Mrs. Buckendahl Funeral Today

Mrs. Herman Buckendahl Sr., 79, passed away very suddenly on Monday. On Sunday she was apparently in good health and in spirits as she was about her duties in her home.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) in Zion Lutheran church with the Rev. Carl M. Steging officiating.

Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery east of Pierce with her six sons as pallbearers.

Elizabeth Herbolsheimer, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lucas Herbolsheimer, was born May 19, 1875 in Washington, Carroll County, Ia. She was confirmed on March 30, 1890 at Zion Lutheran church in Arcadia, Ia. At the age of 17 she and her parents came to Nebraska and located on a farm near where St. John's church now stands.

She was united in marriage to Herman W. Buckendahl on May 11, 1897 in St. John's Lutheran church east of Pierce by the Rev. L. Benden. They farmed in various locations near Pierce until 1927 when they moved to town, then transferred their membership to the Zion Lutheran church.

To this union 12 children were born, nine of whom are living.

They were privileged to observe their golden wedding anniversary in 1947 with an elaborate celebration at church and at home and in 1952 observed their fifty-fifth anniversary with a small family gathering at their home.

She is survived by her husband, six sons, Louie, George, Anton, Chris and Richard all of Pierce and Herman Jr. of Battle Creek and three daughters, Mrs. Luella Schulz, Mrs. George (Grace) Schulz and Mrs. Herbert (Edna) Lenz.

Also by two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hilgert, Scottsbluff and Mrs. Herman Miller, Dohinda, Sask., Canada; two brothers, Chris and Henry Herbolsheimer, Pierce; 34 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Helena and Eva and one son, William.
