I am the youngest son of Joseph August Langen. I was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on 29 April 1944. There were 16 siblings, 9 girls, 7 boys. I left home at age 16 to join the Canadian Army. I was not close to my family and remain that way to this very day. However, if there is some way I could be of assistance, I would like to try. One of my older sisters still lives in Humboldt. Irma Still married Leonard Still when I was very young. I cannot remember the year. As a child, I remember stories from my dad, coming out of Monterey, Nebraska. My mother (Hedwig Hogg) passed away when I was 3 years old. You are welcome to contact me at my Email address.

Family of Joseph August Langen b. Oct. 5 1895 in Monterey

I'm looking for family of my great-grandfather, Joseph August Langen who was born in Monterey, Cuming in 1895. All the documentation I've found is from his time after he moved to Canada. None of that documentation refers to any family in Nebraska, only those born in Canada. There are no clues in the Canadian documents as to where his family comes from before settling in Nebraska either.

I found one clue in an obituary from 1903. There was an August Langen, postmaster at Monterey. August was born in Wunenberg/Wunnenberg, Westphalia, Germany in about 1860 and arrived in the US in about 1885. He married Mary Plantenberg, sister of Fred Plantenberg of Aloys. Mary and August had 5 young children, 3 boys and 2 girls. However, the obituary fails to mention the children's names.

I suspect August and Mary are Joseph August's parents but I have nothing to confirm this.

Is there anyone who can assist me in figuring this out?

Thank you for trying to help me.
I have a picture from 1917 of Lillian (Malzahn) Stoltzman and would like to get it to one of her living grandchildren.
I am hoping that it might be found in the obituary of someone in her family.

Her husband and she were separated at the time of his death on 12 Oct 1965, but he was the father of the children and may list their daughter Betty's last name.

Marvin's wife May Dee Stoltzman is still alive at 86 but if they didn't have any children, I dont' want to send it to her because it will just be lost in the shuffle when she dies.
Their sister Marjorie Ruth (Stoltzman) Schultz died 24 May 1996 in Scribner, Dodge County, NE. She had no children but again her obituary might list her sister Betty's married name.
Betty J. Stotlzman has 2 daughters for sure. Her married name is something like "Tarbut" or "Tahrbutt" but I do not know of the exact spelling.

So if you are able to find out Betty's married name she may still be alive at 85 or at least will be able to lead to her obit to her 2 daughters who are possibly Lillian's only two grandchildren.

Hi,

Has anyone gotten these for you and the one from Dodge County? In doing my own research, I came across obituaries for Melvin Meyer and Henry Malzahn in the Fremont Nebraska newspaper and the graves of some of the others in Mt Hope cemetery in West Point. I have microfilm scans from the Fremont Tribune in jpg format of the obits for Melvin Meyer and Henry Malzahn.

Some other information that may help if you still need it:

Elmer Malzahn (12/14/1911-0217/1988) shares stone with Alice G (2/4/1913-2/12/1999)

Delilah M Diers (Mother) (14 May 1905-21 Jan 1981) is buried next to Robert C Diers (Father) (22 Aug 1895-29 Oct 1967).

Henry W Malzahn (04 mar 1901-11 Jul 1987) PFC US Army WWII
Lillian Ida Stoltzman (28 Mar 1903)06 Nov 1969)
Henry and Lillian's graves are behind a double row of Petz grave covers and next to Sophia Malzahn (1875-1943) and Michael (Father, 1865-1933). There are Meyer graves nearby and Diers graves in the area across the cemetery Lane.

Melvin L Meyer (20 Jan 1927-08 Jun 1987) shares headstone with Shirley M (still living).

Minnie Rose Meyer (08 Apr 1906-17 Aug 1982) single stone but seems like one of a pair with John R Meyer (18 Apr 1900-28 Feb 1991)

Howard Heller (24 Mar 1899-21 Sep 1973)

Marvin Stoltzman - didn't see him

If you still need these obits and if obits from the Fremont Tribune (vs the West Point News) will do, I will add these names to my research list, but it is a long list.

Bill

yes this is true my great grandparents are buried in the family plot of my great great grandparents on my great grandmothers side so needless to say completely different name, took me a little while to locate them because their graves are not marked
the following is a website I used to locate some information on my family so it may be very useful to you the website is http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~necuming/
there is a ton of info from cemeteries to farmers atlas, census records, and a lot more. Hope this helps some. If you are talking to moody's law office then he must be buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, I talked to them about aq few things myself. But I will also keep my eye peeled in case I come across his name. Its possible he could be in the book the history of the elkhorn valley it has story's and information on the early pioneers in the area (the town was officially created in 1867) so I will have a look and see if I go to West Point about every other month and plan on getting there this month and when I go there I always hit the library to do more research and they have this book so will take a peek at it for you.
Enough with the book for now huh...lol, have a great one

All I know is what I have on the 1870 Census, Township 22, Cuming, and West Point Post Office. There is a gentleman in Moody's Law Office looking for some records. He did tell me, however, that the grave sites are listed by the owner's of the plots and many people some times were able to use other people's plots.

