The 1885 state census for Dodge Co., [found on gen web site for Dodge co. NE] list Schuman, Rudolph, age 36, born IN, Dorothy, age 35, born BR, August, age 13. Born NE, AN?? [Andrew] age 13, John, age 2, Werry? age 3, [may be Merry], Mitlda, age 1, all in Cumin Twp. Can not find any trace of Rudolph, or August in 1900 etc. Did find a Matilda Sherman, age 26, Head, Single, with sisters, Alma, age 23, Gesina, age 17 and boarder, Rudolph Lutthans, age 9, on the 1910 cenus Cumin Twp., Dodge Co., NE This would be right age for the Matilda listed in 1885. There is a Henry Schurman buried in the Ainsworth Cemetery, but no dates or age listed on index. Stone must not be able to be read. I did find August and sister Anna [children of Rudolph] burried in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Hooper, Dodge County, Nebraska but no burial for Rudolph or Dorothy. Maybe someone from that county can be of help.

I am searching for John Schurman/Schurmann born about 1878 in Nebraska, possible son of RH Schurman/Schurmann. John was in Brown Co., Nebraska in 1900. He's listed as a servant with with William D. McCord. Also in Brown Co., NE in 1900 is Andrew Schurman/Schurmann (in Ainsworth). I believe John and Andrew are brothers.

April 1902 - John Schurmann and Marie Lutthans are married in Dodge Co., NEB.

1910 - John H. Schuman and wife Marie H. are living in Brown Co., NE (Ainsworth). Andrew also in Ainsworth. I believe John H. and Andrew are brothers, and possibly sons of RH Schurman (Cuming, Dodge Co., NE).

1920 - I can't find John. I may have found Marie in Great Falls, Montana as a nurse. Andrew still in Ainsworth, NEB

1930 - I can't find John or Marie. Andrew still in Ainsworth, NEB

1934 - Marie died in December and is buried in Sultan Cemetery in Snohomish Co., WA. Her older sister (Magdalena Schirman's family is in Snohomish Co.) Marie Lutthans is a twin of Matthias Emil Lutthans, born Nov. 1871 in Germany.

Any help with John Schurman/Schurmann????

I can't believe a year has come and gone since you last posted. Thanks to you I now know who my Dads' grandparents were on his Mothers' side of the family. If you would be so kind as to share with me what other information you have I would be so greatful. My email address is: heavenlyclouds99@yahoo.com. I need to start searching again to see whatever I can find. I do see that this message board has been taken over by Ancestry.com in the last year. How does that happen? Please, I do hope you will get in touch with me. Thank you,

Diane Cloud
I believe that it was Burdell Brinckerhoff that married Pearl. They would be my grandparents. I am looking for a daughter of Burdell (from his second marriage), her name is Ranaie - married and now has the last name of Richardson. Burdell and Pearl were divorced shortly after my dad was born and he never had any contact with him. If anyone has any info on Ranaie, I would love to be in contact with her...my long lost Aunt.
thank you,
Brandy Benefiel

Oh my, you are an angel. I looked everywhere for them in 1930, but only found them together up until the 1925 Arkansas City, Cowley, Kansas census. I had found a newspaper article in The Lincoln Daily Star, Lincoln, Neb. dated Feb. 27, 1917 when H. C. Yarwood accepted the position as manager of the carpet and furniture store of Sweser and Co. He succeeded L. C. Hurford who had handed in his resignation a few weeks before. Mr. Hurford had been connected with Mr. Sweser 23 years. At the end it showed David City Enterprise.

I don't know if Mary Faith would be buried there or not.
Her death certificate showed she died 3 Sept 1979 in the Homestead Nursing Home and under Burial it showed Removal, Sept 3, 1979, then Anatomical Board (U.N.) to Omaha, Neb., Funeral Home Roper and Sons, Inc., Lincoln, Neb. I don't know what Anatomical Board means unless she donated her body to science. I haven't seen this before.

Thank you so very much. This answers my question about Louis Hurford. Mary Faith (Feldkirchner) Hurford is on my Hetler family tree from Lee Co., IL.

