I did try Google, but thanks for the tip! I google everyone I research and try everything I can think of (george p. ewing; george ewing; ewing; george p.; ewing, george, etc.). I've found a few bits of info here and there about him, but nothing that has been really helpful in terms of where he is buried. I've got census records, military records... Google is definitely a great resource!

Looking to find a death date and burial place for George P. Ewing, as well as the names of his six children who predeceased him.

George was born to Matthew and Sarah Ewing in Trenton, Oneida County, NY on February 17, 1844. He enlisted in Co. G of the 108th NY Volunteer Infantry in 1862, and was mustered out in 1865. In 1879, George moved from Rochester, NY to Chappell, Nebraska. He married a widow, Anna Shove, who had two children named Maude and Louis Shove. George and Anna had six children together. Anna Shove Ewing died in Chappell, NE.

I found a possible match for George Ewing in the Chappell, NE 1910 federal census, although his birth month and birth year are off. Hoping someone can tell me his death date and place of burial. Thanks!

I am trying to find information on a woman named Mabel. I do not know her maiden name. She was born 1911 most likely in Wisconsin, possibly Washington County, WI. I also do not know her nationality or who her parents were. She married a man named Anton Lehn (b. 1902) They lived in Washington County, WI area. I believe at one point may have lived in West Bend, WI, or that area. Anton & Mabel had 7 or 8 children - 4 boys, 4 girls. They then divorced. Mabel may have remarried and had more children - (yikes!) I know I do not have much to go on here; if anyone can make some sense of this or piece something together I would be extremely appreciative. Thank you for taking the time to read this mess!

I found a listing for a Charley Anderson living in Chappell in this Business Gazetteer for Farmers in the 1890 edition. Looking for any other publication/document that might provide more information on this person. I have a "lost" relative with the name of Charley Anderson and his brother was living in Chappell and listed in the same Gazetteer. Still not sure if right guy. Where can I find original land grant information for homesteads in the area?

At least a part of my family (the A. J. Anderson Family) came to Duel County in about 1885 from York, Nebraska. There is a "lost" brother to A. J. Anderson, his name is "Charlie" or "Charly" -- but may have been a nickname or such. He was originally Carl August and probably changed his name at the time of immigration... I am not even sure he came to Duel County. Just wondering if anyone finds that name familiar! If so, please let me know.

She took care of my father and his brother while my gfather worked. They all moved to Hastings, Adams Co, NE shortly after as they are listed in the Hastings City Directory for 1920.
Thanks for your response. I have not been searching the Krumm family, just in relation to a Schmidt family. So I do not have hardly any information on them. The Krumm family that I did look for were in Lancaster County, Nebraska before moving on.

Thanks again, though for sending your info, never know what information will be just what someone else needs.

Anita

KRUMM family in Deuel County, NE - abt 1920 to 1952

Hello,

I am tracing the descendants of Christoph Schmidt (b. 1849, Iowa, d. 19??, Nebraska) and have traced one of his daughters, Sarah Louise Schmidt who married Frederick W. Krumm, to Swan Precinct, Deuel County, Nebraska circa 1920.
I believe Sarah passed away on about 7 July 1941 in Deuel County, and I believe that Fred Krumm passed away on about 30 May 1952 also in Deuel County.

They had at least two daughters, Opal (b. 1912?) and Pearl (b. 1914) who moved with them from Lancaster County to Deuel County. I am currently unable to find any traces of Opal or Pearl after about 1930 in Swan Precinct, Deuel County, NE.

If anyone has information to share I would be delighted. I have a considerable amount of information regarding their grandfather, Christoph, and his wife, Sophia. I have far more information on Chris' brothers (John, Fred, Henry, J.B., and Conrad Wolfgang) and sisters (Anna Barbara and Amelia) and their parents, Fred, Sr. and Anna Katherina and other descendants. (Plus a tiny bit of information on Fred Krumm's parents, Michael and Augusta (Golz) Krumm.

Thank you.

I am positive that there was/is a Killgore family in Big Springs, Nebraska. My mother's maiden name was Mary Wear, and I know her best friend was Jane Killgore. They graduated from High School together in about 1952.

