I sent an email thru ancestry.com
Since you are in California would you be able to search for a step-son of my ggrandmother Rosa Thoendel Reinke.
In 1913 my g-aunt received a letter from Frank Thoendel stating that his wife and child(ren) where killed during the earthquake. At that time he was in a hospital recovering from a 'broken back' while working with a circus.
He was never heard from again. I have posted this info on several CA websites but with no replies.
Any suggestions where I could research further?
(The only Frank/Franz Thoendel listed is a 2nd/3rd cousin in Nebraska - nothing reguarding a Frank in California - various spellings Thondel/Thandel.
Thanks for you time, Bill Thoendel

I am related to the Paul family through the Rawlings. I have a picture of Rawlings Paul and Lorena and 4 children.
It looks like the children are all almost grown. I suspect it was taken in the early 1950's. Their children are Donald, Gladys, Doris and Jesse. I'd love to send this roughly 5x7 photo to someone who is related to the family. I'm keeping a scanned copy as well.

From "The History of Antelope Co", pub 1986, p654, under family "Ruroede, Ferdinand Johann" is this paragraph: Esther's parents were Emil Lieswald (who was born in Germany on Sept 17, 1870, and died Mar 30, 1949) and Henrietta Schwanke Lieswald (who was born at Scribner on May 25, 1874, and died Jan 6, 1952). Children in the family were Edward (who died in infancy). Emil Jr., Alice Metschke, Gilbert, Esther and Leslie. All are deceased. Esther was born Sept 6, 1905, and went to be with her Lord on Jun 27, 1982.
There was nothing in the book regarding the Matthews family. If you know of Mary Ellen's siblings, I could see if anything helpful is listed for them.

Thank you. I have previously received a date of Jan. 31, 1918. I have not verified that date yet. No I had not checked with the state of Nebraska for a death certificate yet because I wanted a more specific date. Now that I have that date, I have been meaning to send for a death cert.
I hope you didn't go to too much trouble as I think you checked some of the same things I had already checked.
Thanks again.

I did check at our local library yesterday, where they keep a copy of the burial dates. Jesse Fields is listed among the interrments but there were no dates at all for him. I also checked on the military/Civil War sites and he is listed only as serving but no DOD there also. I just talked to the librarian and she said the micro-films from 1914-1920 were burned at some time. Have you tried the State Dept. of Nebraska to see if they have a copy of the death. Sorry I can't help you any further.

I think we are talking about two different Jesse Fields. The one I am speaking of is buried in the Tilden/IOOF Cemetery in Tilden, NE. I have photographed his gravestone along with his wife and a couple of his children who are there. It did not have a death date and that's why I asked for help. This Jesse Fields married Caroline Cealey/Mogg and had several daughters. My Jesse Fields immigrated with his wife Caroline from England, which is very different from what you just said. Thanks for checking.

Searching death date for Jesse Fields of Tilden

I am searching for the death date of Jessie Fields of Tilden. He was born about 1831 in England, and served in the Civil War. I believe he died between 1914-1920, and am about ready to write for a death cert. However I like to have a better date so it's not so much for them to search.
He is buried in the Tilden cemetery, but his gravestone does not have dates on it. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. I have tried everything else I can think of.
Thanks. Beth Sparrow

I am not sure about the Poland part. Oldenburg is in northern Germany and is now part of the state of "Lower Saxony". It is close to Holland. My gg grandfather was born in 1838 (Bernard Heinrich Macke). His father Johann Bernard Macke was born 8 Sept 1815. His mother was Catharina Maria Heidkamp. There was a Maria Agnes Deters baptized the same day (November 11, 1838) that had a Anna Maria Macke as a sponsor.
At Bernard H. Macke's marriage to Anna Maria Bauemer on May 8, 1867, a Bernard Macke acted as a witness. Bernard Macke also acted as a witness on the same day to the marriage of Adelmeyer,Johann Friedrich and Maria Agnes Kemhues. This information was taken from records from St. Victor's Catholic Church.
K

Thank you for the prompt reply. I don't have the Macke's back to Germany, ie, I don't know who my ancestor Joseph Macke's parents were. I think that if we get back far enough we shall find that all of them from Oldenburg province were kin. My brother once told me that the Mackes were from the part of Germany that was once Poland. I have no idea who told him that.

