Hi Chris..I am trying to get some family history for my grandchildren..waited until I retired to follow the trail. My mother is Leona Schluss..her mother was Louise or Maria Louise Walkenbach daughter of Catherine. Louise was married to Wassenburg which produced three children Emma, Anne and Madeline..Anne was married to Bill Fricke and I guess stayed in Hermann the others in that branch headed west to California and stayed here.My grandmother Louise Walkenbach-Wassenburg then married Theodore Schluss and that union produced my mom. She was 14 years old when they left there.. I was told my grandmother had a boarding house in Hermann and made wine for the catholic fathers. My mother was a great source of family history and I would love to talk with other family members to exchange information. DO you life in Hermann and has the Walkenbach branch ever had a family re-union? Chris I have an aol address if you would e-mail for further data I would really appreciate it. A few of the names you mentioned sounded familiar.... Walkenbach, Wassenburg and Schluss. Some married into our family. I talked to my mother who knows that Theodore Schluss married an Anna Lauer, March 14, 1887. She died Feb. 2, 1897 in childbirth (noted in baptismal record).
Theodore married again to Leona Wassenburg and the family did go to California. Theodore and Anna had four descendants, Steve, Hermann, Ben, and (Rosa?) Mary Schluss. Steve also went to California. Have more info on Schluss and Lauer descendants. Anna Lauer was my great aunt.

Hello. My mother (Dolores Edna Keller Bolm) asked me at the ripe old age of 84 to see what I could find on the internet about her family. To my surprise there you are. We are very distant cousins. Her Mother was Catherine Walkenbach, the sister to Louis. Her uncles are Chris, Joseph, Albert and William. Her grandmother had 14 children but only 7 survived. From everything that I have read it really does sound as if we are talking about the same people. There used to a butcher shop in St. Louis, MO called the Walkenbach Chop'N'Block off of Chippewa Street.
