Re: carrier and sauter families
There is a half-page biography of Peter E. Carrier in "Grit, Guts, and Gusto--a History of Hill County", 1976, page 120. The biography was from Sander's History of Montana", 1913. The bio mentioned that Peter was the third resident of Hingham and first postmaster of the town. He erected and was proprietor of a hotel. Mr. Carrier was born on a farm in Houston County, MN, 5 Jul 1963. In 1909, he came out along the Great Northern as far as the townsite of Hingham where he bought real estate and his building was the first real improvement in the townsite. He was appointed postmaster in 1910.
In Caledonia, MN, 5 Dec 1887, Peter married Miss Ruth Simpson, daughter of Alexander Simpson. They had four children: Mrs. Estella Sauter, b. 7 Apr 1891; Elmer, b. 7 Apr 1893; Bess, b. Nov 1897, and Floyd, b. 15 Oct 1900.
The 1915 Hingham Directory:
Elmer Carrier, clerk, Hingham Commercial Company
P.E. Carrier, meat market and restaurant
Louise Sauter, nurse
I am not related.
