I ran across an old post you placed on Ancestry.com back in August 2003. You have probably found the information you were looking for about the
Armstrong store in
Haigler, NE, but thought I’d send you a note anyway about some information I found in the “Haigler 1976 Bi-Centennial” book that I have.
I am from
Haigler and remember my dad talking about Billy
Armstrong, but can’t remember any specifics.

The following quotes were found:
Printed 1976
In an article written by Mrs. John
Roach on page 32
“In the early days M. M. Chase & Son put in a store. It afterwords was Allen & Mercer’s and changed hands at least twice more then Jas. Grady, Armstrong’s,
Armstrong &
Wentz, Armstrong’s and now McKinney’s.”

“Mr. and Mrs. E. O. McKinney have been in business here since 1933 when they bought the stock of merchandise and business from the L. B. Armstrong estate.”

“L. B. Armstrong, one of the first citizens of
Haigler passed away in November, 1932.” (taken from an article “History of
Haigler – 1926 to 1937, written by Florence

“Billy
Armstrong lived in a house where Mark
McVey has his mobile home. Billy told Dad when he was nine years old his step-mother sent him after a bucket of water. But instead Billy got on his horse and left home. He rode with cowboys on the range for years before coming to
Haigler. In
Haigler he had a saloon and later a mercantile store. He always carried a basket on one arm covered with a cloth. He revealed to Dad one day the contents of his basket included a six-shooter. Billy made his fortune as a businessman in Haigler.” (taken from an article “ADAMS, Stories by
Emmons as told to JoAnn Webster”)

On Page 103 there is a picture of the
Armstrong Store. I have scanned it and can send it if you want it.
