Census information is available online from Ancestry.com or HeritageQuest.com. Sometimes you can use these databases for free with a library card from your local library.

For homesteading information, go the NE State Historical Society website, click on Research, then Catalogs and Databases, then NE US General Land Office Tract Books to get names and land descriptions. With this information, you can order a land entry file from the National Archives.

I am looking for the census information on Hayes County Homesteading in the 1880s and 90s. Does anyone know where this information could be found without having to go the the court house or State Historical Society and compliling it on my own?

Our family is having a reunion in Hayes Center in 2010 and I am trying to do some research. Both my grandparents homesteaded during that time, Fielding and Rice, in Hayes County.

Thanks for the help.

Clarence Hewitt - need cemetery lookup

In the 1930 census Clarence Hewitt is living in Highland, Hayes, NE. He married Anne Elizabeth Cunningham abt 1925. They had 9 children that I know of. Names are Frederick, Boyd, Harold, Stanley, Eugene, Gary, Don, Neldon and Sharon. I have his DOD as May 1962. Wondering if someone could do a cemetery lookup and see if he's buried somewhere in Hayes County. I've tried doing that online but haven't found the info. Anything else someone finds would also be appreciated.
Thanks, Mary

I am trying to find a former Nebraska town. It was a small town by the name of White. My grandfather served a vicarage at a Lutheran church in White in 1923. It apparently was approximately 15 miles south of Wellfleet but I have not found it on any maps. It probably was in either Hayes or Frontier Counties.

Hi
I am trying to find an obit or death record for my GG Grandmother OLIVIA JOSEPHINE GRESS. She died December 10, 1922 but I don't know where!! The last place I found them was in Fairfield, Hayes Co. But they had lived all over the place (Nuckolls Co., Buffalo Co., Hitchcock Co., Lincoln Co.) Her husband was John W Gress a circuit preacher. She was born January 4, 1852 in West Virginia to Andrew J Tucker and Harriet Turner. I sent for records to Lincoln Co, and Nuckolls Co. I even sent for a death record search in Hayes co. but no luck.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Sincerely
Tracy Critchfield

Estes, listed as a landowner in Fairfield Precint of Hayes County in the 1907 index I have.

This area is clear on the north side of Hayes County and their land is almost to the Lincoln County border so you might also want to check out Lincoln County, they might of also had land or other court records there.

Have 2 of the obits and part of the third. The paper of 1902 is in very poor condition and I could only get part of the obit. Will look for a better paper to see if I can get the whole thing.

Joan

George Long was sheriff from 1902 to 1905, according to an old plat map I have he owned land in Swan Lake precinct, section 36 which is the very southeast corner of this precinct. He also owned land in Hopewell precinct section 6. this would be the very northwest corner of this precinct. He may be listed as a person who purchased the 1907 atlas (Long, George W., Farmer, S. 6, T. Hopewell, P.O. Palisade, 1892.) would assume he had been there since 1892.

From what I can see there are possibly two George W. Longs here so be careful. There is one buried in Palisade 1896-1960. This is my uncles dad and I don't think this is the right one.

I am looking for information on the Neider surname. My great grandfather Joseph Neider was found on the 1920 Census living with his son, Wilder C. Neider in Hayes County, Concord Prencinct, Nebraska. Joseph is not listed with the family in the 1930 census where I found Wilder and his family in Hayes County, Fairfield Precinct, Nebraska. I think he may have died between 1920 and 1930. In 1920 he lists his age as 64. I would appreciate any information on the Neider surname.
