Hello,

I am looking for the date and place of death for Cyrus Franklin McDowell b. 1841 or 1842 in Wolf Creek Mercer Pennslyvania. After serving in the 169th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers in the Civil War, he moved to Gordon, Sheridan County, Nebraska and married Ellen Berlin, b.July 12, 1849, Pennsylvania d. June 3, 1849 possibly Gordon, Nebraska. The last census he was in was 1920 Gordon, Sheridan , Nebraska, age 78. I have searched many places for date and place of death for both Cyrus and Ellen. Since he was a veteran of the civil war, could he be buried in a veterans cemetary somewhere? I don't know very much about that. There were also many McDowells in Dawes County including his son Milton Berlin McDowell, b. 1875, d. 1949. I am stumped. I can't find Cyrus in any Nebraska cemetary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The California death records have the Anson B McDowell died in Los Angeles County, Ca 2 Dec 1960. He was born 19 June 1871 in Pa. His mother's name was Berlin.

Have you contacted Steve North? His mother was Betty May McDowell North. She was born in 1916 and died in 2000 in Chadron, Neb. Betty was the daughter of Dr. Milton and Pearl Peacock McDowell. I believe Steve lives in Australia. You might try to contact him by "googling" "Dr Milton McDowell" or you can go to the Dawes County, Neb. message board. He is asking about Dr. McDowell in connection with a train wreck in 1921.

Perhaps Steve would know when and where Cyrus Franklin McDowell died.

By the way, Anson B. McDowell married Miss Ginevea Bresee in Gordon, Nebraska in 1902.

Thanks so much for your reply. Steve North is a friend that I am helping with his tree, so I do know him. I have all the info you have mentioned. Since I did this Sheridan County post I have learned that Cyrus sold his farm in Gordon, Ne. and he and wife Ellen "Ella" moved to Los Angeles abt. 1921 to probably be with son Anson. He is in the voter registration through 1926. Ella is living alone with a boarder in the 1930 LA census and is in the Long Beach phone book through 1936. Then the trail ends. I can't find any further info on either of them. I am going to visit a Family History Center. Maybe I can find out info about his Navy pension. I live in Lincoln, Ne. and Steve North was born and grew up in Nebraska. That is the connection.
