I do not have any information on their children, or if they had any. The only information I have is that they moved "west", and the earthquake mention would lead one to believe it might have been to the SF area. This scant bit of information was passed down to me by my late mother, who probably heard it from her parents (the Coufal line).

Marianna was the oldest of 11 children.

I have not found them in any Nebr. censuses or ship passenger llists. The rest of the Coufal family immigrated to Nebr. in the early 1870's.

Hello Wayne. The Ott family is a hard one to crack. I, too, cannot find any data. I am guessing Marianna married back in the old country before imm. to USA. I do find her fathers immigration in 1878 on the "Mosel". Frank's obit would probably help if one could be located.
For Jacob and Catherine Vosicky, believe they are still living on the 1885 in Linwood precinct. If you have ancestry.com. look closely at image 1527, "Jacob and Catherine Vachetaky" Similar spelling of surname as in the 1880 report. The 85 was either poorly enumerated or transcribed, but is full of errors, as Jacob is born Tennessee. This is an obvious attempt at a Czech surname and don't believe any Czech's were born in TN in 1813. A close look at the actual microfilm would probably be of more help. Jacob homesteaded in section 22 on Linwood pre.
Have poured over the Baca books looking for his immigration to no avail. With the Czech surnames, one is required to think 'way, way outside the box' so to speak. So many variations. If Jacob came over in 1869 as is reported in the HX of CZECH's, page 197, then I can not also find him in Butler county on the 1870 report.

Hi Jean. Thanks for your insights and info. I too have a number of (mis)-spellings of Vosicky. I also think Marianna was married in the old country.
It appears that you are also related to these Coufal folks?
How so? Where do you live now? I live in MN but get back to NE several times a year. Next time I will go to the NSHS library and check the microfilm on the 1885 NE census. I have access to ancestry.com at the library and will check next time I am there. I have not found an obit for Frank, but have visited him in the Brainard cemetery.

Take Care,

Want to thank you both for this information. I just started working on my biological father's side of the family, and this was interesting.

What names are you researching? What areas of the US? I may have other information that could be useful.

Surnames: Benes Bartek
It looks like I'm actually currently stuck on my biological Grandmother, Marie/Mary (Bartek) Benes. Her husband, Philip Benes of Valparasio NE (1924-1997) looks to have lived in the same house the entire time they were married, until her death. Her children (my biological father) were born in the 1950's (Alois, Philip, Anthony, Eugene, Kathleen, Marianne Benes), but looking at Anthony's wedding announcement in 1975, she had already died. I cannot find out anything about her online (death, or any other mention of here on than in Anthony's announcement). Currently, contacting the Benes family is not an option, but may come to that eventually. She was originally a Bartek, and thru census, I have a lot of her other family members info, just NOTHING on her. Is there more info that I can try to locate for you? I do have an anniversary book somewhere in storage on the Philip/Bernice (second wife) Benes family, but I don't recall it mentioning anything on Mary/Marie either....I will continue to look for that book as well. Thanks for any help you may be able to help me with.

Is this the Benes family in the farm implement business?

Have you tried the Nebraska Vital Statistics for birth & death records? Also church records. Neither are available online.
