Hello- I have moved my abstracts of civil marriages in Moniteau County, 1882-1956, to a new site. The new URL is http://brettsrecords.com/moniteaumar.html . You will also find links on this site to new pages featuring abstracts of marriage records from Annunciation Catholic Church in California, Assumption Catholic Church in Cedron, and St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Tipton. I hope these records prove useful. - Brett Clifford
Re: Help with cemetery info ULEY (LANGLEY) HAYNES

The Langleys buried in the Langley cemetery are my family. I'm not aware of Uley Langley Haynes, but my Langley connection is through marriage, so I haven't researched them as extensively as my direct lines.

****There are errors in the genealogical information provided in the links on the page with the pictures of the Langley Cemetery and the two cabins. Who could I contact to correct this information?****

For the Uley Haynes researcher, I can provide the following Langley information from the Moniteau probate records. (This group uses the name Moses and Wiley through several generations, and it can be quite confusing.)

Moses Langley (document dated 1846): "....Thomas Langley being duly sworn by me.....says that to the best of his knowledge and belief the names of the heirs of Moses Langley deceased are Joseph Langley of the State of North Carolina, Mary Brandon of the State of Georgia, M. Wiley Langley who resides in the State of Missouri...."

Wiley Langley (document dated 1854): "....to the best of my knowledge and belief the names of the heirs of said Deceased are Sarah Langley, Widow, who resides in Moniteau Co. Mo, Polly Collet who resides in Benton County State of Arkansas, and two minor heirs of Thomas Langley dec'd whose names are unknown to me who I believe reside in Carroll County, Mo. and Sarah Brown, Moses Langley, and Elizabeth Ann Langley all of whom reside in Moniteau County, Mo...."

Thomas Langley (document dated 1857): "...the heirs of said Deceased are Margaret Langley, Margaret Jane Langley and John Wiley Langley who reside in the County of Moniteau..."

In 1867, the above John Wiley Langley petitioned the probate court in Livingston County, Mo as follows: "John W. Langley, a minor over the age of fourteen years presents a petition for the appointment of a Guardian & Curator, and makes choice of William H. Vincent. It is therefore ordered that the said William H. Vincent be and he is hereby appointed Guardian and Curator of the person and estate of the said John W. Langley minor."

Nancy Jane Langley, buried in the Langley Cemetery, was the daugther of Moses and Mary (Polly) Hightower Langley. She never married and her will provided a stipend to maintain the Langley cemetery.

This is all the information I have on the Moniteau Langleys. Hopefully, there will something here that will help.

Candy Cox
Of the 223 people listed with pre-1800 birthdates or the 19 with 1850 death dates, I do not find anyone coming close to the person referenced.

Do you know spouse, children, etc.? of this person. Perhaps could find where they are buried & get some indication where Uley is buried.

I have no idea if they would be related, but there is an old Langley cemetery that can be viewed here: http://www.moniteau.net/cemetery/langley/langley.htm Having been the one who verified the transcriptions & took the pictures, there is a very real possibility there are unmarked graves around/near this cemetery but due to only a few graves inside the wrought iron fence & evidence of cattle being in the area for a long time, no evidence of further burials is obvious.

All the known Moniteau Co. burials are listed here: http://www.moniteau.net/moniteaucemetery.htm

There is a search box to search the whole site or just cemeteries.

I have no information on a William Reed. This may be a different family line from mine. I need more information to be sure.

My Reed family came to Cole Co., MO, about 1820. This was Samuel T. Reed (c 1794 to c 1865), father, who came from KY; where in KY I don't know. He married Frances Patterson in 1825 in Cole Co. He may have been married before, heresay.
My ancestor is his son Samuel T. Reed (1836-1914) in Moniteau Co., MO.

If you are interested in these families I do have more information and will be happy to share.

I hope this helps as the Reeds are a difficult family to find and sort out because there are other Reed families in the area.

Virginia
jerrytuft@sbcglobal.net
San Jose, CA

Hello, Judy,
I would love to be in touch with Connie Baepler. Is she Connie Henderson, the mother of John, Mark, and Laura? I have attached three photos that might be of interest to her and you. They are not the best photos, but I will take better ones of these documents when I bring my good camera to Valparaiso.

I also have a photo of Hugo Baepler, known as "Hux," in the Baepler family. He owned drugstores.

The photo of Andrew Baepler that I attached is the brother of Elizabeth who married Gustave Scholle.

My father told me today that he would be very interested in corresponding to anyone regarding the Scholle family and that years ago, he had sent a few letters to a member of that family, but had not received a reply.

I sent your question to my father about the arrival port and date and the marriage in New York. I would guess that he has the answers. If recall correctly, I think he once told me that the Baeplers arrived in Baltimore from Bremen, and it was shortly before the Civil War. I will try to get the exact information for Connie.

Sincerely,
Danielle Baepler Burrus

You are on target with what I have, too! I think there was also a baby, Wilhelmine Magdeline Elisabeth (18 Jan 1879 - 14 July 1879).

It seems your father has carried on the theological tradition.

Can I see what your records might have on the earlier Baepler's, perhaps their arrival port and date? Connie Baepler, my friend in Jefferson City, is trying to compile the earlier years of the family for her husband's side.

Could one of the brothers have married in New York?

Thanks for all your help.
Judy Wittenberger

Hello,
According to my records, Elizabeth (Baepler) and Gustave Scholle had six children: Henry, Clare, Gustave, Elizabeth, William, Ada (Ida?). I will check my records further for more information and get back with you.

My father has a wealth of family history, including letters, documents and photos. I believe that many of the photos have unidentified family members in them, so I can ask him to show me ones that may be from this part of the Baepler family. I will be able to scan them and email them to you and perhaps you can help with identification.

