I am new at this, so bear with me. Rains' second wife Eliza Ann, gave birth to Ida Belle on July 18, 1873 in Nodaway CO, MO. Ida Belle married Stephen Fudge Cogdill (SSN 507-70-2786)in 1890. They had 11 children including my grandmother Alberta Maxine, born on December 28, 1912. If you would like any further information relating to Cogdill line, feel free to e-mail me.

Can you give me any further information relating to the Rains lineage? I noticed you mentioned his mother, also in Nodaway CO. We are just starting and need all the help we can get.

Thanks!

Questions about Francis

Is his name Mari(o)n Francis Rains, or Francis Mari(a)n Rains? You had changed the initials around. I have run into both, and they're different people. One born in 1836 KY and the other born in 1847 Nodaway MO. LDS and WFT have Marion Francis Rains m. Mary Jane Roberts b.1851 with Ida Belle being born to their union in 1873.

Ida Belle Rains married Stephen Fudge Cogdill, and it just so happens that Stephens moms name was Mary Jane Green (hmmmm) what are the odds of both moms being named Mary Jane? I know Mary Jane Green is correct, I have a copy of a death certificate with her name on it. Which leads me to suspect that LDS and WFT have incorrect info on a Mary Jane Roberts. And if they can be off there, they can be off on the 1847 birth date too.

But which is it; Mari(o/a)n Francis or Francis M? Because there are both. And could you e-mail the info/sources you have. Thanks... Now I know why genealogists say to get three sources for verification.

I've sent a couple of jpegs to your e-mail. Hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,
Gifford Cogdill

I have copies of documents that list Marian Francis RAINS both as Marian Francis & Francis Marion. His enlistment papers from Nodaway Co. show "Marion F." His obituary published in the Nemaha County Herald, Auburn, NE on 20 Jun 1913 shows "F.M." RAINS. Copies of his marriage license to Eliza ROBERTS JEFFERS shows Francis M. & Eliza as "JEFFERIES"and his marriage license to Sarah J. HUDGENS shows "Francis M. RAYNES". Various census reports also show both. I agree it keeps one confused when different spellings are used but all we have to go on are the documents themselves. I have copies and photos I will gladly share with anyone researching these surnames. Bev

Do you have documentation on Z.B. Roberts and Eliza Cooley? I have a death certificate for Samuel Cooster Roberts, b. 1854 in Atchison County, Missouri, which asserts that he was born to Zeba Roberts and Eliza Cooley

Eliza Ann Roberts Rains

I am trying to identfy two women in a picture I have of my 2x great grandfather Samuel Cooster Roberts. I believe they might be his two older sisters Eliza Ann and Emma Roberts. I think the picture was taken before Samuel moved his family to Salt Lake City. Is there anyone with a picture of Eliza that would be willing to share or compare the photo I have to theirs to confirm my theory as to their identity.
Thank you
Rick Rose
