Spade Ranch/"Retracing Old Trails"

Hi,
Is there anyone who has a copy of "Retracing Old Trails", written by Frank O'Rourke? From what I understand, it contains the author's recollections working on the Spade Ranch in 1910. My Grandparents, Henry and Sophia CROFUTT lived and worked there about the same time and would love to know if my family name is mentioned in this book. Thank you.

Patricia Owens-OH

Hi Patricia,
I do have a copy of the book. I also have some pictures, books, etc. that would probably contain info on the Crowfutt's the time they were out here at the Spade. Thanks C.Y. Bixby

Hi,
I was able to obtain a copy of the book, thanks. Is there anything else you have that might have information on my Crofutts? Do you know if Hallowell Cemetery still exists?

Thanks.

Yes it does, there are still a few headstones still standing including a Crofutt headstone. I do believe there is info pertaining to the Crofutt family in our archives so I will see what all we have. Have you been to the location of the Crofutt homestead? If not I know the location. -Thanks

Thank you. I appreciate it. THe main reason I am asking about the cemetery is that supposedly there is a stone that reads" Henry's baby boy born and died 1910" and according to what it says on findagrave.com this baby was born without eyes. Henry was my grandfather and it's a real mystery, because we have no record of this baby's birth or death. We do however have info that they had a baby girl named Esther who was born May 27,1910 and died June 3, 1910 while they lived there. I've tried to get birth or death records for these babies, but they don't exist.
I didn't know there was a Crofutt homestead there. I live in Ohio.
Thanks

The are three Crofutt children buried in the cemetery. You are correct about the headstone, the two others have been lost in time but I know the location of the graves in the cemetery. I believe I may have info on all of the children so if you would like I can sent you what info I have. We are there owners of the Spade Ranch and have records for most of the past employees at the ranch since 1888. If their is anything else you are wondering about don't be afraid to ask.- Thanks

Do you know if the stone is still readable? Sounds like it is an abandoned cemetery. Anything you can give me on my family is appreciated. Will gladly pay for copies and your time. I did enjoy reading the book. Thank you so much.