I will be seeing my father this weekend since my husband and I will attend the Valparaiso University Homecoming in Valparaiso, Indiana. My father, Richard Baepler, is now retired from the university where he taught theology, founded the Christ College honors college and eventually became vice president for academic affairs. He still participates in many ways with the university and has written several books on VU history. I do believe that he is working on one now.

Thank you for filling me in on your Baepler background. My father will be very interested and we will add your family to the tree that I've established on ancestry.com.

Sincerely,
Danielle Baepler Burrus
Yes, one and the same. The early Scholle family moved from Moniteau to Concordia area.

We have that Christian Gustav Scholle (born 05 April 1848 in Prussia, d 07 Nov. 1929 in Boonville (Cooper County) He married 23 May 1871 in Moniteau County Miss Elisabeth Baepler (born 14 July 1852 in Baltimore MD) died 31 Oct 1914 in Sweet Springs, Saline Co. MO.

I have more on the Scholle family, but am wondering if you have more on her Baepler brothers/sisters lines?

Just FYI - a sister of Gus Scholle was my great-great grandmother Elnora Louise Scholle who married John Christian KUHN.

Judy Kuhn Wittenberger

Mabel Ester Murrell born Oct.15 1845 in New York. Died Nov.3 1921 in Moniteau Co. Mo. Parents names listed on death certificate are John Willis & Elizabeth Sterling. You can look at the death certificate from this web site: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives I found a Mable Willis on the 1850 New York Herkimer Co. census & 1860 Moniteau Co. Mo. census. If you have any problems viewing these records let me know & I'll send you the info on them. Hope this helps in your search. Mary

I would like to know more also. The hallford's of moniteau county (jesse) was my husbands great great grandfather. His son Francis M. moved to St. Clair county, speedwell township where he lived and died the remainder of his life after he went to california for the gold rush then fought in the civil war and was captured and held prisoner at rock island prison in illinois. my husband's grandfather, william jess hallford lived his entire life in st clair county missouri as did his father sammie e hallford and now my husband, Dennis. Are you related? I think one of francis' brothers went to henry county.

my email address is hallforddarlene@hotmail.com. looking forward to it. it sounds like your grandfather, samuel and my husbands great grandfather, francis were probably brothers. Frances had a son named James Samuel and then Francis' son (William) Jess, named his son (my husband's father)Samuel also. If we would have had a son instead of daughters we were going to name him Samuel also. Francis, his wife Rhoda and his son James Samuel Hallford I have posted on findagrave.com. They are all buried in Pleasant Grove cemetary in St. Clair County Missouri. Also his daughter Leota Landreth.

The message regarding the ALLEN surname caught my attention, for I have been seeking any relationship or knowledge of Barbara Ann ALLEN, b. in Cole County, MO, 16 Jun 1823. She was married in Cole County, 30 Dec 1841, to Lacy MCCLANAHAN. Her descendants are known to me, but her ancestry remains a mystery. Any information would be welcome!

Pat

I am just now starting to do research on the Allen's in Cole County, Missouri. In 1845 Moniteau County, Mo was formed out of Cole County, so you might look there. If I run across any information, I'll be sure to pass it along.

Jessica

I believe William George died early so he and Elizabeth Hanna only had the one child--William Alexander. I don't have a death date for Elizabeth, but from the census records you sent me apparently William Alexander lived with others so perhaps she died fairly early also. I am actually related to William Alexander's uncle, Rufus George.

Great. A Baepler family in Morgan County and Cole County are working on the Baepler's too. 99.9% certain it is the same one as yours based on your Concordia and Baltimore info and what I know of theirs. We have an Elisabeth Baepler (14 July 1852) who married Christian "Gustav" Scholle (b 05 April 1848 in Prussia, d 07 Nov 1929 buried in Boonville, Cooper County, MO). Unconfirmed, but believe she is buried in Sweet Springs, Saline Co., MO with death of 31 Oct 1914. Please see if this checks with any of your info. Would you care if I show them your posting?

Hello,
I forwarded your message to my father, Richard Baepler, and he replied:
"Herb Scholle, son of Gus, was my dentist, outstanding man with a clientele from Kansas City, as well."

Does this coincide with your information?

Danielle Baepler Burrus

I do not find a John Atkinson in our cemetery records. Tipton was not established until the railroad came through in 1858, 13 years after Moniteau became a county in 1845.

I do not recognize Wolf Springs as being in Moniteau County. Lupus was called Wolf's Point before being renamed.

Do you have any other information? Such as wife, marriage, children, parents, etc? What you posted is not much to go on.

Coffman Scrapbook of Newspaper Clippings

There is a new addition to the www.mogenweb/cooper website that may be of interest to Moniteau County folks also. Josephine Coffman of Wooldridge kept scrapbooks of newspaper clippings of weddings, deaths, and other general interest stories. These cover 1930 - 1990. They mostly cover the Wooldridge area, but also there are items from Lupus and Jamestown. These scrapbooks are in PDF format and I have compiled an index for ease in finding items. They have been posted to the web by Jim Thoma. There is no indication as to which newspaper the articles came from, but I assume it was probably the Boonville and California papers. Also, most are not dated.

Link to
http://www.mogenweb.org/cooper/CooperBitsBio.htm
and scroll to the bottom of the page to find them.

Mae Bruce

He was only 29 years old.

I am also looking for his wife, Drucinda's maiden name.

I cannot locate Drucinda and her children in the 1850 Census. They have moved to Kansas in 1860.

I am also looking for information to prove that Thomas J. Allen whose wife was Permilia Loving is Theodore Jr. Allen(Sr) father.
