TEN YEAR OLD BOY SHOT AND KILLED SUNDAY. --
John Arenz, the ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arenz, was shot and killed last Sunday while playing with some other boys. The lad lived about 30 minutes after the small rifle ball struck him.
The story has been hard to obtain exactly, but it seems the boys were playing and had shot a bird. While George Calvert, a boy about 16 years of age, was reloading the rifle, a 22 caliber, the Arenz boy went to look at the bird they had just shot. In some way the cartridge being put into the gun was exploded and the ball struck the smaller lad in the head, causing his death.
So far as we have heard the affair was purely an accident, and the boy that held the gun is heart broken over the affair, as well as his family.
Johnnie Arenz was born in this city May 18, 1910, and died Feb. 24, 1919. He was the son of Harry and Laura Arenz and leaves his parents and several brothers and sisters to mourn his sudden death. Funeral services were held Tuesday at one o'clock and burial made in the Bonne Terre cemetery. Rev. J. W. Bays of the Baptist church, and Rev. Linus Eaker of the Methodist church, were the pastors in charge of the funeral.
