Thank you! I'll send off a letter to the M.C.H.S. in Central City right away.

In the meantime, thank you for your efforts in looking at the M.C. historical books you have access to. Grandpa Sture moved to Illinois in about 1940 and that's where we are now, so it's a long way to Nebraska from here!

SWM

I'll check and see if he is in one of the two Merrick County Historical Books and if so will let you know but in the meantime you might contact the Merrick County Historical Society in Central City. Great people and very helpful. I used to have a couple of email addresses from them but they are old so won't send them.
Here's the information on the Historical Society below. Hope it helps, Gretchen

Merrick County Historical Society
211 E St
Central City, NE 68826
(308) 946-2757 or (308) 946-2867
Hello,
My grandfather, Sture Wallin of Hordville in Hamilton County, played county league baseball from about 1920-1936. He played third base and batted 'cleanup.' He may also have pitched. Photo attached is about 1925. My aunt says their home field was the one in Chapman, Nebraska. Does anyone know anything about these old county leagues, or where I could get more information, or rosters, or records, or clippings, or anything? I've looked as best I can but haven't found a thing.
Thanks,
Susan Wallin Mosey

Seeking info on Leland Doolittle who was listed as a 35 year old surgeon in the 1870 census, living in Lone Tree, Merrick County. I am trying to determine if he was the same Leland Doolittle who formed a regiment during the Civil War in upstate NY. That Leland was married first to Laverna Rawson, and second to Lou Blanchs.

Charles Layton is buried in Silver Creek Cemetery, Merrick County, Nebraska (from Find A Grave) but there is no tombstone online. According to their records he did die July 29, 1929 (not 1949)

There are 10 Layton's buried in that cemetery. I checked both Merrick County Nebraska books and could find nothing on him.

If you don't get an answer on line you might try contacting the Merrick County Historical Society in Central City to see if they have anything. Also don't forget the library in Central City to check with them.

Hope this helps a little, Gretchen

I'm sorry to report that the week of the Palmer newspaper was not recorded in the microfiche at the library. Saturday, May 22, 1909. I don't know why this would be. I haven't been able to locate Noah and Nancy in any 1870 census which should show Ordo living with them. Noah and Nancy are in 1860 Putnam Co., Mo. and in 1880 Tazewell Co., Ill. 1870 missing. They are buried in Woodford Co., Ill. Parents died before 1900 census. Sibblings Lucius, Lucion, Noah Jr., Eldo, Aldo and then Ordo. I have no idea what the parents were thinking when they named them!

Thanks!
Patricia

During his many years as a resident of Central City he was everybody's friend, and everybody was his friend. He was interested in his work but always had time to help the youngsters he came in contact with and to watch them in their play, especially in sports. His passign is a distinct loss to the community and to every parent with children attending North ward as well as their children.

Patricia,
Another suggestion for trying to find the parents of Ordo.

I think it's about $30 (at least it was) but try to get his original "Social Security Application".

It will usually give the exact date of birth, where born and his parents names.
Patricia,
You should be able to get a death certificate from the state of Nebraska.

There are 3 places I would suggest for a possible obit.
1. The Central City Library
2. The Merrick County Historical Society in Central City.
3. The Grand Island Newspaper in bordering Hall County. (I think it's the Independent).

All three have been very helpful to me in the past.
Gretchen

I saw the same two trees but I believe they have the wrong parents listed for Ordo. I'm trying to obtain an obit or his death certificate to see if the parents are listed or any sibblings named in his obit.
Patrica,
No relation but I'm a "Snoop" and when I found nothing except 1 or 2 censuses for Ordo I simply typed in the first name of Ordo in Ancestry and went to the family trees. Have a feeling that was not really his first name, or at least the one used 99% of the time when he was younger.

There were only a couple of trees for Ordo Reynolds and this seemed like the best one. It gives his parents (didn't check on grandparents), his siblings, half siblings, wife, children, etc. Below is the URL for the tree.

If you have trouble opening it contact me directly.
Gretchen
EMAIL: dddarwin@aol.com.

URL...........
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/23752404/person/1508211011?ss...=

HYPERLINK....Probably doesn't work thru this method
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/23752404/person/1508211011?ss...=

Though the 1930 census infor is goofy. There is also an Earl Clarke next door in the 1900 Census. Uriah's wife was named Marietta or Mary & had children Wayne, Beulah, Earl & Bertha. I have Uriah as born January 1, 1868 in Iowa, to George W. Clark & Rachel Roush. All of Uriah's children are born after 1901 in Nebraska.

According to family documents, she lived in a small house by herself and worked for the newspaper doing "all kinds of tasks" including proof reading and writing obituaries.
Her husband was John Horatio Lawrence, but they were seperated at the time.
She was born 7 Aug 1816 in NY and died 22 Feb 1892 at her son's home in Denver, Colo.
Thank you,
Jen

Civil War Pension records state that he died in this county Aug. 15, 1879. Before the Civil War he was living in Washington County, KS with an uncle. He and his cousin road horseback
to Des Moines to join the Union Army. Isaac was taken prisoner at the Parker's Cross Roads battle in TN. Any old
newspaper articles, cemetery records, etc. In Kansas before the war he was a Methodist. Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks for reading this. Penny