Elsie

The marriage took place in Beatrice, Gage Co., Neb. at the Lutheran parsonage, Rev. A. M. Aetzel officiating. A wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mr. E. Feldkirchner. "The couple will reside at David City where the groom is engaged in the furniture business".
(The Lincoln Daily Star, Lincoln, Nebraska Jan. 7, 1918, pg. 8.)
I was unable to locate Mary or Louis/Louie, L.
1885 census lookup for Bassett precinct, Brown county?

Would anyone there in Brown County have microfilm of the original 1885 census images they could do a look up? I've found a name in the Ancestry 1885 Nebraska index, but i think the name is so terribly misspelled, that its possible its my missing person.

I'm looking for an Ava Speck, born around 1867 in Iowa
The index shows an Eva Sproul, born 1868 in Iowa

The Ancestry index shows the record as: M352_03, Page 9
I'm hoping someone could look at the original entry, and see if by any chance they can make out the "Eva Sproul" as actually being an "Ava Speck" (or rule it out), and if so, what family members she may have been living with (Ava was an orphan from Iowa and may have lived in various homes, before later marrying in Saunders, Nebraska)

Thank you for any help,
Jean
jcharb8@msn.com

Brown County Nebraska with her son Harrison ( Harry) H. Heath and her daughter in-law Martha(Morgan) Heath. I am wanting to know if anyone might know where these family members might be buried. Or if there is a cemetery site in Brown county that I can look for these people. Harry Heath was b. January 1867 in Littlefalls Monroe County Wisconsin He was born Harrison H. Heath to Abraham and Julia Morse Heath. His wife was Martha (Morgan) Heath b. February 1878 in Iowa. I would like to also know if anyone might know who Martha's parents might be.
I'm still waiting for a death certificate from (Galesburg)Illinois. I found an obit for a Della A. McLane who died Oct. 20 1966. It listed brother Walter Sawyer of Ashland, Neb.;2 daughters Mildred Parsons, and Mrs. Frank Smith. I was hoping the death certificate would show if I had the right one. The same daughters are listed on the obit I have on John Sexton from Nebraska. On one of the census it showed Della and her daughters living with Robert McLane. That's how I found this obit. I was hoping to find a marriage license. Thanks for your help. I'll look into the info you gave me.

I know I didn't but I am terribly confused about that! It looks as if he bought a bunch of land on speculation. He bought the following-all in Twp 29 N of Range 23, W of 6th PM :
S 1/2 of NW 1/4 Section 2
SW 1/4 Section 3
SE 1/4 Section 3
SE 1/4 of SE 1/4 Section 4
NE 1/4 of NE 1/4 Section 9
N 1/2 of NW 1/4 Section 10
NE 1/4 Section 11
All this was on one deed of purchase in 1903 and the same on a deed of sale in 1912
.
So I really don't know where they lived but in the 1910 US Census they were listed in Johnstown Pct.

Can you figure anything out from the above??
Ann

My husband's grandparents were in Brown County for about 8 years-1903-1911.They were listed in Johnstown Precinct at the time of the 1910 US Census. They bought land in Township Twenty-Nine (29), North of Range Twenty-Three (23), West of the 6th Principal Meridian containing six hundred forty one and 32nd acres in 1903. Family records say the youngest son was born in Ainsworth in 1908. My question is--did they live nearer Johnstown or Ainsworth??? There is also the cemetery lists for Brown Co. on the web site and has Wm and Bessie burried in Ainsworth Cemetery. What else are you looking for? Wm Strong first appears in the 1910 census, as single, also on same page is listed a Sherman Strong, wife Ann E. Only Wm and Fred on 1920 census.
I have a copy of a platt map of Brown Co. If you sent me your e-mail address, I can send you copies showing where the land was on the sections you stated. I also have a 1912 map, but land is listed under different names. They would have been the closest to Johnstown, but Ainsworth was the county seat. My families lived north around what is now the Ainsworth Airport since the 1880's. If I can be of any more help, let me know.
Kathy Burchell
