My great grandfather Freeman Sydney Tucker and his brother Larkin moved from Illinois to Blair in the late 1870s. I see them both in Blair in the 1885 State Census. I found info on Freeman that states that for a time he, among other things, was appointed to be the Assessor, and was also the "Keeper of the poorhouse." Can anyone tell me about being the keeper of the poorhouse?
Freeman left Blair according to his bio in 1888 when he moved to Florence, But Larkin just seems to have vanished. BY 1900, Larkin's wife is living in Florence and listed as a widow, but their oldest son Freeman V. Tucker is still living in Blair. According to the Blair City Cemetery, there are several Tucker's buried there but no Larkin. Some were known ancestors and some were not.
I'm trying to find out what happened to Larkin. I'm not even sure he did die there, but that was the last place I see him alive. I don't think he died Florence but its not out of the question. What resources might be available in the way of newspaper articles, obituaries, etc, or any other documentation for that matter? Online would be preferred as I don't have a lot of discretionary funding at the moment for document searches.
I did find the article about Freeman V. Tucker's son dying after falling from a freight train. And a couple of blurbs in local history books.
Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
