Family story: F. D. Clark was born about 1863 in Michigan. He was orphaned near Fort Benton Montana in the mid-1860s possibly in an Indian attack, taken in by Jim Hughes, a local Indian scout/trader. Late 1870s he went to Leadville Colorado following the silver boom. He died in Pueblo Colorado in 1940. He is first located in census in 1885 in Colorado where he reported age 22, born Michigan. 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 census reports indicate that his parents might have been born in England or Scotland or Michigan.