Let me know if you ever get your family back to the 183os in Germany. Mary Walker

My Macke relatives did not come to the United States until 1892. Apparently, my great-grandmother, Mary Agnes Macke, came first to marry. Then, her sister, Anna, came to marry Mary Agnes' brother-in-law. They lived in Carroll County, Iowa.
In the early 1920s, Joseph Schiltmeyer (my great-grandmother's sister's children) and his sister came to America. They went to Boone County, Nebraska, (directly south of Antelope County). Apparently, a Macke cousin (Bernard & Sophia Macke)was supposed to meet them. Instead, the station master called my great-grandmother (she was living in Boone County by then) ,and she sent her sons to get her niece and nephew.
I have been unable to tie my Mackes with the right group of German Mackes. My German Mackes lived in Rueschendorf, Oldenburg, Germany. and were baptized at St. Victor's Catholic Church. The parents of my great-grandmother and her sisters were: Bernard Heinrich Macke & Maria Anna Bauemer (sp?).
I don't know if I can help you. As you stated some of the names especially Bernard Heinrich Macke get to be a bit confusing.
K

Death of Earl David MURRAY, r. Royal, Antelope; Burial? Obituary?

Earl David MURRAY moved to Royal in 1912 after his marriage in 1902 to Ada BURKS. The couple had 8 children including Marian E., Eva B., Earl David Jr., Leo F., Gladys H. and Glen E. Earl David MURRAY is my grand uncle, born 13 Oct 1879 in Mapleton, Monona, Iowa. Ada was born in Van Zandt Co., Texas on 4 Jan 1883. They led an active life until Earl's untimely death in 1919. Ada was left with some very young children to raise alone but Eva B. was by now 15. The family continued in Royal and Ada expired on 22 Dec 1971 and is buried at the Royal Cemetery. I would hazard that Earl David MURRAY is buried with her if that cemetery was in place in 1919. I am seeking his place of burial and his death date. Nor do I know why he died. There were a number of other Murray families here, two married to Frank & Lawrence RODGERS. I hope someone recognizes this family and knows of Earl's death.

Need obit, estate record, photo burial, or other data, for Alexander Belmer. Tuscola County, Michign, is documenting all of its Civil War veterans and early residents of the county.

Cass City Chronicle, Tuscola County, Michigan, date 17 Jan 1919, has a death notice.

Alex Belmer, a former resident of Caro, died at Hot Springs, Dakota, at the age of 95. Mr. Belmer was one of Caro's earliest settlers and is credited with having helped clear the land upon which Caro is now located. He was a Civil War veteran, and well known throughout Tuscola County, among the older residents. He had been disabled for a period of 35 years.

A census search shows the Belmer family here in Tuscola County, Michigan, until the 1870 census where they are in the unorganized county west of Madison, Nebraska, in 1880 they are in Center Precint, Antelope County, in 1900 and 1910 in Nehigh, Antelope County, Nebraska.

Online information gives death information, Alexander Belmer, b. 26 Nov 1823, d. 24 Dec 1918, burial in Laurel Hill cemetery. Apparently both of his wives, Sarah and Sarah, are also buried there.

We would very much appreciate any historical information on this Belmer family.

trublehall@centurytel.net
mailing address, 1405 Hunt Rd, Mayville, Michigan 48744
Well hello there. It's possible on these relatives, but my evidence so far doesn't seem to support any of my Roth family being associated with Russia. I don't recognize any of the Roth family names you have listed either. So while we may share the Roth surname and So Dakota, so far they don't seem connected. If you wish to share more detail to compare, feel free to email me directly at msp1954@hotmail.com. Thanks for the reply!
I too am researching the Roth family in South Dakota. My great grandfather was Henry (Heinrich) Roth, from the Odessa Region in Russia, came to the U.S. with his mother (Katharina nee Tornow) and step-father, Joseph Ade, and brothers, John, Chris, Karl (a.k.a. Charley), Friedrich, and sisters Kate (George Rauch), Dora (Edward Martin) and Dora's twin, Karoline in 1874. John Roth, I know, had 3 daughters (Rosie Batchelder-Hochmuht, Christina Kindopp and Katharina Roth) and 2 sons (Jacob and Christ, who married sisters); Chris had a daughter Helen Wood and Karl had 2 sons, Fred and Theodor. Henry's children are Annie Niehoff-Steifel, Otto, Yetta Boldenow, Emma Riedemann, Helen, Oscar, Bertha Kamrath, Clara Vigen, Minnie Kamrath, Frieda Pelton, Edwin and Edmund. If anyone is researching these Roth's (lived mainly in Bon Homme Co., Kadoka, SD and Presho, SD areas) let me know.
