Received your request regarding Robert and Mary Burkhalter and could find Mary's Obit. However the microfilm at the Goodall Library only goes to the year 2000 and Roberts could not be located there. It is possible that you could contact the Keith County News and request a copy of the obituary since you know the date of death. The mailing address is Keith County News 116 W A St. Ogallala, NE 69153 or phone (308) 284-4046. Mary's obituary was found in the Wednesday, December 14, 1994 edition of the Keith County news. I could mail you the obituary if I had a mailing address or with a e-mail address I could send it as an attachment. However I will see if I can send the obituary as an attachment with this reply.

RE: John C. Riedel.. we find that the Ogallala cemetery has 3 Riedels listed as buried there. Those being Jessie J. Riedel..Dec. 07, 1984, Martin Riedel..Feb. 12, 1985, and Virgil Riedel..March 19, 1975. All three have obituaries printed in the Keith County News and available on the Goodall City Library microfilm. However nothing found regarding John C. and wife Lydia mentioned in the obituaries of the Keith County News on the dates listed on your posted reply by Jean. Martin, according to the obituaries was a brother of John C Riedel Jessie was Martin's wife and Virgil was a son who died at age 48, in 1975. Martin and Jessie also have two other children,Harold who is my neighbor passed away last month. A daughter is still in the area and maybe could help you out on your quest. The Reidels were early settlers in the area southeast of Ogallala and were charter members of the St. John's Lutheran Church in that area. Probably the curch would have some information regarding the family. The obituaries that are on the microfilm can be printed and sent to you if interested.

I am the great, great grandson of George Clark (his daughter, Margaret Ann Clark Randall is my great grandmother, and her daughter, Katherine Randall Burt is my grandmother) . I have done some genealogical research and have information about the family, including pictures of him and his wife, Lucinda Jane Tripp Clark. There are other items, including a magazine article about the battle of Beecher Island and a very colorful descriptive transcript of a recollection of him by his daughter Mary Clark Baer.

I really appreciated finding the obituaries for both him and Lucinda Jane. They added to my growing cache of material.

Lester Duncan Hollaway (sometimes spelled Holloway)
who was born on March 27, 1887, in Keystone, Keith
County, Nebraska, of parents David Peter Hollaway and
Susan Evelyn (Stanley) Hollaway. The family later
moved to Ogallala.

I saw reference on a web site to the Keystone
Memories booklet by Lorna Wendt in 1975, and was
pleased that inquiries were encouraged . David and Susan
Holloway are both listed in the Surname Index.

Anything provided on my ancestors will be much
appreciated, be it material in the booklet, pointers
to other sources, or whatever.

I am looking for any information on my grandfather's sisters, Delia SCOTT and Kate/Catherine SCOTT, daughters of James and Sarah SCOTT.

Delia: born 1869 Ireland. Emigrated to US 1881. Moved to Brule, Keith County, NE 1885. Married Charles EMERSON in Brule or Ogallala between 1900 and 1916. Moved to Palisade, Hitchcock County, NE sometime before 1932.

Kate: born 1871 Ireland. Emigrated to US 1881. Moved to Brule, Keith County, NE 1885. Married Mr. DOSS in Brule or Ogallala, before 1916 and moved to Denver, CO before 1916.

Can anyone provide any information on any of these people?

George's son, Claud, was my great-grandfather. Claud married Gladus Mildred Meister on Sep 8, 1931. They had six children, one of whom was Betty Ellen Clark, my Grandmother. She had a daughter, Kathy Prock, my mother.

Hi I am searching the Matthews family too, my family is
from Virginia. Although I don't live in Ogallala anymore
family ties brings us back there at least once a year. Every time I am there I search old records and go to the
Library to check the local paper archives. I thought you might be interested in an artical that I found on your Matthews family.
I am not sure what year the bi-cential was but in honor of it they interview all the old pioneer families in that area. This article was found in the early part of my searching and I didn't know if that Mathews family had ties with mine or not so I kept it, but now I know it doesn't I would be happy to send it to you.

I find Private Benjamin G. Mathews, SR, died Sep. 23, 1939, age 94, buried Ogallala Cemetery, Keith co.,NE Lot 4, section 84A. Enlisted into Co. G. 4th KY CAV. on Sep. 3, 1863 and discharged May 2, 1865. No disabilities listed in 1890 due to his service.

Hi! This may be related to the search for Samuel Black. I'm looking for Clarence E. Black born by 1880 and married by Sept 1910 approx. He would have been living in Brule, Keith, NE. Supposedly his wife was dying of TB and she would likely have passed away sometime before 1913. They would have had at least two daughters Marvel Rose b. June 24, 1911 and Anna Margaret b. Oct. 11, 1912. Any information would be very appreciated!

July 5, 1898

George Clark, a veteran Union soldier who has been sick at the hospital in this city for some time died last night at 6 o’clock, and was buried at 10 o’clock this forenoon.

