I remember this family as a very young child. I believe that in the 1940's they moved to a private home located at Warm
Springs and that Mr. Spahl worked as a butcher for the hospital. There were 3 old homes on the main little street leading to the hospital grounds: the Spahl home, the
Richter home, and the
Rankin home (closest to the railroad tracks--and my grandparents' home). The Spahl's were good friends of my grandparents, and later on, my stepfather, Edward
Lieurance, was very good friends with the younger George W. Spahl and they kept in sporadic contact through the years.
I seem to remember that Mary Spahl married a Mr. Smith and was widowed fairly early on. I think she worked as a bookkeeper for the Duvall-Wallace
Hardware Store in Anaconda. She was a very close friend of my grandmother.