My mother passed away in 1991 and my grandmother passed away this past June, but maybe my Aunt might have some more information.
I know it is a common name but is this the same one who married Fannie DeLong 12 December 1900? Or perhaps is it his son Frank who married Gladys Pauline Roper in 1926? I have some information on their lineage. I am related to them.

ADOLPH & OSCAR ANDERSON--FRANK LINDSTROM

Surname: Anderson
DATE: Dec 27 2000

QRYTEXT: I am looking for any information on this family. I know that some of the family went to California and that Adolph, father of Oscar and Oscar both died in Merced County, after farming for years in Hilmar California. Marraiges performed in Nebraska would be particularly useful.

Adolph Anderson was a farmer in Deuel Cnty, Neb and can be found on the 1900 census for the county at EU 98, page 3, line 26. His son Oscar appears at page 4, line 21.

My query relates to the nephew Frank Lindstrom listed with Adolph (is it his nephew or his wife's - who were Franks parents) and a similar concern regarding Julia Lunaberg listed as a "sister-in-law" with Oscar (was Julia
married to one of the Andersons or a sister to one of the Andersons wives?)

A second puzzle regarding Julia, she has 4 of her 4 children living, but none are listed as living with her. Where are they?

If you have any marraige records dealing with the Anderson's of Deuel Cnty prior to 1900 I would appreciate hearing from you or one of your associates.

A grandson of Oscar married my wife's sister. I would gladly share all the information I have regarding the Anderson and Boesen families.

Mildred and Earl died when they were young. Gladys married a George Phelps in Julesburg CO. and later lived in Big Springs. Theodore married Dorothy Paulsen and lived in Ogallala. Ardis married Jack Lauer in Big Springs and lived in Chicago Ill. Ralph married Helen Aufrecht in Big Springs and I don't know what happened to them from there. All the children attended school in Big Springs and I have some pictures of a Minnie Hatterman and some other Hatterman girls so I think they might have been class mates. Thompson was one of the original stockholders when the first court house was built around 1888. I didn't find a record of any Clarkes but there is a Melvin Lelend Clark who came from Pottawattamie County, IA in 1925 to settle on a farm northeast of Chappell. Albert Ross is listed as an early day county commissioner.

The Deuel County history book has a very interesting article about the Grasz family. They first came to Deuel Co in 1888 from Kramer, Ne. Frederick (son of Christopoher and Elizabeth Grasz, born Dec. 14, 1843 in Prussia)was married to Wilhelmina Wilhelm(born Sept 8,1844 in Amsterdam, Holland). They were the parents of 12 children. In 1909 they moved back to Kramer, Ne. After the father's death on July 2, 1900 in Lincoln County a son Ben returned to Big Springs to farm. The mother, Minnie also came back to Deuel country and lived with her son until her death on Oct. 11, 1921. Several of the grandchildren still reside in Deuel County.

Looking for descendants/relatives of Florence L. ANDERSON (Mrs. Arthur ANDERSON) and her sister, Hilda CAMPBELL (Mrs. James CAMPBELL), both of Chappell, Deuel County NE. Florence was b. 11 Feb 1900 in NE and d. 14 Dec 1982. Arthur (born 1889) d. 24 Sept 1956. They are buried in Berea Lutheran Cemetery in Deuel County. Death dates and burial places for Hilda and James Campbell are unknown. In 1979, according to a letter we received from Florence, Hilda Campbell had at least 3 children including a daughter, Velma, and perhaps a son, Wayne, both living in or near Chappell at that time. Florence and Hilda also had a sister, Esther Johnson, who lived in York, NE.

The grandparents of Florence, Hilda and Esther were Carl/Charles Johnson and Selma Christine (Vik) Johnson, who came from Sweden and settled in Mercer County IL. They were also my husband's great-grandparents. We would like to share family information with any relatives that we can find. Any clues will be appreciated.

My request for a look-up is for a Louis Rivers, and his wife, Minnie Rivers. Our last reference to Louis and Minnie Rivers, appears on the 1910 Federal Census for Lost Creek Presinct, Deuel County. Minnie had also been listed on the 1900 Census for the same place. Approximate birth dates for Louis is 1830 to 1835 in Canada and Minnie about 1840 in Indiana.

Louis Rivers was the founder of our city, Marshfield, Wisconsin. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. It will help complete a chapter in our local history.

