I am trying to transcribe old letters in the family stash and here is one written from Melissa Murray(?) in Ft. Calhoun Nebraska to her friend Mary Alice Morris Hamilton in Ohio. I hope one of her descendants comes across this and gets pleasure out of it. I'm going to type it as it is written, because that is part of the charm and history, but I'll put the correct word in parentheses after it if it is unclear. Some of it is hard to read, and there is little punctuation:

dear friend i take my pen in hand to let you know that i am well and as (saucy?) as i can be i have the prettest babys in the world and the prettest man you ever se(e) and the best on(e) in the world.
o how often i think of old times tel your mother that i wold (would) like to see her so well and all the rest of the folks jennie was married last spring she married a man by the name of John Wambaker? he has a farm in Minnesota of a hundred and sixty acres he is a first rate fellow. from your friend
