looking for information on John Dempster King. He resided in Wayne Nebraska, at least circa 1900. I am unsure when he moved to Nebraska. He served in the 33rd Illinois Volunteers in the Civil War. There was a J D King, listed as an attorney in the Wayne business directory of 1890, but I have not been able to verify that this is John Dempster King. He had a daughter Blanche who married Loren McKee

One of my Antelope County relatives, Marian E. MURRAY, married a DEMPSTER and moved at unknown date to Anaheim, CA. Many of the Murray family lived in Wayne, such as Marian's uncle John Harry Murray and her grandmother, Lydia METCALF Murray. Some members were in Blaine and some in Pierce. You might try those counties for your John DEMPSTER King. Do you know how he came into the DEMPSTER name? It is unusual and snagged me as I passed.

Hi Antoinette,

Sorry, I have no idea where the Dempster came from. Other family members bore the name too, so might be a maiden or other relative's name. Of course, could equally have been in honor of John Dempster, since they were all younger than he was.

Ironically, since I posted that info, I discovered that my great grandmother was adopted. John Dempster was her adopted father, his wife Saray was her eldest sister. So I've mostly dropped my research on John Dempster King prior to his marriage to my great great aunt Sarah.

Came across your post while searching for my relatives in Nebraska. I found a John D. King in Illinois with a daughter Blanche in the 1900 Census. I am attaching the two pages. Good luck
Kevin
