I am looking for information on George Jacob Oberle. I first find him in the 1880 Cass County census aged 40 years, born in Germany. He has a wife named Mary aged 33, born in Germany. They have children named George aged 6, Carle aged 5, and Fred aged aged, all children born in Nebraska. Also in the household is a William Stine aged 14, born in Germany who is listed as nephew of George. George, his wife, and all Children listed in this census appear to be buried in the Eagle Cemetery. George Sr. died in 1917 and Mary died in 1928. I am interesting in learning if George Sr. was living in the United States at the time of the civil war, and if so what unit her served in if any. I am trying to locate a 4th Corporal George J. Oberle who enlisted in a Georgia unit and who lived in Augusta Georgia at the time of the war, a member of his company wrote that he was a "painter" and that he was born in Germany. I am looking to prove or disprove that this man is the Georgia soldier I am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
