I am researching the family of Joseph Stobie (1854) and Lucinda Anderson (1858) who married in abt 1875. They lived in Sander's co, Plains Montana. Their children were:
Margaret
Herbert W. (1889)
James Arthur (1890)
Anna Jane (1893) married Victor H. French in 1914 in Plains
Stuart (1897) married Eva Mae Alford in 1925 Thompson Falls
Victor Hugo (1897) married Ruth Aeimesseger
Most of the members of this family are buried in Plains, Montana.
Anyone have information on this family?

Horse Plains, Montana Territory, by Maurice Helterline c.1984 by author; page 113 refers to the Joseph Stobie family in a brief news item from February 2, 1912. He and his wife had moved to Sunnyside, Washington in September of 1911 but the climate there had not agreed with his wife's health. It also noted that he had purchased the ranch of Mrs. A. Cook in the Thompson River area and was expecting his wife to come back from Washington shortly.

Thank you for that information, Ann. It all helps to fill in the gaps.

I am Joe & Lucinda's great granddaughter and was named for Lucinda, but I go by Cindy. I have never heard of one of their children named Margaret, however, Victor's youngest child, Peggy's name is Margaret.
Either Herbert or James died from the flu of 1918 which he caught aboard ship returning from WW!. The other was killed by infection in an accidental gunshot wound that he received when going over a fence. Anna did, in fact, marry Victor H. French & they had 3 chlldren, Anna May, 1916-2005, Jeanne Erville, 1918-2003, & Jim, 1920-1943, I believe. He was killed in the invasion of Sicily in WW2. Stuart was a cousin--originally an Anderson, I don't know if he was legally adopted, but his name was Stobie for most of his life. He & Eva had no children. Victor & Ruth had 4 children, Victo, 1926-present, she was married to Bert VanCampen who died several years ago & she lives in Thompson Falls, MT. I'm not sure of Herb's birthdate, but he is still living, Chris was, I believe, born in 1932 & died 2003 from cancer. Peggy is a few years younger than Chris & lives with her husband, Larry McCarthy in Plains. As I understand it, Herbert & James bought the Cook family ranch, at the foot of Cook Mt. in 1910. It has been in the family since then--that's where Victor raised his family & it is still in his family.