Thx for your prompt reply.

I am sorry cant say that I have seen that name in my research into my family but do you know in what area he would have been (town lived in or near, cemetery buried in) anything like that would be helpful. There are a lot of old cemeteries in Cuming county and quite a few towns and small cities so is hard to say where he may be without narrowing it down a little

hello Mary

Sorry it has taken so long to get back with you. I wasnt able to get to West Point in October as planned but made it yesterday and was able to locate roberts grave. I have a few pictures I will send you with this message or if you have issues getting them let me know and I will send them to your email ok. With the directions you gave me it only took about 5 minutes for me to locate him so was actually real easy. I also took one of the chapel from where he is buried and am sending that as well. I hope they are ok but if you would like different ones I would be able to get them but probably not until spring I am thinking by the time I can get back there snow will be on the ground ok. Take care and have a great one.

Jerry Wilde

Hello Karen

Sorry took me so long to get back with you I wasnt able to make it to West Point in O ctober as planned but did make it yesterday. I did some research and as you suspected I was not able to find anything on Louis he isnt listed as being buried in any of the local cemeteries but if he is in Mount Hope there still may be hope because I know of and have information for a lawyers office in West Poinbt who has the records for Mount Hope so if he is buried there they should be able to tell you about it. They do grave locations through the records they have pro bono, they helped me on a couple of family that had no markers.
As for Harry and Anna I was able to locate them both at the libray and the cemetery and did get pictures of their head stones so will try to attach them to this message and hopefully you will get them otherwise let me know where you would like them sent to. It was quite exciting to find them.
the Attorney information if you would like to contact them is
Moodie & Wortman
118 East Grove St., P.o. box 15
West Point, NE 68788

phone: 402-372-5436 (phone and 402- 372-5437

let me know if you get the pics ok or if you need me to resend them to an email ok.
Hi -
Am looking for info re the Frank (Frantisek) Benish family who came to the US in 1872, settled in West Point. I have them on an 1880 census still in West Point. Later they moved to Omaha. Frank was married to Christina (Hauser). Children Zela (Celia), Frank, John, Rudolph. Any info much appreciated. -- Also trying to find where they came from in Bohemia/Moravia. Maybe many Czech families in West Point came from the same area?

Thank you!
Maddie

Hello Jerry
Good to hear from you again. If you have the time and would be willing to check the book at the West Point library to see if you can find the burial locations of the DILL relatives that would be great! And pictures would be absolutely wonderful.
The relatives are: Harry V. Dill died 28 April 1941 in West Point; his wife Anna Dill died 8 May 1967 in West Point and Louis died 18 Oct 1933 (but as I mentioned before Louis Dill may be buried in the "poor section with no marker" according to one person I heard from.
So if you find out anything please let me know. You are very nice to make the offer. Karen Dill

ok sounds good, and it does help I actually had searched the cemetery for my family before I knew where they were buried so I know where you are talking.
The cemetery is on the south side of highway 30 as you come into town and the chapel sits of to the west side of it somewhat and has a circular drive around it so I have a pretty good idea on where to start at least, and thank you for the phone number. If I have any questions I will contact them

I learned that Raymond Gaisbauer is not buried there so it will be one photo for Robert Gaisbauer.

I called the church for the burial location (402-372-2188). They said go to the old cemetery where there is a chapel. Go around the chapel to the south end. The site should be in the southeast corner.

Hope this helps.

I am happy you were able to obtain the information you have, even obits are hard to come by at times.
As for Mount Hope cemetery I know it well, it is the resting place for many of my family from that area. My Great Aunt's name is Emilie Wilde she married Richard Dill who also went by the name of Pat from what I understand he may be buried in a cemetery in Fremont,NE.
There are possibly a couple of ways that the information of exactly where they are buried can be found out. There is an attorney's office in West Point that does grave locating pro bono they have a map of the cemetery, that is how I found some of my family. I will dig the information for them out and get you a phone number, one of the attorney's name is Moody.
Another way is the library there in West Point has a great genealogy section where there is a book that was written in the 1980's that lists anyone that had a head stone and where they are located, they to have a map of Mount Hope that was created in 1957. If you like I can see if I can find anything out from the book there at the library and see if I can find them and get a couple of pictures
There are graves in Mount Hope that are not marked so hopefully they are. Let me know what you would like and we can go from there.
Have a great weekend
