I'm sorry about the e-mail, it should work now.

Anyway, the map is out of print but three were recently brought into the museum and the archives are selling them. Two have been sold but there was one left as of last night. They are $10.00 and you can contact the museum at (406) 228-8692 or e-mail them at vcmuseum@nemont.net

I don't know if you have found a map by now but there is a map that was made in 1987 by the Historical Society of Valley County. The various points are on this map and also the Lismas Ferry and the Pointer place. You can contact me at timefinder9@yahoo.com if you want more information.

Can anyone confirm this information and if he has surviving family or relatives in the area?

Also looking for any info such as where he lived prior to Saint Marie, and how long he had lived there- his later in life data is lacking.

Thank you.

There were 3 original men named Sire who came to Canada.

Pierre Sirre: found in Nova Scotia in 1671

Louis Sire: records find him originally in hospital in Montreal in 1691, then in Nova Scotia, then in the census of Prince Edward Island then finally back in Bellechasse Quebec after the Acadian expulsion in 1755,

Andre Sire: 1668 who came to Quebec via labour contract who himself spelled his name Le Syre

You will have an easier time tracking the people from these 3 lines if you use the version of the name the Catholic church gave to them all:

which is Cyr

Nearly every Sirre, Sire os Syre was called Cyr by the 1800's.

(no one named Siers or Sears ever came to Canada before 1700: Sears is the evolution of the name only in the New Brunswick group during the late 1800's)

To track these people search under Cyr.

I've passed your address on to my sister. I remember your Grandma Gladys. Since she was a school teacher, she really liked kids. I remember eating fresh leaf lettuce from her garden once with sugar on it. Never heard of it before or since. After your grandpa died, she married my great uncle Ralph Hutchinson. He was my favorite great uncle. We lived in Miles City while Uncle Ralph lived in Great Falls most of the time.
I hope you and Cleo can piece your life together. Gene had several wives so not sure how many siblings you have. Don't be embarrassed by what your parents did. It wasn't your action that gave you such an interesting history.

Neil D. CAMPBELL, b. 1876 in Ontario, lived in Glasgow, Valley County, Montana from about 1925 (?) to at least 1942. His wife was Olive E. CAMPBELL, b. about 1881 and their daughter was Gwendolyn H. CAMPBELL, born about 1909 probably in Clarke Co. South Dakota. Olive E. CAMPBELL died 22-May-1940, probably in Glasgow, MT and her husband, Neil D. CAMPBELL was still living in 1942.
I would very much to find their graves, cemetery records, and obituaries. Suggestions for sources and further research will be appreciated.
Clara in NE
I'm looking for a map dated b4 Fort Peck Dam was built that lists towns on MO River such as Farenuf, Lismas (1st Point), 6th Point, etc. These towns are listed in my aunt Olive Ingalls Pointer's life story she wrote b4 she died. She was a teacher at Haxby and 3rd Point. These towns are now under water because of the dam. My grandfather homesteaded on the river bottom. Thanks in advance, Gordie
a little awkward here. i am the only child of my mother and gene. we left Oregon in the middle of the night when i was 6 years old. been in Montana for 41 years, and dont know of any brother, and he would be a half brother. always wondered if there was other family out there.
however, i do know that Leonard Almond Curtiss had a brother named Eugene Lindley Curtiss. my mom says she met him once when she was very young.
and she remembers Grandma Gladys fondly as she would visit her often.
now mom has medical probs and her memory beyond this is sketchy.
i can trace the other side of my family back to Hagen, Germany 1881.
it seems my grandfather was related to hitler but hated him so came to USA married Wilma Waggoner and settled around glendive.

thanks for any more info
it is nice to hear from people
His sister was born in Alberta Canada, is the border that close that they would travel to canada for the birth of one child.
Grandfather's name: Herbert m Bard born 1917
Parents: Mildred and otis Bard. Herbert's sister born on Edmonton, Alberta Canada.
Sister's name Edna Alberta Bard or Alberta Edna Bard. I am trying to locate location of birth to see why the family would have been in Canada. I currently live north of Edmonton, but my mother was born in Spokane Washington. I would like to know if there were other relatives in the Edmonton area that they may have been visiting.

C. Johnston, Valley County, Montana

Hi,
I am looking for the marriage of C.Johnston and Nora Carr in Montana about 1912. In 1910 he is single and in School District 17, Valley County, Montana. Also looking for the death of C. Johnston before 1920. Hoping that I have found my Charles Johnston, but C. may stand for something else. Who knows?
Thanks for any help
Peggy

Re: Victor Roberts

Hi,
This is the last article I could find in the newspaper archives that talks about Victor Roberts missing:
I am not related,
Cathee
Montana Standard
Butte, Montana
4-29-1938

GLASGOW, April 28.—<.AP>—
If Victor Roberts, 18-year-old
camp tender who disappeared
south of Glasgow in a blizzard
on March 29, is still alive, both
his mother and Valley county
officers would like to hear from
him. '
A search of the badlands
where Roberts apparently was
lost disclosed no trace of him.
His disappearance was complicated
by a report from George
W. Johnson, Havre probation
officer, that a youth named
Roberts whose description fallied
with that of the tender,
had been seen in Havre a few
days after the storm.
"We are anxious to clear up
this case, both for the sake of
local people and for Roberts'
mother, who lives In Bear
Creek, Wis.," Undersheriff
Hugh Borton said. "No one
blames Roberts for losing his
sheep in the storm. The only
wise things for him to have done
would be to look for shelter.
There are no charges against
him. Both his employer, Lou
Bretzke, and his mother hope
he will notify them if he is still
alive.
