I am looking for information on Howard A. Stokes and family. Howard (or H. A. Stokes) was born around 1830 in New York. He married Charlotte Amsley in Michigan around 1862. Howard was a physician that practiced in Illinois and Nebraska. A biography of H. A. Stokes was included in Andreas’ 1882 History of the State of Nebraska in the Nuckolls County chapter.

Life made a turn for the worse after that. I find Charlotte Stokes, identified as Howard’s widow, living in Indianapolis, IN in 1889. Howard A. Stokes died in 1891, classified as insane as a patient in the Illinois Southern Hospital for the Insane, where he was buried. The death record indicated that he was divorced.

Does anyone know have anything on H A Stokes?
