I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Silver Bow County, Montana as his home of record.

Soldier: HENRY JOHN FOURACRES
Born:1926
Date of loss: November 30, 1950. MIA

Henry Fouracres is on the Department of Defense URGENT LIST. This means that they have recovered remains the Henry Fouracres is associated with. They need his families DNA to identify or eleminate him.

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 7 families in Montana that have not been located. There is one family from Silver Bow County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Dear Mr. Davis: I checked the Butte-Silver Bow City Directories for 1948-49 and early 50's and there is NO person or family by the name FOURACRES or the many variants, e.g. FORAKER, FOUR ACKERS, etc. Also there is NO mention of any family in MT in the 1930 fed census. If the name FOURACRES is correct, this is suggestive of Native American ancestry. I cannot do more without more specific information, e.g. exact birthdate, birthplace, parents, etc. I would certainly expect this person's service record to have more detailed info about his past than just the rather vague and inexact info that you have. I have tried to get service info on my own family members and it has been very difficult, so unless the govt. is willing to provide more detailed info, I cannot help you. Sincerely, Tony

Tony,
Thank you for your interest and response. I realize that there is not much information to work with. It is very diffucult to obtain information. A lot of Korean War records were destroyed in the St. Louis fire. Using the Freedom of Information Act takes forever and then you may not learn anything. I hope someone locally can find the family members to provide a DNA Sample.

This is all I know;
HENRY JOHN FOURACRES
Born 1926
Service # RA 10602400
2nd Inf. Division, 2nd Eng. Combat Bat.
Captured 11/30/1950 at Kunu-Ri in North Korea
Evidence he was seen alive in Camp #3 in North Korea
He gave his Home Of Record as Silver Bow County, MO.

Thanks,
Harold Davis

On Ancestry.com, I found his military record where he enlisted to fight in WWII, and his birthplace was listed in one place as Illinois, and in another, Delaware. The Delaware records indicate a Henry Foreacre living their in the late 1700s. I searched for the surname of Fouracre/Foreacre in both Illinois and Delaware without having any luck.

I have also searched using the spelling "Foreakers" and "Fourakers" but to no avail.

Kim, Hi there. I found this conversation while doing some family tree work. Have you done the DNA thing for uncle Harry? I've had a few people contact me through the Korean War project and as I am not able to supply a accurate sample I have not been able to comply.
Do you have a tree online? I'm slowly working on one. Would love to hear from you guys. Gail

hi Gail. Its good to hear from you. You have been trying to find out about uncle Harry too then, yes dad sent a dna sample off to America about 3 months ago and we were told it would take up to a year before it will be on the data base so we are not expecting any news soon. I told Dad you have been in touch and we would all love to know what you and your sisters are doing now. Dad is doing a family tree and has gone back to the 1700's. my email address is ka4acres@hotmail.com. look forward to hearing from you soon Kim
