Seek death and burial of Angeline. I suspect she died in Harlan County, probably in Washington Township, in or about 1881.

She was born in Ohio, probably Richland County, in 1859. She married Jacob Strome in Richland County OH on 1 Feb 1877. They moved to Harlan County NE that year or in 1878. Their son James Harry Strome was born in Harlan County on 18 May 1878. The family appears on the 1880 national census in Washington Township in Harlan County.

Her husband Jacob Strome remarried between 1882 and 1884 and appears on the 1885 Nebraska census in Harlan County with his second wife Carrie Hill.

Tom Ross
San Diego CA
direct email: tross666@san.rr.com

Seek death and burial of Jonas and Mary. I suspect that they died between 1880 and 1885 in Harlan County, possibly in Washington Township.

Jonas was born in Lebanon County PA in 1828. He moved to Richland County OH in or about 1838 with his parents. He married Mary Ann Thuma in Richland County OH on 4 Mar 1852. They moved to Harlan County NE in or about 1877 with son Jacob and wife Angeline. They settled in Washington Township. They appear on the 1880 national census in Washington Township. They do not appear on the 1885 Nebraska census.

Mary Ann was born in OH, probably in Richland County, in 1834.

Tom Ross
San Diego CA
direct email: tross666@san.rr.com

I think that I found our connection. Frederick Scippert's grandfather is my gggg grandfather. So far everything seems to fit. That makes you my 5'th cousin once removed (if I have your generation correct).
I see that there are other cousins in the mid-west also. My great grandfather married Caroline Schippert. His uncles had already came to the U.S. earlier in the 1800s and landed in Luzerne county PA and then moved to Ohio, Iowa, Kansas ect.. Most if not all of the Bachers out there are my relatives. Since the Schipperts and the Bachers are from the same town in Germany, they may have come over and kept in touch here, at least for awhile. You can find my tree at rootsweb. Search for the Robert Bacher with the Karoline Schippert mother.

The publishing company is called Wilmont Ventures and has the same address as Marlene Wilmont's address.

Ms Wilmont has written several books on the subject of the 1935 flood, having interviewed many many people perhaps she would have some informaiton on your family. I have one of her books entitled from Bluff to Bluff. I find no mention of the Lacy family in this copy but I know there is a 2nd book and I do not have a copy of it.
I hope this information will be helpful. Let me know if it was.
J. Olson
suggest: Harlan county and Orleans, NE history

It must be really small :) I was born in the hospital in Orleans and it was a few rooms above the hardware store. The main street is about 3-4 blocks long if that. You can go to USGenweb.org and look up NB, Harlan County, and Orleans. They have a history and some pictures there. Let me know if you find it.

ldy2stp@hotmail.com
Gayle

C. M. Damon, "Sketches and Incidents" historical PDF file

HI!

I DID find a lot of information and things began to click. I have a family history in Free Methodism, graduated myself from Seattle Pacific, a Free Methodist University.

Orleans College was known also as Orleans Seminary. It was founded by C. M. Damon, a notable Kansas/Nebraska pioneer preacher and revivalist. It struggled until 1915 when it was moved to McPherson, KS and became Central College. I actually have family that attended there.

Damon wrote a fairly notable book for it's time (within Evangelical circles) titled "Sketches and Incidents". It describes this period.

Here's theURL::
http://wesley.nnu.edu/wesleyctr/books/0201-0300/HDM0284.PDF

Dave Nichols
