JOHN A. CARNILL
John A. Carnill was born at Bonne Terre, Missouri on July 20, 1874, a son of the late Arthur Milton and Lucy Jane Carnill, and passed away on Saturday, September 4, 1943, at 12:32 a.m., aged 69 years 1 month 14 days.
Mr. Carnill was making his home in Detroit, but came to Elvins three weeks ago for a visit with his niece, Mrs. Fred Stange. He fell and ruptured a blood vein, which developed into gangrene, and he was removed to the hospital last week. He had been a farmer and had spent most of his life in St. Francois and Ste. Genevieve Counties.
He was first married to Emma House, who preceded him in death. They were the parents of ten children, all of whom survive: Lucy (Mrs. Elza) Burgess, Arthur, Raymond, Earl, John, Thomas and Maude (Mrs. Walter) Snyder, all of Detroit, Mich.; May (Mrs. Elmer) Covington of Granite City, Ill.; Gertie (Mrs. Chas.) Archambo of Farmington Route Three; and Bessie (Mrs. Herschel) Womack of St. Louis; also a niece, Geneva Carnill (Mrs. Fred) Stange of Elvins, whom he took at the age of four and reared as his own child.
He also leaves 37 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. His widow, Mrs. Emma Smith Carnill, whom he married four years ago, also survives, with other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Elvins Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. S. S. Borum, assisted by Rev. Earl Penberthy, pastor of the Chestnut Baptist Church. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Boyer Service