Heidi, I think I may have already respnded to this message to Aavid A. Gehrke, but I don't remember. Anyway, I just found this again and thought I should let you know that David (my brother) passed away February 20, 2001.

The information that you supplied does not seem to fit our Wilhelmina (born Luss) Gehrke. Her maiden name was Luss. Her children were: Charles, Albert, Julius, August (our ggrandfather), and Bertha.

She was born about 1828 & died about 1893. We think she and her husband (August Fredrick) were both from Pommern (Pommerania, Prussia). As far as we can thell, they immigrated about 1858 or 1859.

I don't know where in Pommern they were from.

Thanks, Irene

Lewis W. Vance

In the 1920 federal census for Deuel County in the BIg Springs image #6 of 24, I found the names of Lewis W. Vance and his wife Mary. He was listed as 58 and she as 55 years of age. When I looked for the Deuel County 1930 Nebraska census I couldn't find Deuel County on the list of counties. This Lewis Vance was probably my father's cousin, as his cousin's wife was Mary E. Walter. They lived in Osborne County, KS when they were married in 1882. Lewis had a brother, Willard who lived in Garden County, NE at that time. Do you have any other record of this above named Lewis Vance, such as a county history or obituary etc.? Thank you for any help you can give me. Eunice Vance Spackman. eunice@fiberpipe.net.

I am researching the family of Edward Dennis & Kittie Darlene (Mosher) Wilber. My notes say that Kittie Darlene died (no date available) in Big Springs, NE. She & Edward were married in Buda, Bureau Co., IL 10/19/1898) and moved to NE. One of their daughters, Ruth (no dob) married John Pocock before 1922 (when their first daughter, Ada Ruth was born). John Pocock MAY be the s/o Glenn E. & Ada Blanch Albright Pocock who farmed in the Silver Creek/Prairie Creek areas of Nance & Merrick Co, NE. I don't know yet if this John Pocock is the one who married Ruth Wilber. Siblings of Ruth Wilber were Clara, Grace, Theodore, Stephen, Charles Merrill, Doris ... again from unconfirmed notes. Children of Ruth and John Pocock were: Ada Ruth (b. 1922, m. Robert Bennett), John/Jack (b. 1924, m. Betty ??), Virginia (b. 1925, m. ?? Pape), Treva (b. 1928?, m. Charles Cunningham III), Evelyn (b. 1929, m. Kenneth Honstein), Betty (b. 1931, m. Joseph Engle ... also from unconfirmed notes. A number of the Pocock children ended up in the Greeley, CO area by the 1940-50s. If anyone has information about this family group, please contact me directly at my email address...thanks. K. B.
My great grandfather Peter Stutzman (8/5/1858-7/2/1927) lived in Deuel County. He migrated from Walnut Creek, Ohio and later died in Wood River, Ne. His son Daniel (9/14/1888-5/7/1949),my grandfather, married Rena Stutzman (yes her Maiden name)of Milford, Ne. They lived in Wood River until during the great depression they literally lost the farm and moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where my mother, Mary Stutzman King, lives today.

Peter Stutzman was the son of Christian Stutzman and Elizabeth Mast.

I do not know any of my grandfather's siblings names.
My husband's Gr-Grandfather, Frederick Gotthoff Grass died Jul 2, 1900 near Maxwell, Lincoln Co NE and is buried in Plainview Cemetery. His wife, Christiana Wilhelmina Wilhelm Grass or Grasz, died Oct 11, 1921 in Big Springs, Deuel Co, NE. She was a member of the Luthern Church. I would like to know if there might be an obituary printed for either of them and also if there is a way to get a death certificate for either? Thanks!

ROTH
Tue Oct 7 17:22:07 1997
I am hoping to learn the history of the ROTH and related families of Chappell. My grandfather was Nick ROTH who was married to Evadne (maiden name unknown) who is in her 90's and still resides in Chappell. I believe that we have STUTZMAN's in the family and have seen the name COHOE related to our family. I believe that the ROTH family history in Chappell goes back to Chappell's roots as I have been told that my great-great grandfather built a sod house there and had one of the first farm's in the area. I have taken it upon myself to gather the family's history. Please help me if you are able.
Jim Roth