During the civil war the deceased served as a private on the Indian frontier in Co. G Seventh Iowa Volunteer cavalry. His wife died about two years ago in a hospital at Omaha. He leaves two brothers residing near Central city and two sisters, one living at St. Paul and the other one in Cobtown. He also leaves ten children, six are grown and partially grown, and are away from home in various states doing for themselves. The other four are little ones, two boys and two girls, ranging from 3 to 11 years old who were with him here, and they are left absolutely destitute and helpless, without any one to take care of them unless some of the sisters and brothers will take them.

George Clark drew a pension of $22 per month, and an effort will likely be made to have a guardian appointed with the view to having a pension allowed the children for their support.

The life of the deceased was such a wreck as should serve a warning to others not to follow in its path, The little ones left upon the cold charities of the world are to be sincerely pitied, and it is hoped they may fall into considerate, merciful and humane hands.

None of the relatives except the three little children were at the funeral.

I am trying to locate members of the Dopheide and Scharfenkamp families. Herman Dopheide and Bernardina (Stallman) Dopheide had the following children: Henry B, Theodore, Clara (married John Friedman), Anne (married Clem Polking), Edward B, Frances (married Paul Miller), George(married Bertha Clark), Elizabeth, John (married Agnes Hess), Irene, Teresa, Marie (married William O'Connor) and Johanna (married Hugh Watkins).
Herman Scharfenkamp and Cecilia (Kerkhoff) Scharfenkamp had the following children: Paul (married Verna Soukup), Ruth (married Dennis Green), Lyle (married June Dale), Ralph (married Angie Malerik), Fern (married Dean Paschke), Opal (married Jerry Mallechek sp?) and Dale (married Ann Zennil).
These families lived in/around Templeton or Carroll, Iowa. I also have evidence of a Dopheide family living in Keith County, Nebraska. Any info (birthdates, deathdates, gravestone markers, census records, contact info, etc.) that could help me would be greatly appreicated!!

Madrid-Ogallala?

I have an obit for a John Wilson who died in 1935. It states he was buried in a family plot at Madrid and it was printed in the newspaper Keith County News, Ogallala.
Does anyone know about this cemetery?

Rites held for Helen Rasgorshek

Mass of Christian Burial for Helen Rasgorshek, 87, was held Wednesday morning, May 28, 1997, at St. Luke's Catholic Church with Father John Schlaf as celebrant. Graveside services were held later Wednesday morning at the Kimball Cemetery with Father Francis Curran of St. Joseph's Catholic Church officiating. Mrs. Rasgorshek died Monday morning, May 26, at Indian Hills Manor Nursing Home in Ogallala. Helen Atteberry was born Sept. 9, 1909, at Grand Island. Following her high school graduation, she worked in California and Nebraska before moving to Kimball to make her home. On May 14, 1963, she married Fred A. Ransgorshek. Mr. and Mrs. Rosgorshek farmed near Kimball until 1974 when they retired to Ogallala. Mrs. Rasgorshek was a member of St Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. Survivors include two step-sons, Robert A. Rasgorshek of Kimball and James A Rasgorshek of Crete, Neb; one steip-dauaghter, Mary L Marcum of Garden Grove, Calif; seven grand children and three great- grandchildren. Gubser Funeral Home of Ogallala was in charge of arrangements.

SERVICES HELD FOR GRACE EASTBURN, 79, RESIDENT SINCE 1930

Funeral services for Mrs. William P. Eastburn, 210 West Eithth St., were held this morning in the Methodist church. The Rev. D. E. Littrell, pastor, conducted the rites with interment in the Ogallala cemetery. Mrs. Eastburn, 79, died Thursday evening at the Ogallala Community hospital, where she was under treatment for a respiratory ailment. She long had suffered from an asthmatic condition. A resident of Ogallala since 1930, Mrs. Eastburn enjoyed a wide circle of friends, took an active interest in church affairs so long as health permitted, and was well known in her earlier years as an accomplished seamstress. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilham Phillips, Grace Beatrice Eastburn was born at Blakensburg, Ia, on Jan, 30, 1884. When she was 17 years of age, the family moved to Petersburg, Nebr., where she married Mr. Eastburn on Oct. 21, 1903. They made their first home on a farm near Petersburg, moved to the Elgin community in 1908 and came to Ogallala in September of 1930. Mr. Eastburn operated a dray line for many years, retiring in 1955.

Surviving Mrs. Eastburn are her husband, two sons, Claude of Julesburg, Colo. and Glen of Sheridan, Ore., two daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Mullen, Sturgis S. D. and Mrs. Bonita Goll, Westminster, Colo.: also 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, three brothers, Loren, Norman and Donald Phillips, all of Billings, Mont. And a sister, Mrs Vivian Carlsen, Long Beach, Calif. A daughter, Blanche Miriam, died in childhood. Draucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
