My gg-grandfather, Thomas Otho Adkins, died 21 May 1882 at "Barton's Bridges" ['The Avant Courier,' (Bozeman, Montana,) May 25, 188] or "Hamilton" ['Daily Helena Independent,' (Helena, Mont.,) Saturday, 27 May, 1882]
He was buried in "Bridgeville" [Avant Courier] or "about 7 miles above Bridgeville on the Jefferson River, one of the head branches of the Missouri, Gallatin Co., Montana" [Adkins Family Bible.]
...BUT as I understand, less than 5 miles above 'Bridgeville' [Three Forks] the Jefferson River changes to the Missouri River? Plus, WHY would they bury him so far "up" the river?
Would you have any suggestions?
Thanks for your time.
- Thomas Adkins
