s there someone who could please do a look-up in Volume I of the Merrick County History? I'm wanting the information on the surname FELLWOCK. This is an unusual surname, and so far, I've been able to connect nearly every instance of it. Thanks so much!

If you have connections to this family, please contact me. I have a lot of data on the family.

Actually, I am trying to find information about "Katie Fellwock", to see if she is still alive. I have an aunt (by marriage) who is in her 90s now, and Katie is (or was) a cousin, and she lost contact with her so I am trying to see if she is gone now, as she was 10 years older than my aunt. Any information would be appreciated. May aunt's maiden name is "Leytham", and she is from the Council Bluffs, Iowa area. The last she knew Katie Fellwock lived in Grand Island, and her husband's name was Raymond.

Hi,
Mrs. Raymond Fellwock was Katie Hansen, according to Amherst High School records, which list her in the class of 1926. She died in 1995, according to Social Security Death Index, last residence was Grand Island.

According to my records, they had no children.

In looking through census records, Katie was probably the dau. of George and Alice Hansen. George was born in S.D. about 1875, and Alice was b. in Iowa about 1875. They were in/near Amherst in 1920. In 1930, Alice was at Hampton, in Hamilton county-- not far from Merrick Co. Katie Hanson was teaching school in Buffalo County in 1930, her parents were born in S.D. and Iowa. In 1920 Katie was listed as "Hannah C. Hansen"; in 1930 as "Katie H. Hanson."

Hope that helps. :>
Mona

Mona, thank you so much for this information, and so quickly. I'll call my aunt this evening and share with her what I have found. Again, thank you soooo, sooo much.

Tell me a bit about yourself ... are you related to the Fellwock's somehow. Why do you do this? Are there other family names that you specifically work with, or certain areas?

Again, thanks so much! Have a wonderful day!

Hi VerbalPearl,

FELLWOCK is one of my surnames of interest. First, it's a rare name; three brothers came to the US, and 2 of them married SASSE, a direct-ancestral name -- so, most of the US FELLWOCKs are related to me. Both of those families, along with OERTWIG, came from the same village in Brandenburg, Prussia, and have intermarried a lot there and in the US.
I also host the USGenWeb pages for Buffalo County, Nebraska, where my ancestors have lived for over 100 years.

My complete database, which contains a lot of non-related people, is at WorldConnect
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=monahouse...
and my own family genealogy website is at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~monajo/

I'm glad I could answer your question about Katie. In fact, your question prompted me to dig a little deeper, so I thank you.

Meadowlark,

From what you have told me here, you must be related to my aunt then, assuming this is the one she is looking, which I am pretty sure is correct. The names are right, and so is the information about her being a teacher. She is a Leytham. She was married to my father's brother (Lyle Larson). On my father's side ... my roots are Crescent, and Underwood, Iowa. I am my father's (Raymond Larson) only daughter, and he had only one brother (they are both gone now). The names being Larson (tho we're Danish, not Swedish), Dutrow, Meneray and Smith (what I've been able to hone in to so far). I have more Larson information than I have mentioned here, but just wanted to give you a bit of background so you can understand how you and my Aunt Alta might be related.

As for Buffalo County, you may be able to help me in another way then. I used to live here in Kearney over 25 years ago, and now am back living here again. My family roots are Sumner, Eddyvile, Miller and Kearney ... on the maternal side. The names include Spellmeyer (Mom's maiden name), Barnebey (or Barneby, I've seen both spellings) Line, Simmons, and Warren (as far as I have found so far). I have been told stories about my grandparents (or maybe great grandparents) had the very first hotel here in Kearney. I have a photo of my Grandma when she was young standing by a beautiful piano, and don't know where it was taken. I have met a man here in Kearney who's great-grandfather and my grandfather were brothers, and I understand they they were from a family of something like 15 or 18 children (some which died quite young). This man is a Simmons, my grandfather was a Spellmeyer.

What a tangled web we weave, when looking generations back. I'm excited to have made some contacts to be able to trace my family tree, especially since I am the end of the line (although I do have a daughter and grandson, no sons). She is not too much interested in my side of the family but perhaps that will change since she is a mother now. Time will tell.

If you would like to email me direct, use the name here at Yahoo.

You are a very interesting person, and it looks as though we may be related, by marriage ... smiles.

Have a wonderful day!

Nancy
