Jasper Beckwith died at this residence in Willow Springs
precint, this county of Garfield on Sunday Feb 18,1900 at
5 pm. Jasper Beckwith aged 81 years 11 months and 18 days.
Mr Beckwith had not been well for sometime but had not
been confined to bed. On Sunday he had had visitors and had
entertained them as usual, seeming to be well as usual.
At about five in the evening he complained of a pain in his face, and he started toward his bed but fell dead before reaching it.
The deceased was born in Steuben co., New York on
Feb 28,1818. On Jan 27,1839 he was married to Miss Emma
Johnson of Tompkins co., New York, who shared his joys
and his sorrows from that day until death seperated her
from her companion. Twelve children were the fruits of the
marriage, nine of whom are still living. Mr L Beckwith, a son
and Mrs Smith White a daughter, residing in this vicinity.
Mr Beckwith came to this county about 16 years ago
residing until a few years ago on the farm now occupied
by Thomas Garrison. After selling that place he moved to the
Place in WillowSprings where he was when death claimed him.
He had however sold the place and had taken a homestead
on the Loup near his daughter's Mrs White,s residence.
He was preparing to move there. He was an obliging neighbor,
energetic, honest and withall a good citizen. He united in the
Baptist church in 1847. The funeral services were held
Tuesday, Rev. Webster officiating and the remains were laid to
rest in the Burwell cemetery (COTTONWOOD )

Card of Thanks dated March 1, 1900
We wish to thank our many friends for their kindly assistance
in the death and burial of our dear husband and father.
May the blessings of God be theirs.
Mrs Emma Beckwith and children

I am trying to prove a relationship between My Alfred Beckwith b.(ca.1804 N.Y.) and Your Jasper Beckwith.
My Alfred and Your Jasper were in Dix, Chemung Co., NY. in I 1840 US Census page 245.
I was under the impression that Jaspers and Alfreds parents may be Joseph Beckwith and Lucinda Matthews.
Were Jasper and Alfred brothers? Who were their parents?
Did Jasper come to US from another country?

I am excited about finding this post!!

Please respond to me at Orpha grb3945@aol.com

How are you related to Beckwith? My ggrandfather was Squire Beckwith, married Jennie Pratt, my grandmother was Clara Beckwith who married Franklin Fisher. Do you know why Jasper went to Nebraska? We are looking for a link to Native American blood.

Your post is rather old. I am new to the Beckwith line. My husband's g-g-grandmother was Emily Mariah Beckwith. She was the 3rd wife of Alexander B. Faith. Emily's father is mentioned as Jasper Beckwith & Irma Johnson. Irma is rumored to be full blood Onieda Indian from Covington Co. New York. This is where Emily was born. I have pictures of her. You can really see the Indian features in her face. Have stories to share which originated with other decendants in Vernon Coo. WI.

Orpha, I have corresponded with you before but at the time I did not have much information on my Beckwith line. I have tried your supplied email address and comes back undeliverable.
