In doing family research at the Dexter Library recently, I found articles from the Bloomfield Vindicator from Jan. 1885. This is what they say:
17 Jan 1885
"A dispatch from Cairo (IL) last Saturday to the
Globe Democrat says that a family of forty-nine
arrived there from Union Co., KY enroute to Dexter.
The head of the family is J.B. (G.B.) Southerland.
They have horses, wagons, stock, etc., with them and
will locate on a farm which has been bought."
31 January 1885
"Mr. Sutherland, who moved to this county from
Kentucky a short time ago, with the large family
of forty-nine as reported has bought a farm......."
I left out the rest of the details because they are not pertinent to my request which is this: Since I can account for only about 22 people in Green Berry Southerland's family who came at that time, do any of you have family members who perhaps joined them in this journey? Just thought others might know!
Thanks for your consideration of this request.
