Alice (SEXSON) HILL passed away at her home at Grant {Perkins County} Nebraska, last Sunday morning, November 6, after a lingering illness of nearly two years of cancer of the spine. She was seventy-one years of age.

Mrs. HILL was the daughter of John Granville and Martha (WALKER) SEXSON and was born in Center Township, Greene County, Indiana, where she resided with her parents until 1883, when her family moved to York County, Nebraska, where she lived until 1886, then moving to Perkins County in western Nebraska. She was one of the pioneer settlers of this Nebraska county and was identified with the upbuilding of this part of the state, having owned and improved several different pieces of property.

She, with her family was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and lived and practiced that true Christian fellowship, always willing and anxious to do her part for the church and in fact all those in need of help.

She leaves a husband and one son, four brothers, Joseph J.; Edgar H.; Carol Speed; and John G. SEXSON, and many other relatives and a host of friends to mourn their loss.

She visited Greene County a few years ago and renewed many acquaintances of her girlhood days in Center Township.
-
Link to the Obituary of her brother, Joseph J.
Jean. Many thanks. I found Sumner F. Keys buried near Ellsworth, Kansas.

Sumner F. (or T.) Keyes Co. D 4th Vermont Infantry. Sent to Millen, Georgia, 11/11/64.

David, looked into your query, attempting to trace Sumner Keyes and do not find burial information. The 1890 Veterans census, states Elizabeth R. Purdy as Widow of Sumner Keyes. He is most likely interred in the Madrid cemetery. Elizabeth moves on to CO, at times living with her son, and also sister, or possibly sister in law.
I was unable to find Sumner on the 1870 census. He may have been an inpatient, due to his time at Andersonville. On the 1890, he states disabilities caused by the war and being a POW. Hope someone local can help you out. Jean

I am looking for a time period that Charles and Cynthia Anderson Ferrel living in Venango, Perkins County, Nebraska and if they had any children with them. So far I have found at least three children, Cornelius, Elfie/Effie, and Grover; all born in Iowa, around 1879. The last census that I find the Ferrel family is in 1880 in New London, Henry County, Iowa. From a photo, I believe that they moved on to Lamar, Nebraska, then to Loveland, Colorado and Cynthia dies in 1941. I think Cynthia may have died in Loveland and would like to find an obit and death and burial information. Any clues to this family is appreciated.

Jody,

Your quite welcome! I never got the chance to meet Bryan personally but I have heard lots of stories from Todd about him and from what I have heard he was a brave man with a real big heart. Todd says that it is real ironic that our daughter Dayna was born on the same day that he died 2 years later almost to the exact hour. Would you happen to have one of Bryan's senior pictures? Todd says that he had one but somehow it has disappeared over the years. I would like to add a copy of it to the page with his tombstone as well as print one for Todd who by the way says 'Hi, hope all is well with you!' Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Tina

I am looking for the grave of Albert Reiser who died January 17, 1897 in Grant, Nebraska. I found this in the Keith County News but they did not have an obituary: Albert Reiser died at the home of Mrs. E. J. Johnson Sunday night, from the effects of an abcess in the throat which tended toward blood poisoning. He has been at work for some time on North River and came in last Friday for medical treatment. He had waited altogether too long to be successfully treated.

I would like to find out where he is buried. He would be my Great Uncle. Keith County does not show him in the Ogallala Cemetery and I can not find a listing for the cemeteries in Perkins County. Does the Lutheran Churches in Grant have cemeteries? He was a Lutheran.
Thank You
I am doing research on my Grandfather, the Rev. Ellis B. McLain. He was the pastor for both the Elsie and Grainton Methodist Episcopal Churches during 1926-1927. Does anyone know how far these churches were from each other? I know that my grandfather did not own a car or a horse and my mother and I were wondering what the distance was for him to travel between the two. Do either of these churches still exist? Thanks for any help.

Mary Ellen Goodin/Fletcher Newton Whips from Indiana to Nebraska

I am looking for information on the Whips family in Nebraska. I am trying to fill in the blanks I have for the children of Asa Goodin and Margaret Sellars, grandparents to Mary Ellen Goodin.

Mary Ellen Goodin was b. 30 Apr 150 in Morrow Co., Ohio. She was the daughter of Smith Goodin and Sarah Salisbury (his 1st wife). Smith was born May 27, 1819 probably in Ohio. He died in Wells County, IN on April 17, 1896 and is buried in Beech Grove Cemetery in Wells County, IN. I don't know much about Sarah, but I think she is buried in Ohio. Smith Goodin was the son of Asa Goodin and Margaret Sellers. I am decendant from Issac another son of Asa and Margaret.

Mary Ellen married Flectcher Newton Whips on September 04, 1870 in Wells County, Ne. The only other information I have for this couple follows:
+++++++
Pension Record found on ancestry.com
Fletcher N. Whips
Images Online #: 2714
State Filed: Nebraska
Widow: Mary E. Whips

Pension Application:
Filed in Nebraska
Invalid - Application # 883185; Certification # 616565
Widow - Application # 719226

- Fairview Cem. is located on SH 23 about 3/4 mile west of Grant. This list of burials was supplied by the city of Grant. No birth and death date information was provided.

Name Spouse or other notes
Whips, Fletcher Danny
Whips, Fletcher H.
Whips, Frank Newton
Whips, Jennie I. Frank N.
Whips, Mary Ellen Fletcher N.
+++++++++

I thought that Fletcher and Mary Ellen were both buried in Fairview cemetery. I wonder if the Fletcher H. listed above is really Fletcher N. Are Fletcher Danny and Frank Newton also sons of this couple. I have recently found that Fletcher and Mary Ellen had a daughter, Sarah Aidyl who married Harvey E. Stohler.

I would very muvh like to correspond with anyone having information about this family. I have a good deal of information on the Goodin family which I would be very happy to share.
Peggy Karol
Peggy,
In answer to your 23 January 2002 board message regarding cemeteries in Perkins County, NE. Three of them that I know about are 1. Madrid Cemetery, Madrid, NE; 2. Elsie Cemetery, Elsie, NE; 3. Grant Cemetery - also known as Fairview Cemetery in Grant, NE.
If you contact John Long, the funeral director, at (308) 352-4456, or write to him at P.O. Box 452, Grant, NE 69140 he can tell you names of people who keep track of who is buried where.
If you are fortunate enough to visit one of the sites in person, the Madrid and Grant cemeteries both have "Boards" near the entrance of each; the boards map and identify where graves are located.
Good luck in your search.
Hazel
The only information I have is what was on the printout.

For any additional information on burials there I would suggest writing to the Grant City Clerk, Grant, NE or the the oldest funeral home there. I believe that would be Bullock Funeral Home as they have been there for years.

I am not from Perkins county so I can't really offer you much else.

Chris

Hope you can help me with Richard and Agnes Wheeler. They were my grandparents and are buried in Grant. My father was Burl one of the twins. Thanks in advance for ANYTHING
I remember going to grandma's house in Grant she lived right across the street from the grade school there.
I am looking for decendents of any of these four families. These are the grandparents of my Grandmother Pernesa Rice Matthews who lived in Ogallala in her last part of her life, but prior to that she had been raised in the Nebr. sandhills in between Keystone and Arthur, by her parents Leland Burton Rice and Stella Alena (Wilson) Rice. I myself was raised in Ogallala and have most of the family history first hand but seem to hit a dead end in the search of my GGGrandparents.
I recently visited Nebr. and found the gravesites of these people but can't seem to come up with anymore info.
I have obits on the Rice/Ketchum but it is the Wilson/ Neely family that I can't seem to find anymore on. I know the couple had about 10 children and some of their daughter, 2 infact married McQueens which is another familiar name to me. Hoping that someone can help.

I just got this e-mail address for the Elsie, Nebraska Memory Book , try Http://www.eharbes.com/ go to Elsie, Ne. find menu on side and go to family history's Chapter 11, it has the Fred Fuhr, George Fuhr, Conrad Glunz, Fred Glunz and John Glunz stories in there. One of my father's Aunt's had a son , Joseph Martin Radel who married a Luella Glunz, think she was a daughter of Conrad. Our family knew them( the Radel's)
Shirley
